What a great film! I liked Tony Perkins. People used to say I looked like him and I was very proud of it, when I was 16. Didn't know he was a singer too. Discovered it 50 years later. Rockybrazil1
Two movies ruined Tony Perkins; "Fear Strikes Out" and "Psycho". He played mentally ill young men in both and did very well. After these movies, it was hard to look at Perkins without seeing the crazy guy in his his eyes.
What a respect for lyrics, what a casual yet focused performance style! His singing voice is exactly like his speaking voice, and that's rare. This is not meant as a criticism, but he sings like a very talented amateur who doesn't aspire to the overblown histrionics of "real" singers. He just sings it. His pleasure in singing is obvious, too. He made several albums during his heyday which did very well, and appeared in a musical, Greenwillow. (If you already know this, sorry.)
Usually I've liked Pat Boone's version of this song, but I like Anthony Perkins' BETTER. Now it's my favorite!!!!!!!!! I didn't know he sang this beautifully!!!!!!!
I wish he had had more confidence in his voice to sing more often. I agree with the poster that said Psycho ruined his career. It really did. He should not have done that movie. He could have remained a leading man and not have the stigma of that movie.
My comment disappeared! I was TRYING to say that I found his singing very fresh and unmannered. No posturing or trying to be "good" or stylish, just pure sincerity. I loved him in Friendly Persuasion, for which he got an Oscar nomination. But Psycho really killed his career. His wife Berry was killed on 911 (in one of the planes, horribly). I think he never solved his conflict about his sexuaity. But oh what a great singing style, very direct. Just sings. Oh we miss him!
Whenever I am watching smoke or even around smoke in Cinema, I cringe- Like for instance, "Five Miles To Midnight". Perkins was an amazing actor, singer, and over all human being. If any of you love him the way I do then Daemona007's channel is the way to see a great part of him daily.

I like how the last shot is for the film Friendly Persuasion and right behind Perkin's head it mentions his starring role in Pyscho! Quakers with knives, don't shower.
I'm lost here, I've seen this film when I was little and this brought back fond memories of my dad. Gosh, I didn't know Anthony Perkins had passed away, and I always love listening to this song. I'm glad to have found this vid.
@EutuveX ..well, I live over the side of the continent in Singapore. Anthony Perkins, Pat Boone, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra ,etc ..I know them all through my dad's love for music and movies. This piece of music is special to me as it revives beautiful memories.
The Lettermen do a real nice version of this song also...

This was an absolutely lovely film. I still love to hear this song from it, and always will.
Little known fact, this was written by Richard Nixon's cousin.
Hardly pro war, a real family struggling with right and wrong.

Well, heavenly hash. This version is much more melodic than that of Charles Eugene Patrick Booone--Pat Boone to you.

Perkins was a smoker.

NO,as a child he had tuberculosis very often and his lungs did suffer a lot from that.He did only pretend to smoke for movies.
Daemona007 2 years ago 4
I heard Gary Cooper didn't like him at all. Was it because Perkins didn't smoke?
