The rich people in the south (~10%) that owned slaves were fighting for their right to own slaves, and the other Southerners involved in the war were either all riled up by the rich slave owners, or they were fooled into believing it was actually about their "freedoms."

Ever since Reconstruction there has been an effort to sanitize what really happened in the South from 1861-65, and people who fly that flag are only enabling it.

Thus the South was fighting for something else and seceded for something else too. The confederate soldiers who weren't fighting for slavery were fighting against freedom for black people. In the early 1800s, a slave owner had to pay a fee to the government in order to free his slave because the general public thought that blacks were incapable of functioning in society. The fee was to cover the cost of any damages the newly freed person caused to the community in the future. The CSA was 40% slave. If they were freed, southerners thought they'd physically destroy society

@Frances3654 Actually, it was Massachusetts that introduced slavery and did the enslaving; it was protested against by the South. You need to ask the State of Massachusetts first! It was the Northern merchants that instigated its propagation. Read "The Negro in Colonial New England" it is an eye opening book. By the 1800s, it was too late because the Federal government had their hands in the aristocracy's pocket book, read taxes.

But I think it should be banned in public places because it we allow the confederate flag to be display in publics then any flag shoul be allowed. The rich people in the south (~10%) that owned slaves were fighting for their right to own slaves, and the other Southerners involved in the war were either all riled up by the rich slave owners, or they were fooled into believing it was actually about their "freedoms."

A small percent of the south owned slaves. The Civil War was fought completely over the efforts of the KGC ( Knights of the Golden Circle) research before you post. The traditional confederate flag never flew over a slave ship. The south call the Civil War "The war of northern agression" for a good reason

Thus the South was fighting for something else and seceded for something else too. The confederate soldiers who weren't fighting for slavery were fighting against freedom for black people. In the early 1800s, a slave owner had to pay a fee to the government in order to free his slave because the general public thought that blacks were incapable of functioning in society. The fee was to cover the cost of any damages the newly freed person caused to the community in the future. The CSA was 40% slave. If they were freed, southerners thought they'd physically destroy society

@Frances3654 Actually, it was Massachusetts that introduced slavery and did the enslaving; it was protested against by the South. You need to ask the State of Massachusetts first! It was the Northern merchants that instigated its propagation. Read "The Negro in Colonial New England" it is an eye opening book. By the 1800s, it was too late because the Federal government had their hands in the aristocracy's pocket book, read taxes.

@jusitke07 With regards to the slaves, I believe the first Confederate mistake was to not free their slaves when they had many opportunities to do so, if the South did, then President Lincoln would not have had a leg to stand on to prosecute the war and we wouldn't be having this conversation.
I was asked a while back a sort similar question, and I will say this, freedom is all or nothing, you either fight for every one's or you fight for no one's.

But I think it should be banned in public places because it we allow the confederate flag to be display in publics then any flag shoul be allowed. Should we allow the French flag in Louisiana, the Spanish flag in Florida or the Mexican flag in Texas and California? Many states trace their history to other flags.

Slaves was not the issue, it has become the new issue. If it were not for the Africans selling there own people as slaves they would be still in Africa I pose there progression has been a advancement for them or at least the ones that would choose to accept it.
