  • It should be "Mein Handy" as it's a neuter noun

  • should be pronounced händy or hendy

  • We Germans call a man´s dress for dinner or for a high-society-party a " Smoking "...sounds funny for English native speakers, right?

  • Funnily enough after hearing that he will host the BAFTAs this year, I thought of the Handy video on here, and I thought, "Remember to do the German accent please, Stephen". LOL

  • This year he is going to present the BAFTAs!! Let's hope that he does it in the camp German accent!!

  • He would have made a better Bruno!

  • *Mein.

  • lol... he sounds so Austrian... that made my day... oh, by the way: do you guys really think that words like 'kindergarten', 'schadenfreude', 'blitz' and many more doesn't sound funny to us as does 'handy' to you? lool...

  • @Keytaster

this doesnt sound austrian in any way. btw: there are a lot of different german dialects but no "austrian language"

  • @zemse93 Aber eher als deutsch, keiner sagt "hAndy", die meisten machen daraus "hEndy" oder "hÄndy". Btw zurück: Ich habe nie irgendwas von einer österreichischen Sprache gesagt :-)

  • LOL i'm german and i loled so hard XDD

  • this man is GOD *_*

  • @hyperskinny :D **bows down to Stephen Fry**

  • I. am. in. love. with. this. man.

  • I could listen to him talk like that all day it would crack me up.

  • LMAO "Vhere's mein handy, oh ich habe mein handy verloren, ohh... vhere's mein.... handy?"

  • Stephen Fry total legend!

  • I really don't get why he makes fun of this. We called it that way because a cell phone is indeed something "handy". Of course we could also call it mobile phone or cell phone or germanize the words to "Mobiles Telefon" but that would be to long a word for us. Also, taking words from other languages and using them as our own always happened in the history, sometimes the words were slightly changed over the course of time.

  • @disturbedgasch lighten up, he's only joking no need to take it so seriously!

  • @disturbedgasch we simpy call them a mobile or cell if you're american

  • @disturbedgasch I'm only guessing, but maybe it's because we do have small packets of tissues that are sometimes branded as "Handy Andies". :p

  • @disturbedgasch too long a word? From the people who brought you Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz :D

  • @BremenWalle Still sounds camp whatever way you say it.

  • Haha. Geil :D

Finde selber den Ausdruck irgendwie blöd ^^

  • Handy :)

  • Do you english folks have any idea, how many english words we (germans) could make fun of? eh???? (btw: I love this video)

  • We English have some very silly sounding words! :)

  • because we took the word "handy" out of the brtiish vocabulary !!!

whats so funny about that ?

  • @shadowangelofdark There is no British vocabulary. We have quite a few different languages in Britain.

Megis y Gymraeg. Siaredir yn y wlad o Gymru (wrth gwrs) ei fod yn ymwneud â'r iaith a siaredir gan y Celtiaid ryw ddwy fil o flynyddoedd yn ôl.

  • the way he pronounces it it's clearly austrian!

they even sound camp to ME! and I'm german!

  • @Soffo1977 i guess you have never heard any austrian dialect :D

  • @Soffo1977 A Bavarian once informed me that I dropped my "Handy" whilst riding a bike down a flight of stairs; he said it very nearly like Mr. Fry.

  • hey

its not our fault that we call it Handy XD

    blame the British XD

  • haha - we do call such kindergarten.

    so do you, too?

  • LOL

"Hello and velcome to ve Bavtaz"

  • ahahaha :) its aaaace x
