I love the story so far. The music is the best part. but the set path and the battle system gets old. other than that it would be my perfect game. and that characters are actually my favorite from the rest.
I dont know what it is about final fantasy music. I love it and im a metal head its the way its composed together instead of classical its something much more beautiful, Its final fantasy. They should remake all of them from Number 7 (haven't played 7 but i really want to) 12 with the gambit system could be left out i like the modern ATB and old ATB :)
If this game wasn't so linear and if they added more fun side quests and if you could actually run around the world map... it would've been 10/10... but overall its a 8/10 for me.. excellent music, graphics, gameplay.. plot not so much.
i dont know what you pass as linear but being able to run around the world map after you complete like 70% of the game and when you get there its not much to do. that is still pretty linear to me (on xbox version u had to clear 2 of 3 discs to reach that point) and the side quest get boring after a while (go to stone, kill monster, rinse...repeat)
to me its more of a 6.5/10, good music,graphics, gamplay is as linear as the plot...and the characters left me bleh..

Hell, even 10 still felt like you were exploring and shit because you traveled an entire continent going from place to place, and it allowed you passage back to any part of the game.

It's too bad it's my least favorite Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy 13 was too linear, yet so was Final Fantasy 10. Personally, I found my favourites to be FF6, FF9, and FF12. They all had amazing stories, with developed characters, top of the line graphics, beautiful controls and gameplay, which makes them my favorite.

You had to rely on their opinions of the bad guy for the first half of the game. Even then, you had almost no screen time for the villains.
FFIX had a great story in my opinion and you generally got to see why people hated the villain. Brahne is creating weapons of war and murdering people along and is stealing Garnet's Eidolins to kill. Kuja corrupted Brahne to create more death.
FFIX's Necron was at least alluded to by Garland, but it was a bit wtf.
I think the reason there is so much hate is because people miss the older FF styles...I do to but what can you do right? I just picked this game up a couple days ago with mixed feelings, I really hated FF12, didn't get through 20% of it. FF13 is pretty decent, you gotta keep in mind like most games today they sacrifice gameplay for a lot of things especially graphics...FF13 is pretty decent as I already mentioned but I really wish they'd go back to turn based combat and world exploration.

This song is exactly the same thing as Lightning's theme, it's just more fast paced, and a lot cooler! This game really has some of the best songs that I've ever heard in a FF game.
@LegendaryFroggy 13 is currently my favorite. Too many people complain about the linear story, but every final fantasy that came before it was linear too, you just got an illusion of free choice. If anything, I think the pacing in this game was great, and 13 probably had the best character progression of any final fantasy. The battle system was by far the best too, and the musical score was great as well. All in all a great game. I'm probably going to get a lot of hate on this one though =p

@GabrielCloudniine Attacking faster than your opponent isnt a good objective to base a battle system on. Every minor enemy merely required a COM/RAV/RAV arrangement to down in seconds. Slightly tougher enemies required a switch or two to SYN/MED/SEN and bosses were just a matter of keeping your hp up whilst switching to paradigms. Honestly, I thought I spent more time looking at the ATB and Paradigm shift menu rather than the actual battle.

Square Enix fucked the whole Old School Final Fantasy theme up, actually Square Soft were the ones who created FF I - X. Some FF13 liker didnt even played the old ones and dont know, what a Final Fantasy really was. I think its just a shamed that this game is called Final Fantasy. Other name, no problem. But oh well.

@GabrielCloudniine i think the soundtrack was good, its a good game to look at but theres next to no gameplay, running down corridors and mashing the auto battle button does get boring after a while, i like the fact they tried somthing different and every ff game is linier to an extend but not this bad.

Although I lost faith in the FF series after playing through XIII, I will give it this:
It was possibly one of the BEST looking games, and had some of the BEST sounding music, but it was one of the WORST I've ever played through.
Regardless, the flawless music and breathtaking scenery left me in awe. This composition is truly a masterpiece. :3

How can I have the attention span of a goldfish? I played through the entire game, regretted my waste of 60 dollars, and have even taken the time to reply to your asinine comments. Were I truly that easily distracted, I would not have bothered with EITHER of these rather mundane tasks.

This song is exactly the same thing as Lightning's theme, it's just more fast paced, and a lot cooler! This game really has some of the best songs that I've ever heard in a FF game.

@LegendaryFroggy 13 is currently my favorite. Too many people complain about the linear story, but every final fantasy that came before it was linear too, you just got an illusion of free choice. If anything, I think the pacing in this game was great, and 13 probably had the best character progression of any final fantasy. The battle system was by far the best too, and the musical score was great as well. All in all a great game. I'm probably going to get a lot of hate on this one though =p

I dont see why people are angry with the battle system, i loved it, infact i was more into it than any other final fantasy! shit, the anticipation of working hard enough to attack faster than your opponent. now thats a real RPG!

@GabrielCloudniine Attacking faster than your opponent isnt a good objective to base a battle system on. Every minor enemy merely required a COM/RAV/RAV arrangement to down in seconds. Slightly tougher enemies required a switch or two to SYN/MED/SEN and bosses were just a matter of keeping your hp up whilst switching to paradigms. Honestly, I thought I spent more time looking at the ATB and Paradigm shift menu rather than the actual battle.
Not to say I didn't enjoy playing it mind you.

-sigh- Just like everything in this world there will always be haters no matter what, I love FF plain and simple the gamplay changes with every game so its not the same, the music is always epic. FF13 being linear or not is a personal issue you have to adjust to, not all games came be the same people get it through your heads already. If it was different youd probably call it a rip off of another game and STILL hate it. Did I mention the music is epic? Ill say it again DA MUSIK ISH EPIKZ. xD

Lets face the fact that many think, this game is shit. I'm one of those, BUT others like it much either. The music was great, the battle system and the gameplay wasnt the same. Square Enix fucked the whole Old School Final Fantasy theme up, actually Square Soft were the ones who created FF I - X. Some FF13 liker didnt even played the old ones and dont know, what a Final Fantasy really was. I think its just a shamed that this game is called Final Fantasy. Other name, no problem. But oh well.

@Yusodus i played all final fantasy 1-13 except for the online ones nd the spin offs.. i can honestly say it deserve to be called final fantasy. y? story music are what u expected on a final fantasy game.. yes the gameplay was different but i wasnt bad.. they just made it more fast paced.. people who hated this game are those who stick to old school too much nd have narrow minds.. 13 is a good game not the best but good nonetheless

@knucklesp Old school was old school. Old school was ATB and CTB. Systems, that we loved. Square Enix fucked the last ones up too much. They had new gameplay etc. Stories were awesome, the story of FF13 wasnt for many gamers. Sure, maybe we are sticking to old school too much, but same to the music nowadays. What happened to the classic animes? Worlds fucking up new things :/
