  • Gleason initially engaged Frankie Fontane out of pity. Fontane had 11 children and was broke. Gleason couldn't know how popular Fontane was to become on his show.

  • The Prairie Home Companion of its day.

  • That was so funny. I could watch it over and over. :)

  • Great comedy. Gleason's facial expressions were priceless.

  • Jackie is singing "My Gal Sal" a the start and finish of the skit.

  • Gleason is much better than Benny fuckin hill .

  • Oh! I see the name of that song further down. Thanks Bixfan.

  • Good Saturday evening memory here also. I wish someone would post the show where Crazy sang "Put On Your Easter Bonet." I remember that one cause it was Easter Sunday the next day. I always liked how this skit ended with Joe and Crazy shaking hands and Joe singing that song (was that a real song?) as the bar room doors closed and the audience applauded. It was my favorite skit of the show. We'll never see shows like this again. Very sad

  • i was a little kid when this stuff was on. I must be pathethic because i appreciate it more NOW and judge it to have been both funny and good tv. Too bad most under 40 might think it's as old as marconi!

  • @seekermike007 I would watch the whole program and be bored just to see this bit, Now I appreciate all the stuff Gleason did

  • Benny Hill as Fred Scuttle= same bit.

  • I really enjoyed watching the originals of these Shows as well as the reruns. Other Shows like I love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Dick Van Dyke, Milton Berle and so many others were real entertainment. Fabulous entertainers, the best of the best, and era long gone, but watching All in the Family and so many others are timeless. Thank you for posting!

  • TEARS IN MY EYES. NOBODY CAN REPLACE THEM

  • TEARS IN MY EYES

  • The song Gleason sings at the start and close of this sketch is a very unhibited rendition of "My Gal Sal."

  • What was the song Gleason sang to open and close this sketch?

  • Frank Fontaine must have made a big impression on my little mind because that was the first skit I ever remember from this show back in 1962. I guess because his facial expressions were so over the top.

  • This stuff is still funny as all get out.

  • They don't makem like this anymore!

  • Cannot remember the last time I heard a mention of the American Scene Magazine

This weekly skit was a real classic showing the greatness of Jack and Frank ... God I miss this time in television ... real entertainment and real talent ! god bless both Frank and Jackie ...

  • Back when television looked like television. You're right. Lots of wonderful memories from Saturday nights long ago.

  • I remember he DID sing a song every week. As you can see on this clip, Gleason is applauding at the end, after the (missing) song.

  • Where's Frank Fontaine's SONG??

  • @jimbo97 He didn't sing one every week.

  • @jimbo97 -- In the earlier seasons Frank didn't sing. That was added in a later season when Jackie heard Fontaine sing while the band was rehearsing and decided to make it part of the weekly sketch.

  • The best tv shows ever was the ones that Jackie Gleason was in.

  • I would watch the entire show just to see this skit,

  • Wonderful memories. TV's best stuff that you won't see anymore. Thanks for posting.

  • How did Jackie Gleason kept a straight face at "Paris pppppffrance" ? I keep laughing at it everytime.

  • Those were the days... Thank you for posting this. I never missed the Jackie Gleason show when I was a kid. Jackie also made great music, I have 2 of his albums and one of Frank's.

  • Thanx for bringing back some wonderful great memories here:):):):) This saturday night show as a young grade schooler always had my WHOLE family laughing in the living room together as we sat and watched it. Thanks alot for posting this. Really enjoyed it.

  • THATS where Benny Hill got that character!

  • The PC crowd would have a fit if this got on today.

  • if only i could go back to the 50's where all my favorite rock artists were were cars looked good and were girls was actully beautifull and they had those awesome diners and most of all GOOD TV SHOWS!!

  • @kallemick you and me both, guy. It's a shame them days aint never coming back. We have to hold fast to them in our hearts and can , thanx to youtube! I've wondered if i could go back, would i be satisfied to leave all the conveniences we have now. I concluded that i could, but the one thing that would be tough would be the cell phone! I would love to go back to that way of life and be a teenager in safer neighborhoods, intact social structures, eisenhower government, homes at 20k, malt shops

  • This is an example of the golden age of television comedy/variety shows. Gleason and Red Skelton and the rest were consistently funny week after week. And they did it without using blue material.

  • great great great

  • This was a take off of Duffy's Tavern. That was Jackie's favorite radio program. The creator of it had a son that created Cheers.

  • Frank Fountaine could do great voice imitations also. heard him on a Jack Benny radio program. He was brilliant.

  • Guggenheim was not "crazy" or drunk = He was special, and always will be ...

  • Dear 60'snotforsale, This comedy is not PC..I never found Mr.Fontaine's

character offensive. He was silly..he never tried to play the character over the top. Other performers..played their characters over the

    top..but he didn't.

  • Simply wounderful!! They dont make them like that anymore.

  • So was he drunk, or just crazy? Either way I love this politically incorrect comedy.

  • What can I say? THIS was REAL TELEVISION at its BEST!! The 'GREATEST' Jackie Gleanson and Frank Fontaine. I always thought it was big (no pun intended!) of Jackie to allow 'Craz' to do his weekly monologue and catch all the laughs & finish with a heart-warming song. Brings back wonderful childhood memories of many Saturday evenings and the old B&W TV.

  • Brother you're preachin' to the choir!

Every Sat night between Sea Hunt and Perry Mason on CBS!

  • @ladynfsoffice Aww Man! This show was a Saturday evening staple in our house, back in the early 1960's!

After Jackie finishes his intro's, he says "You ain't see nothin' yet!"

And Frank Fontaine's "Crazy Guggenheim"; that funny laugh is his trademark!

  • great comedy, i like it. Thankyou for sharing.

  • When People Were Not So Uptight

They Could Do An Ethnic Joke And People

    Laughed Nit Called A Lawyer

  • Back when i was a Pup !

  • Great share Dogg.. Real comedy

  • Who _knew_ that Boston Mayor Thomas "Mushmouth" Menino's entire act was swiped from Crazy Guggenheim? 8 D

  • Jackie's response to the irish psychiatrist joke was priceless.

    "DAMNIT!" hahaha

  • Only now do I see what accurate depictions Polly Lobster and Clueless Morgan does

  • brings back memories of my dad, i remember him laughing so so hard. thanks for the video. i can still hear his laughter. i also had an uncle with downs syndrome and his name was joe, he loved it when frank would say "hi ya joe". pleasant memories.

  • Still funny and clean family comedy. Thanks to Max for sending.

  • Frank Fountaine was also a great singer and was a master of doing voice imitations. I think he had 9 children. He was a funny guy and thi era is missed by many of us as insanity has found its way into society now days.

  • Funny legends of comedy!

    (((StevieMack@NightTV)))

  • 2 legends

  • frank is great as crazy g.

  • Great tv show.
