For this aplication, i liked manley reference cardioid, kinda of more cut through, very transparent and in the face sound, nice and precise botton too.
God bless you guys! This is exactly what we NEED more of! This is wonderful 2 the point & a great indicator 4 choosing microphone. I liked all the mics & Bock showed promise up 2 a Manley, but with my budget & taste 4 this album I NOW, thanks 2 this shoot out will be picking up the MXL Revelation!
Please do the HCL FAUST 2 & the Bock 241? The HCL is getting great reviews but no retailer N the US is looking at their microphones!
love it , three different perceptions of sound in three posts.... the Telefunken is the boldest , most preset, more manly than the Manley. But, I like the Bock 195...
The price difference is much more extreme than the sound differences .....
Neumann is the only one that sounds different, and I can't hear the slightest difference between the rest of mics, even in wavs. $5000 - $1200 difference, in particular.
I hear intermittent crackling noise - at first I thought it was the U47, but it does it throughout the demo. 1:28 before the mic mutes is a pretty clear example.
@philwinkle I don't hear any crackling. If you'd like to access the pristine audio from this VO session, download WAV files from the RecordingHacks website.
@philwinkle I don't hear any crackling, FWIW. You can access the pristine audio from this VO session -- the original WAV files -- from the RecordingHacks website.
@philwinkle to be fair, I can hear clearly what you are talking about. I had to turn my levels up pretty high to notice it, but it sure was there. As recordinghacks said, it's better to have a listen to the raw WAVs, youtube audio quality is just degrading as they keep making changes. On here I hardly noticed any differences, but then listening to the WAVs... oh wow!
U47 by miles ... that's what you get for 10,000 bucks.

U47 > Bock > Manleys > MXL (mxl ties the Manley Ref if you match levels).

I still prefer Telefunken. Very balanced in its high and low end. Neutral with a little brightness.

mxl is too sibilant. Manley reference imparts some low end. Telefunken best all-around. Bock 195 second.
