Jhomolhari is the name of the ancient goddess that resides in Jhomolhari. Prior to the introduction of Buddhism to Bhutan, the older religion was Bon, a shamanistic religion where nature was revered. As Buddhism took hold in Bhutan, many of the ancient gods and goddesses were converted into Buddhist deities. Traditionally Bhutanese revere these mountains and donot venture to climb up to the top.
