when I was in Detroit for the summer my godmother would drive me to my mom's dad and we would always pass by these two burned houses but I know that isen't one of them cause I was little when I first saw them I;m 12 now so maybe like 4 or 5
FYI, DFD does not (at least at this time) have ANY chainsaws. We do have K12 saws, but theose are usually overkill on a residential roof, so, up we go with axes.
I work in a city that borders Detroit. These are, by far, the best firemen in the country. When you fight real fire 3-6 times a day I'd say you know what you're doin'. And Frup13, stop being a pussy. Some guys like to actually swing an ax, so what if feo's aren't wearing "proper ppe", they are grown men that do this shit all day long. Not everything in your "ifsta essentials" is bible. It' s like a little leaguer telling Randy Johnson how to pitch.
Good to see there are still some real fireman left in this country! Detroit fights more fires then any other department in the country! Keep it up Gary and Detroit!
Talk about needing advancements in equipment. I guess the budget is to tight to provide helmets and PPE to the aerial operators. Are SCBA's and chainsaws to expensive for the roof crew to have while doing ventilation?
Some firefighters rather use the ax and pike istead... all FF on DFD are issued proper ppe different conditions dictate the use of the SCBA... Even though NFPA would love to disagree You will probably see this in a lot of old city fire departments... MY 2 cents
Some cities are all about showing up and getting the job done with what they have! Why would the aerial operator need his PPE on? His job is to stay at the rig and operate the stick. No PPE required for that. I am willing to bet that a Detroit FF would be able to open a roof at least in the same amount of time (probably quicker) than some ff from suburbia or rural wherever who has a chainsaw. This is how DFD does it, and they do it well so worry about your dept.
