I can understand the surround-sound mix, but for the CD, how many times do they need to re-issue the same album? Does the CD really sound any different than the 1997 remaster? I bought it today but can't say I can tell a difference so far in how the CD sounds. What kind of equipment do you need in order to tell the difference with the CD audio?
@jadetraveler You are right - Old products are rereleased because they produce more interest and increase sales.
For differences between remasters, however, visit the Rush forums and most will agree that that the 1997 remaster is shockingly poor. Audiophiles listen to music on high quality sound systems, carefully calibrated in a good room. With a good room, good monitors and good ears, it's possible to pick out differences between versions. It depends how you like to listen to music really.
All I know is the fact that I already have the 1997 remix of this album. I'm hands down going for the 2011 remix. Even in stereo people have been saying this album is just amazing even compared to the '97 remix (remix, remaster, same difference here.)
This sound sound like an atomic bomb in my head... Like the first time i ear this bomb 30 years ago on LP........ Thank you RUSH see you in NY this weekend!
REALLY? April 5th? That is my least favorite day at the moment! Rush is coming to my hometown on that day and I can't afford to go! But yeah, I want the album.
@Spr00seG00se Oh come on, even the CD can shred the vinyl. A blu-ray will obliterate it!! Wish the media would stop hanging on to this misnomer about vinyl being so great. It's good but it still crackles and pops - not something I want to hear in the intricacies of Moving Pictures.
is it just me, or does this sound alot better then before? Is it just because it is louder? I don't consider myself an audiophile, but if I buy this and rip it to my ipod, will it still sound better?
@superbulldog81 That's cool, I always hate when people say they "outgrew" a band. If it's good music, it's good music. RUSH has always had great music (I don't care what anyone says, they had great stuff even when they had heavy synths).
@innerchaos08 I played guitar for about 5 years or so, and a friend of mine gave me a Rush Bass book (stuff from Rush all the way to Snakes and Arrows) recently. I borrowed a bass guitar from school, and the first song I jumped on was Vital Signs. The song is so freaking fun to play!
Wow! the sound on this is so amazing.

Argh...still no reissue on vinyl? Come on guys, this is the one everyone wants! I'd take a 180 Gram 2 LP set at 45 RPM anyday over a blu-ray!

30 years ago, I was a senior in high school and had first
heard of Rush in 1980 from their Perm Waves LP. It was
Moving Pictures that really blew me and many of my
class mates away, and for the past 31 years, Rush has
been my favorite band....bar none!!!!

So glad they used Vital Signs instead of Tom Sawyer or Limelight.

@Mglosk...It's a 5.1 DVD-Audio with 3 music videos from the album. I don't even have sound on my pc and the clip made that pretty clear.
smarkwater 11 months ago
@smarkwater My parents have a nice 7.1 surround sound setup in their living room. I'll have to play it in there WHEN I get it.
