My mother got emphysema from smoking most of

her life. It contributed to her death 15 years

ago. I had to breathe her cigarette smoke for

30 years and she likely smoked while she was

pregnant with me. Guess what? I have a birth

defect in my heart and I've had respiratory

problems for several years. >:(

a combination of weight surplus and smoking can contribute to cause emphysema but not smoke alone, yr mom WAS smoking and you were smoking as a foetus, this is not a case of second hand smoke, the research on s.h. smoke showed no difference between people exposed and those unexposed,this is mostly propaganda. Smoking is not more dangerous then breathing a camp fire, you just breathe it more often, and to be sick from it, more elements have to be put together, not smoking alone, research shows.

Smoke inhalation damages your lungs (shocking, isn't it?) and being around smokers a lot can have the same impact on you it does on them. There's VERY good research on the matter.

Second hand smoke is a big lie. I am a nonsmoker, but get really ticked at the anti-smoking lobby in this country. Several underpublized studies by the World Health Organization have shown no link between second-hand smoke and health problems.
