Very gracious comments, steviepat. Like Rick Marino, Gordon Norman of Glendora, Ron Hoar of Arcadia, Larry G. Curtis of Pasadena and Ross Davis of Anaheim (to name a few) all worked dilligently to make the most of the budgets and students with which they had to work. Which band was "the best"? Gordon Norman said: "Any given band on any given Saturday! Why not YOUR'S?!". One Saturday at West Arcadia in 1969, Glendora won Sweepstakes and 1st. Place in EVERYTHING ELSE! Memorable day, that!
Very gracious comments there, steviepat. As a Glendora drum major, I watched as Gordon Norman and Rick Marino (along with Larry G. Curtis of Pasadena, Ron Hoar of Arcadia and Ross Davis of Anaheim, to name a few) worked to make the most of the students and budgets with which they had to work...And, they all produced fine bands, each with its own signature style. Which was best depended on your point of view. "Any given band on any given Saturday!" was the rule of thumb back in those days!
As a long time follower of So.Cal. high school bands, and a long ago part of the great Loara Saxon " Showband of the Western States" during Rick Marino's tenure, How nice to see Glendora bringing back the great High school band of yore. This is what it is really all about. I don't know who the director is, but please keep it up!
