  • I wouldn't use the vox and the zvex even if I had a gun pointing at my balls!

  • 1 Metal Muff

    2 Zvex

    3 Metal Zone

  • metal muff sounded the most audible.

  • metal muff winnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Boss Metal Zone win

  • Zvex is good.

  • whats best going thru blackout pickups and a peavey vypyr?

  • Recap was genius, thanks.

  • I guess this is how Toki Wartooth would look like in real life.

  • He should've used the Uber Metal.

  • Can u have the guitarist do some pinch harmonics? I wanna see more stuff like dimebag

  • Blackstar wins

  • I think the metal muff wins, BUT turn down the treble a bit. This this can make MANY metal tones, from fuzz to a round deep bass sound, to a ear stabbing high treble sound. It's a great petal. Plus it has the top boost feature. Costs 80-100 dollars.

  • 1st, The Metal Muff, 2nd, The MT-2 3rd, The Blackstar 4th, The Tone bone 5th,The Z-Vex . 6th, The Satchurator. The Marshall's gain channel will keep up with all of them.

  • Try a Keeley Modified MT2. It has a 3 pos mode switch that gives you 3 nice tones and a Mesa style gain that has tons of bass. All of the resistors in the EQ section are replaced with high quality film resistors. Even in the stock pos, it sounds clearer. He sells a new MT2 with the mods for $150. I love the saturator as well, It works with an amp that has a decent break up, makes for a liquid type distortion that is very pleasing. The Tone bone surprised me as well. great comparison.

  • Excellent review! I like how you cycled through them. My favorite is the Metal Muff for metal...It's pretty spot on for most styles and very versatile because of the EQ. It's also very quiet no need for a noise gate. If I could add one pedal to your list it would have been a Proco Rat. It a nasty metal sound unlike any...

  • erm yh i tried all these out in a store and the mt sounded nothing like that, the fricking mxr fullbore metal sounded the best as it had the best depth and sounded like the mt-2 does in this video, 2nd best was zvex because the lead tones on it are amazing but the rythm play with it was to crunchy for metal core rhythm styles, and the metal muff was alright, considering the price but too tinny for me... to conclude, the mxr (which isnt in this!!) can get an epic sound out of any amp and is best

  • @AndertonsMusic Captain i have a Vox vt 50,the metal muff is a good choice with this amp?

  • 1- MUFF

    2- boss mt

    3- box of metal

  • Metal Muff FTW

  • MUFF!!!!!!

  • ZVex box of Metal? More like box of crap.

  • All the pedals in a sequence - 6:35

  • thats my guitar :-))

  • thumbs up for the thumb up! 2:00 :D

  • MT-2 For the Win...time tested, versatile, a staple to my collection of pedals. Ya'll should do a boss Distortion shootout. especially the ML-2

  • @Bossophile You ever try running a DS-1 and SD-1 together? On the SD-1 turn the tone and the distortion all the way down and run the level all the way up. On the DS-1 keep the tone at 10 o'clock, the level about halfway and the distortion all the way up It sounds surprisingly kick ass, imo.

  • en cuanto sale.. el pedal el ''metal muff''..?

  • @spunkdark como 75 dolares

  • vox satchurator for vintage metal and the muff for metalcore

  • i have a Metal Muff and i love it, its incredible

  • Good video, but why not pinch harmonics? Or general harmonics. I know look for good pinches with my distortion.

  • hi there Capt'n

Could you start the series sound like...for under a £1000 again?

Id like to have a sound like dream theater for under a £1000

  • Blackstar sounds the most "natural."

  • lee without an anderton's shirt?! :0

  • I think Blackstar was the best

  • wooooow your distortion are very heavy ;) i like

  • @slimmetalpickn depends on what you want. I use some distortion pedals in front of my tube amp in order to get different tones and increase the number of channels. Sometimes a high gain fuzz is just the thing to have but a fuzz sound is impossible to achieve with an OD or tube distortion, so I rely on my good old way huge for some brewwtal fuzz attacks.

  • like a boss

  • There needs to be guitar commercials on T.V. like this. That was a great wall of instruments in the start of this vid. Plus the demos are good.

  • anybody notice the random hand that came in?

  • metal muff ! and I have mine in the post. can't wait OMG I'm gonna' jizz everywhere ^^

  • I like the metal muff, like how the mids were scoopy...yhe blackstar was nice, but i thought is was a lttle too vintage sounding. What i like to do is put a little gain on my amp, then put the pedal infront of it. Pushes it better in my opinion. I actually have a decent metal sound with a fulltone..more judas preisty, not so lamb of gody

  • Blackstar HT Dual win!!

  • Muff.

  • anyone agree that the satchurator would be closest to the sound in exodus's album "force of habit"?

the first pedal impressed me but later i noticed it doesn't have the high end presence of the others. i like the growl of the satchurator. i didn't like the riff he chose when using it. but anyway yeah

  • I think, that Electro Harmonix is the best ;)

  • still prefer my jcm 800 with an overdive in front of it

  • Metal muff imo

  • 1:52 thumbs up!

  • It would be nice if he actually played something else than powerchords...........

  • what was the amp again? i can't get it lol wut model?

  • @nifah93 got people are so lazy, move the fucking video back 3 seconds and listen to him again!!!!!

  • the electro harmonix is the best man. super heavy sound. and it has the sound ive been looking for :)) thanks !

  • Are u using the Marshall M50a?

  • @Koschdas202 It's a Marshall MA50C

  • which one of these would sound best with fender alnico humbucker pickups?

  • I've tried all but the Zvex. I've been using the HT Dual since it came out. It's always amazing sounding to me, and it's TOUGH! Never had an issue with it, and it plays really well with my clean boost.

  • @crow468 I hear you, the ht dual is a great pedal, even if you already have a good sounding tube amp.

  • It's the Radial or de Blackstar. Saving best for last.

  • I own a MT-2 and havnt tried any other distortion pedal, i cant decide between the MT-2 or the Metal Muff

  • I own the HT DUAL from Blackstar. It sounds absolutely GREAT! You can hear a TRUE warm tube amp sound with it. I checked all these pedals out and I can tell you that there is nothing better that the HT DUAL, if you want a TRUE, WARM sound. The first time I tried it I felt astonished: never heard a REAL tube sound from a pedal before! It can sounds much more aggressive than this demo shows, even though it is not good for grind metal. Metal muff sounds fake, I prefer metal zone, but ONLY for metal.

  • @epicvsfvror This is a prime example of different pedals paired with different amps, for example the muff sounds fantastic on the clean channel of a classic 50 but not as good on a jcm 900 and of course you have to eq it right as well. But the point is that because someone has a ht dual or whatever does not mean that it will sound good with every amp

  • Thank you guy's! Very helpful video.

  • @time4coors no problem!

  • I sold my EHX metal muff and bought Damage Control Demonizer...

  • Boss Metal Zone - 1:32

Electro Harmonix Metal Muff - 2:09

    Vox Satchurator - 2:59

Zvex Box of Metal - 3:50

    Radial ToneBone Trimode - 4:48

    Blackstar HT Dual - 5:27

  • I like sound of Vox Satchurator, ZVEX Box of Metal, Toneborne Trimode

  • Comment removed

  • my ltd ec 1000 <3

  • I'll go for Metal Muff and Satchurator.

  • tell please

  • OLM SİKECEM BAK SÖYLEYIN ARTIK !

  • valla ya hangi şarkı söyleyin amk

  • aynen amk ne şarkısı o?

  • which song of vox satchurator ?

  • I like the fan better

  • At last someone who actually plays metal to demonstrate the pedal!!

  • mufffff!!!!!!

  • Metal zone had way more thundering tone

  • metal fuff for recording tonebone for cutting thru the live mix is my vote i have a seymour duncan classic twin pedal you should demo that they even make a metal version of it should have included it in the video theyre tube preamp with hot plate voltage

  • metal muFF THUMBS UP XD

  • am i the only guy who believes in natural amp distortion?

  • @DimebagDarrellCFH33 dude, the original distortion pedals were made in a time before amp footswitches and they just have stuck because of their ease and versatility.

  • @DimebagDarrellCFH33 sweet! :)

  • @DimebagDarrellCFH33 Not at all.. the only non amp distortion i plan to use is an overdrive, mainly for increased sustain and treble boost. Otherwise, you can't get better than amp distortion.

  • @DimebagDarrellCFH33 nope... haha there's one guy over here in the states who does... i use the OD2 channel of a Marshall JVM and it gets me where i need to go quite nicely. a tube screamer doesn't hurt either but yeah... if you've got a high-gain amp like a Marshall or Engl or something (hell, even the Marshall MG's pack some punch), then the only pedals you should need are ones that supplement. one pedal shouldn't have to shape the tone.

  • @DimebagDarrellCFH33 good natural amp distorsion means natural high amounts of cash

  • @MehdiGlz Well you'd have to buy one of these pedals, and you'd have to have an amp already. Lets say you have a solid state 2x12 combo, and you wanted a Zvex Box of Metal. Sell the amp, get maybe $200, and then take the $200 you would've spent on the pedal, and now you have $400 for an amp with much better distortion than any of these pedals. And you can get a whole halfstack used for $400.

  • @DimebagDarrellCFH33 so do I, i cant afford it tho, sorry

  • Metal zone and Metal Muff

  • what i mean by that is they should have them equal or show adjustments

  • the settings effect how they sound so they should have showed the settings

  • I own the Metal Muff - that box is incredibly badass, and more versatile than I thought it would be.

  • thumbs up for the hand in the bottom left corner of the screen at 1:50

  • @tao123451 thumbs down

  • its either the mt-2 or the metal muff, the distortion is just shattering

  • Comment removed

  • Great review but why solo notes?sustain?sweep picking? thx

  • i bet they use noise gate! Its impossible to achive this sound with metal zone.

    Ps. Metal muff win

  • man that Zvex sounds like shit! its no wonder the captain cringed when he was introducing it at the start of the vid xD!

  • The Blackstar wins in my ear. It might be the valve, but it just sounds more real than the other ones.

  • @pmanderson i agree man, in this list its either the blackstar or the metal muff for me! id go for the blackstar though as it does sound more organic and tighter

  • @sunnyjim98 the muff's bass was uber-cranked; that's why it sounded looser. I don't think I've ever turned it up past 2 o'clock... it's massive

  • @srfBoris157 yeah id agree with that too, as the metal muff is also a fair bit cheaper than the blackstar pedal, id say you get more value for money, but it is hard to beat tube tone haha

  • @sunnyjim98 I hear you, man; my dad laughed at me last year when I was talking about tube amps. He said, "Tubes? Like, vacuum tubes? That's OLD technology!" I told him if it ain't broke... To be honest, though, I have found a really nice compromise in the Peavey Bandit 112. Their Transtube stuff can really shine, and you don't have to worry about tube upkeep.

  • @pmanderson INDEED!!!!

  • dude u r holding a metal guitar like a classical guitar

  • @saadsnake6 That is standard position, between the legs is classical

  • box of metal=shitty tone

  • @843andrew it was VERY bassy, then again it was set very bassey, I've never seen one but it'd be cool to play with, maybe for an end of chain thing

  • @Gregchilcott i was watchin this for the vox satchurator.....the metal muff also sounds really good to me

  • metal zone, radial, blackstar and vox are the best for me :)

  • blackstar ftw

  • I only like the Radial, and the Blackstar to lesser extent. Too bad they're so expensive.

  • And the winner is......METAL MUFF!

  • how do these compare to the mxr fullbore metal?

  • @Burninator456 From what I have heard the Fullbore has a lot of top end, I use passive pickups so that may npt be so bad but with EMGs' I'd assume it'd sound like bees. Idk, could be wrong.

  • i have the metal muff but it sounds like in the vid.. not good at all for me, no clarity or too much clarity :(

  • hey just realised the hand is pretty handy - it appeares loads of times! :P

  • lol at the hand randomly appearing on the left at 1:31! Does that come with the medal?

  • I have the boss pedal and it is a boss! A true beast!

  • The amp must be making the metal muff sound good, because i have one and it's TERRIBLE!!

  • @replica07 what kind of amp do you have?

  • Boss and Metal Muff are great!!!

  • I cant believe some of you say that Boss MT-2 and Metal Muff are the best.It is really obvious that Blackstar is a mile ahead of them, eats them for breakfast,no bread.

It is more expensive,so it is kinda expected, but damn people,do you have ears?

  • @CharlieSerbia

I think that you don't listen to the most extreme metal. That Blackstar has a bit smoother distortion (or that is adjusted now to be smoother) and boss and metal muff are having more higly historted more extreme sound.

So I prefer those to my use.

And this was really good video for me, because I'm using Marshall MA series too!

  • @CharlieSerbia I totally agree with you!

  • i love mt-2 metal zone so much ! one of my fav dist pedal ! and i like the vox alot !

  • great pedal shootout

love the Boss and the Blackstar

  • blackstar really owns the rest. it would also sound best in a mix out of the bunch.

  • blackstar all the way...

  • well.....METAL BOSS N METAL MUFF.>>>>>SOUDS THE BEST

  • thanx for this vid

  • metal zone is still the best distortion pedal if you use one !

  • Metal Muff... Fulltone OCD is the best.

  • If you want a good deep tone, does really require a Marshall amp and decent pickups?

  • 1:58 sounds like korpiklaani - vakirauta verse

  • very heavy... i think the amp helps to the heavy

    tone

  • What pedal was he using at the scene at 6:13 ?

  • Haha loved the video *****

  • I was surprised at how awesome the metal muff sounded.

  • @brpadington It doesnt sound as good with a tube amp

  • am i the only guy who liked the satchurator the best?

  • @metalguitarist94

The satchurator is the best sounding pedal in this roundup only by virtue of the other ones being complete shit (most metal oriented pedals are!!!) they're all seriously lacking mids and theres way to much base.

i'm a huge satch fan but I'm very disapointed with his Vox pedals (with the exception of the wah which is fantastic). When the satchurator came out I was completely underwhelmed.

One thing it does do very well is separation - it's very clear for a distortion pedal.

  • @hyperboogie

"they're all seriously lacking mids and theres way to much base."

the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone has a 3 way eq...

so your statement is invalid... i'm not sure about the others but with the MT-2 you can get a MASSIVE array of distortion tones from completely gay ... i mean scoooped... to high mid/treb and low bass.

the reason i'd suggest heavilly AGAINST the satchurator is its lack of diversity... this guitarist clearly dialed the pedals heavy on the bass and scooped at the mids...

  • @6Hellbilly6Deluxe6

therefor the fact that he coulden't get the Satchurator to do this shows its lack of diversity.

p.s. this also means that the guy dialing in the pedals just likes a different tone to what you like... this has no inflection on the pedals AT ALL...

i personally use the Boss MT-2 because my amp doesn't have pre-gain and it can cover that AND sound good... so now i just use that with no pre-gain ... its the only thing that sounds good doing that. (to me)

  • @hyperboogie It's BASS, NOT BASE!! LOL : )

  • @im5150247 oops ... my bad :-)

That's what happens while you're youtubing in your office while doing 8 different things :-)

  • @metalguitarist94 You are not alone.

  • i had never really thought of the satchurator as a metal pedal, but seeing as you could dial in tones decent for metal, and that you didnt even have the gain cranked yet, i might want to check that out now

  • AHOY IT"S THE CAPTAIN!

  • the vox has no business being in this group, nowhere near enough gain/bottom end.

  • @AndertonsMusic Lee, please, do a comparison between the Boss MT-2 and the MXR Fullbore metal.. thank you :)

  • The Metal Muff in this shootout is the rooster for that hen house.

  • wow, sounds great :)

  • the tonebone makes da video aallll shitty

  • metal muff sounds the best to me

  • Umm,Why no Ibanez vintage tube screamer?

  • @hampulator Tubescreamers are more a boost/od pedal, you dont get very much distortion from it

  • @ChetZenor Thanks for the info! I always heard they were the shit, but never tried one.

  • @hampulator no probelem! they are great for boosting a clean amp to get a nice bluesy tone, and if you have a really heavily distorted amp they are awesome as a boost, making it tighter and more aggressive

  • @ChetZenor Thanks for all the info!! Peace and Rock Out!

  • ive had the metal muff for about 3 years now and i LOVE IT :D

  • hey probably no1 will see this but i need help to buy a pedal i just don't know wich one to chose.

If you tried the Roland x30 cube(the one i have) you'll find the R-fier distortion(i want a similar distortion) .

then i bought a Marshall MA 50c and i wanted to have a pedal that sounded like the Roland but with the quality of the Marshall.

    Any suggestions?

  • @MrSuicideMan What you want is a Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier. Start saving up. It's worth it.

Wampler Triple Wreck if you are impatient.

  • @MrSuicideMan I realize this is 3 weeks ago, but if you have not decided yet, check out the Boss power stack

  • Ht dual sucks it has no bite on it's tone. All the solid state pedals sound dry. Tonebone appears to have range but not enough crazy distortion
