It'll be interesting to know if some sort of echo-location technology exists that can be employed during extremely low visibility. Some years ago I heard of 2 jet airliners colliding on the tarmac for the very same reason.
@Afrocanuk You don't want to engage in an air search in bad weather. Visibility is crucial, and you can have zero visibility right to the ground. Almost all aircraft are equipped with radio-band ELTs (Emergency Locator Transmitters) and some are even using GPS emergency transponders. But nothing has been able to deal with Mother Nature. She still rules all.
Utterly sad. It looks like an AS350-type. A helicopter has no business whatsoever flying in terrain like that in inclement weather. Planes can fly over all of that; helicopters are more limited in that capacity. Such an unnecessary risk, such a tragedy. This didn't have to happen.
@SenorSpode WHAT A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. HOW SAD TO LOOSE PEOPLE IN THIS CRASH. DON'T KNOW WHAT TYPE OF HELO CRASHED THERE. TO ME, IT LOOKS LIKE AN UH-1 HUEY. BUT THE HELO DOIN THE FLYIN ON THE CAMERA REPORT IS DEFINATELY AN AS350. LOOK AT THE SHAPE OF THE COCKPIT & EYEBROW WINDOWS AT THE BEGININ OF THE VIDEO.
Everyone dead, the stupid pilot was flying in 0 vis, he went full steam into the hill side. The accident was just behind Kimberley, they where on there way to an avalanche course. Some very good people where in that
@sirlandsalot I was friends with one of those people that was lost that day. He was only a teenager. At one point myself and two other friends were signed up for that course. I can't believe this is actually on youtube. How do you know such info?
@manysticks I knew the pilot and always felt he had no buisness flying in that terrain. I am a heli pilot myself and I flew that same job every sunday for 2 ski seasons. I have flown over the sight many times. It is a tough place to fly with wild winds. The company I worked for did all the recovery work. It was a tragic crash, it frusterates me because one pilot made a decision that caused a lot of lives, all to save a buck and get there faster ...sorry to hear. It was an AS350
I left that comment a month ago...where you been you fucking MORON. Probably running your shaft up some little boys ass. Go get yourself a life. Loser.

helicopter crashes are just so much better than fixed wing. More carnage, violence and destruction

Filming the scene of a fellow pilots and passengers demise is never a easy job.
Very steep slope for the recovery crew to work on.
