  • What's an obligation?

  • This Christmas episode is my very favorite.

Sheldon: "You mean I now possess the Leonard Nimoy's DNA?"

  • @hebrewgod dude , the whole show is meant to be funny . Sheldon is supposed to make people laugh because of his personality. The show producers meant for him to be like that to make people love the show and they never meant to get people laughing at a mentally I'll human being . So you sir are totally wrong about your ignorant comment. I personally laugh Sheldon , he's my favorite person and the reason why I watch the show every Thursday night .

  • Does no one else realize that the humor of this show is based entirely on laughing at Sheldon's Asperger's syndrome. You're laughing at an autistic person. I hope you're all proud of yourselves.

  • Only Sheldon Cooper would be offended by gift giving

  • @Ryocanaba Hmm, I can't recall whether Caesar was happy when he was given Pompey's head.

  • @joshonator12 THAT is an intellectually brilliant response. however i'm obligated to give a sarcastic response in which you foresee the value of your IQ, for reasons unknown except that this is a video about sheldon.

  • @legomastr1 Why do you feel obligated? At any rate, my main reason is that I disapprove of pagan celebrations.

  • @joshonator12 im trying to relate my comment to sheldons personality

  • @legomastr1 I don't think Sheldon would ever call another living person brilliant xD.

  • @joshonator12 I think he has actually.

  • @joshonator12 In one episode, he called the engineer brilliant after he altered his friendship algorithm.

  • @joshonator12 thats why i said i feel obligated not to

  • @joshonator12 love this exchange of words you to have:p

  • @joshonator12 Actually, he would probably acknowledge Beverly Hofstater as brilliant, and possibly Amy Farrah Fowler or Doctor Plimpton.

  • @joshonator12 i like trains

  • @Jsahneiltbhy U better or else i'll reach thru the internet and punch you :D.

  • @joshonator12 what?? why the fuck would you know that?

  • @RatePage geek obv

  • @joshonator12 yea but who is pompey?

  • @Ryocanaba Except for the one that was given to him.... very well thought, or else he still be more offended LOL

  • @Ryocanaba It's Dr. Sheldon Cooper ;).

  • @jungleboy69

    I know

  • @Ryocanaba so was my girlfriend on valentine's day...Period.

  • @Ryocanaba lots of people feel the same..

  • Sheldon :')

  • And that, Charlie Brown, is what boredom is all about XD

  • Guys and girls im in excel math and i want to talk smack to sheldon

  • ahhh the EYE OF HORUS, a classic pagan God of the egyptians, the logo for CBS watermarked on this clip. the ever watchful eye poking fun at the real God...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh classic Sheldon, I love you <3

  • @GemGems3 dude please suck my dick.

  • Remember when her birthday was!

I always thanked her profusely but she'd just say she saw them and thought I'd like them.

PS. I married the wrong sister! :0

  • Actually, kidkhorne, you could just forget your own self pity (sorry to sound harsh) and allow your friends to do something nice for you without being "paid back". Just like Penny wanted.

The problem with gift giving is when people who don't give won't let others give to them because of their own personal hang ups. After my divorce, my sister-in-law sent me over the next couple of years some of the nicest and most thoughtful birthday and Christmas gifts I ever received. And I didn't even reme

  • It's not Sheldons fault christians are dumb.

  • @InTylerWeTrust84 that's a horrible thing to say. no need for that. im very offended

  • @Games4PlayStation i don't care. Go kill yourself.

  • @InTylerWeTrust84 Get fucked man very childish grow the hell up man...

  • @InTylerWeTrust84 ahahahhahahahahahhaha. your gonna get far in life

  • @InTylerWeTrust84

The foundation of gift giving is NOT reciprocity.

A gift is the giving of items WITHOUT the expectation of receiving something in return.

    Now who's dumb.

  • @Carolinewoohoo

If you listen carefully, he says that it was later appropriated by Northern Europe. That includes Germany :)

  • i actually stopped listening to what he was saying :P

  • Raj was sitting at Sheldon's spot !!!! :O

  • whatz this episode called

  • it's a saturnalia miracle!

  • I feel the same as Sheldon about gifts. This year I told my roommates, "please don't get me anything!" and they do and leave me with an obligation to buy them something despite the fact I'm dirt broke this year.

  • @kidkhorne they dont care about ur needs or wants, they just want to play christmas. Sorry but that's christians for ya.

  • @InTylerWeTrust84 I'm actually Christian, I just find the commercialism that the western world has put into Christmas draws away from the intended meaning of the holiday. Frankly I'd be happy just enjoying a pleasant evening with my loved ones. Of course that is also something people take for granted and seem save for "special" occasions instead of spending time with loved ones any old night and just enjoying what you have and not focusing on so much what you want.

  • But... presents!

  • I thought pagans celebrated Yule

    Tis confusion!

  • So if they spreaded their culture then it spread out to others they conquered thus a wide rang of people doing it. It shows up in Roman due to their massive power with church and state and the conversion. Its under Martin Luther because his era was the first with lights and raking it inside a home. The Germans were know for big elaborate ones.

  • No, you can find the tree in the Bible in the book of Jeremiah 10th chapter. That was at least 600 years before Christ and the Romans. That was during the Babylonian empire.

  • @mycraven4drums

the fact you said the bible renders your arguement invalid

  • "I know, it's funny when it's not happening to us." Lol :)

  • pause then ply then press 8 8 8 8 then 9 9 9 9 :)

    Enjoy :P

  • what episode is this?

  • Dear Diary,

It's been neraly 5 months now and i still havent found 2:07.

Food is running low and water is running dry. I dont think i can take much more of this

  • I have been saying "merry Saturnalia" to everyone before break

  • @Texamerican12 *pats on back

  • I love Jim Parsons. :) He´s so cool :3

  • I love how they're wearing bowling shirts while playing what I can only imagine is Wii Bowling :D

  • good for Sheldon! that's great!i think no one has the right to make fun of him!

  • i would shove that gift up his ass

  • Anyone else notice raj is in sheldons spot and he's not freaking out

  • Howard makes a great narrator

  • Io Saturnalia, everybody.

  • Don't forget the Yuletide from the ancient Germanic people! Scandinavians today still call Christmas "Jul."

  • The scary thing is, I hold most of this reasoning to my abhorrence of the "season" as my own and did so long before this show aired it's first episode.

    A.G.

  • Sheldon is wrong about reciprocity. Reciprocity is good thing because humans are communal and do much better when surrounded by people they have a high degree of affection for.

  • @SamWiseGingy It depends on the individual. I say if you feel like you "have to" then you shouldnt. If you want to then do.

  • I loved it, i haven't seen this episode yet, but I want to. Does anyone have the Season and the Episode #??

"You haven't given me a present, you have given me an obligation!"

  • I don't celebrate it cos there's no point.

  • "Gather around kids, its time Seldons beloved Christmas special !"

  • Not only is The Big Bang Theory a hilarious show, but it can actually be a good way to learn a thing or two...personally, I didn't know about the pagan traditions that turned into decorating Christmas trees

  • Raj is in Sheldon's spot!!!!! :O !

  • The Christmas tree was invented by the Germans, wasn't it?

  • @Carolinewoohoo Aye, the earliest records of it are there i believe.

  • @joshonator12 It is also the origin of the Pagan ritual of Yule. Hence, Yule log.

I think Yule and what he named is the same ritual, just different names. I'm not sure on the naming though.

  • @joshonator12 Yeah but the whole idea of putting up a tree is in ancient rome

but for the reason was totally different!!! :PPP

  • @joshonator12 @Carolinewoohoo With the name of Christmas Tree maybe. But decoration of trees was something that was also taking place in ancient Greece, and not during winter as Sheldon explains here ;)

  • @joshonator12 no, the first time christmas three ever used was in Riga, Latvia in 1510

  • @joshonator12 Your either Irish or Scottish were are you from Im going with Irish

  • @Carolinewoohoo 0:30. he mentians the northern europeand creating the "so called christmas tree.

  • @Carolinewoohoo the germans were the first to adopt it from the pagans hence why Sheldon said northern Europeans adopted it

  • @Carolinewoohoo Uhhh...I dont think soooo... Norwegians used the "Jul" log which became the Christmas tree other Pagan religions also brought the entire tree in the hovel in order to allow it to burn in the fire through the darkest part of the year. The Norwegians kept part of the tree burning into the new year and then extinguised it in order to have a good luck charm to light the next winter feast a year later for good luck.

  • @Carolinewoohoo

    jerimiah 10

  • wait is raj sitting in sheldon's spot? WHAT THE HELL??!!

  • "Gather 'round kids, it's time Sheldon's beloved Christmas Special!"

  • This show would suck without Sheldon.

  • I was happy when Sheldon mentioned it because I knew it. However, it's the northern Yulsa worship that brought the tree. As for the Saturnalia singing and decorations - pagan romans would hire actors to go from house to house and sing. Also, people would decorate their houses with red and shiny things. After northern barbarians invaded roman lands two religious practices merged. Christians (who were before pagans worshiping these festivals) continued the practice but on new religious overtone.

  • @shadowC10ne ^^ I should clarify that last bracket text: christian converts (all romans and the rest of europe) after adopting christianity kept their own festival, in this case Saturnalia (which was already merged with northern Yulsa worship), but added a christian overtone to it. There are some videos here on YouTube about origins of christmas so check it out.

  • @shadowC10ne It was one of the ways early Christians tried to convert people. I know, I've been one since I was five. We wanted the Romans and pagans to substitute their pagan holidays with ones focused on Jesus Christ.

  • That's the first I've heard of that reason for the Christmas tree... Cool. I always heard that Christians use the Evergreen tree becuase Jesus died on a "tree" giving the human race the everlasting gift of life... Thus the Evergreen tree... I wonder if both can be right. Prehaps Christians saw the Pagan's evergreen branches and were like "That matches up with our religion too! Let's use that tree aswell" ... Oh happy day when we're all right ^-^

  • I still love how the other guys analyze, understand, and exploit Sheldon, man it's great. hehehe

  • I love Sheldon! =:D

  • lol i like how they all wear bowling shirts to play Wii bowling.

  • Raj is sitting in Sheldon's spot. THE HORROR!

  • @Brandon33akahk I'm a Christian and I love the show. Some of it's comments can be irritating but it isn't serious so I'm ok with it.

  • I love this show, my cousin does not like it because apparently you have to be an atheist to like it granted I am an atheist but the humor in this show, you dont have to be a physicist to get most of the science references you only had to have gotten through 11th grade chemistry... and love physics.

  • Hilarious! They're shining the WII controllers like bowling balls! Classic!

  • which episode and season is this one?

  • he's sitting in sheldon's spot!!

  • @madametj THANK YOU!! some one else noticed at least!!

  • i want a sheldon-like roommate when i go off to university.

  • is Sheldon gay?

  • @Antinarella1 nope

  • ...Gotta Love The Wii Bowling Shirts

  • OMG! Rasj sitting on sheldon's spot!!!!! :o

  • @punkrockarmy101 they're playing nintendo wii - which implies that spot switching is rather natural. I would assume that since Sheldon is holding the remote, that it is his turn, and that raj is up next.

  • @hddrummer Yeah, maybe, but in an episode he was mad, because someone sat in his spot and his butprint was all messed up :p

  • For someone who doesn't esteem social sciences, Sheldon seems to be quite insistent on embracing the principles of balanced reciprocity.

  • @virtuallyarealist I think its because he feels obligated to follow social conventions.

  • @joshonator12 Ironic...considering that he's cursed with social awkwardness

  • "And that Charlie Brown is what boredom is all about" lol!!!

  • wait so all i know about christmas is a lie!?!?

    meh ill give gifts anyway
