@hebrewgod dude , the whole show is meant to be funny . Sheldon is supposed to make people laugh because of his personality. The show producers meant for him to be like that to make people love the show and they never meant to get people laughing at a mentally I'll human being . So you sir are totally wrong about your ignorant comment. I personally laugh Sheldon , he's my favorite person and the reason why I watch the show every Thursday night .
Does no one else realize that the humor of this show is based entirely on laughing at Sheldon's Asperger's syndrome. You're laughing at an autistic person. I hope you're all proud of yourselves.
@joshonator12 THAT is an intellectually brilliant response. however i'm obligated to give a sarcastic response in which you foresee the value of your IQ, for reasons unknown except that this is a video about sheldon.
I love Sheldon, but if Sheldon was a real person, he would have absolutely ZERO friends. You can't merge well with the rest of society with his way of interacting with people. But on this show, it's fucking hilarious.
ahhh the EYE OF HORUS, a classic pagan God of the egyptians, the logo for CBS watermarked on this clip. the ever watchful eye poking fun at the real God...
the first days of Saturnalia also involved temples full of sacrifices, agoras full of drunk peasants slaves and nobles talking with each other, the public bath jesus fucking christ you don't wanna know the gay shit that happend there on saturnalia and then a little private gift giving for the 25
The Saturnalia was the dramatic setting of the multivolume work of that name by Macrobius, a Latin writer from late antiquity.
Actually, kidkhorne, you could just forget your own self pity (sorry to sound harsh) and allow your friends to do something nice for you without being "paid back". Just like Penny wanted.
The problem with gift giving is when people who don't give won't let others give to them because of their own personal hang ups. After my divorce, my sister-in-law sent me over the next couple of years some of the nicest and most thoughtful birthday and Christmas gifts I ever received. And I didn't even reme
I feel the same as Sheldon about gifts. This year I told my roommates, "please don't get me anything!" and they do and leave me with an obligation to buy them something despite the fact I'm dirt broke this year.
@InTylerWeTrust84 I'm actually Christian, I just find the commercialism that the western world has put into Christmas draws away from the intended meaning of the holiday. Frankly I'd be happy just enjoying a pleasant evening with my loved ones. Of course that is also something people take for granted and seem save for "special" occasions instead of spending time with loved ones any old night and just enjoying what you have and not focusing on so much what you want.
So if they spreaded their culture then it spread out to others they conquered thus a wide rang of people doing it. It shows up in Roman due to their massive power with church and state and the conversion. Its under Martin Luther because his era was the first with lights and raking it inside a home. The Germans were know for big elaborate ones.
No, you can find the tree in the Bible in the book of Jeremiah 10th chapter. That was at least 600 years before Christ and the Romans. That was during the Babylonian empire.
The scary thing is, I hold most of this reasoning to my abhorrence of the "season" as my own and did so long before this show aired it's first episode.
Sheldon is wrong about reciprocity. Reciprocity is good thing because humans are communal and do much better when surrounded by people they have a high degree of affection for.
Not only is The Big Bang Theory a hilarious show, but it can actually be a good way to learn a thing or two...personally, I didn't know about the pagan traditions that turned into decorating Christmas trees
@joshonator12@Carolinewoohoo With the name of Christmas Tree maybe. But decoration of trees was something that was also taking place in ancient Greece, and not during winter as Sheldon explains here ;)
@Carolinewoohoo Uhhh...I dont think soooo... Norwegians used the "Jul" log which became the Christmas tree other Pagan religions also brought the entire tree in the hovel in order to allow it to burn in the fire through the darkest part of the year. The Norwegians kept part of the tree burning into the new year and then extinguised it in order to have a good luck charm to light the next winter feast a year later for good luck.
I was happy when Sheldon mentioned it because I knew it. However, it's the northern Yulsa worship that brought the tree. As for the Saturnalia singing and decorations - pagan romans would hire actors to go from house to house and sing. Also, people would decorate their houses with red and shiny things. After northern barbarians invaded roman lands two religious practices merged. Christians (who were before pagans worshiping these festivals) continued the practice but on new religious overtone.
@shadowC10ne ^^ I should clarify that last bracket text: christian converts (all romans and the rest of europe) after adopting christianity kept their own festival, in this case Saturnalia (which was already merged with northern Yulsa worship), but added a christian overtone to it. There are some videos here on YouTube about origins of christmas so check it out.
@shadowC10ne It was one of the ways early Christians tried to convert people. I know, I've been one since I was five. We wanted the Romans and pagans to substitute their pagan holidays with ones focused on Jesus Christ.
That's the first I've heard of that reason for the Christmas tree... Cool. I always heard that Christians use the Evergreen tree becuase Jesus died on a "tree" giving the human race the everlasting gift of life... Thus the Evergreen tree... I wonder if both can be right. Prehaps Christians saw the Pagan's evergreen branches and were like "That matches up with our religion too! Let's use that tree aswell" ... Oh happy day when we're all right ^-^
I love this show, my cousin does not like it because apparently you have to be an atheist to like it granted I am an atheist but the humor in this show, you dont have to be a physicist to get most of the science references you only had to have gotten through 11th grade chemistry... and love physics.
