Amazon.com. U can get them way cheaper,you have to put them in yourself but i dont really mind I like doing it myself anyways I got 18 hair feathers & 100 hair crimp beads for like 25$ I got synthetic feather's though if you get the real ones they might be a bit more expensive but they will be a bit cheaper then going to a salon, With synthetic ones you can wash,sleep,curl,flat iron,& use produces on them just like the real ones plus you get the look & save a bird i I think that pretty cool :)

@meghanrosette ... Only a small number of the feathers are gathered that way ... Most of the roosters are euthanized in order to be plucked ... It's easier that way & less likely to damage the feathers ... Some farms don't euthanize but even then, most of the birds die from the extensive plucking ...It would be nice if all of them were molted feathers but that is not the case ... The roosters don't loose the feathers fast enough to support the customer demands of fly fishing & hair extensions =(

I'm not trying to be a downer ... BUT ... Did you know that thousands of birds are EUTHANIZED for these feather hair extentions ... ?!?? ... Just to give you an example, Whiting Farms in Colorado "harvests" 1500 birds a week ... and that's just ONE week on ONE farm ... ... ... I'm not downing this trend but I hope people will look for another option instead of real feathers ... <3

And also, you never know what kind of habitat the birds are living in...but I'd be pretty confident to say that they weren't allowed to roam in some huge field, but rather in small coops. The longer the feather is, the longer the bird has lived. If you chose to follow this trend, it's fine, but personally I'd rather synthetic ones, although harder to find...

You can also get them online and put them in yourself (well...not by yourself...that's difficult...have someone help you) just by using pliers. The sets usually come with the feathers, the loopy thingy and the little hollow thingys (as you called them) and it costs about the same. They're really easy! just google feather hair extensions and there are a bunch of websites to order them from. I just got mine in blue! I absolutely love yours Meghan! :)
