Hmm, if it were a lvl 40 DoK vs a lvl 40 AM, the Archmage would've died hands down, no ifs, no buts, no nothing, a DoK can pretty much solo anything, depends on the player. (mind you i'm not too sure about those Iron Breakers -.-'')
As a 20 archmage I took down a 21 tank solo, it took forever but I spent like 80% of the time just healing myself and then 20% of the time refreshing the DoT's waiting until he started to run, when he did I unleashed all of my DoT's, /laugh then did DD to finish him. It was cool too because he was on a horse and I was behind him, both riding to a keep, then he turned around and we both dismounted and charged towards each other and we were at the large gate in tier 2 elf.
Never gotten why peeps bitch about 1vs1 in a mmo pvp setteing.
If your class is weak against one class, dont fight that one alone, or better yet, let your stronger mates take on that class while you fight the class your strong against... and so on.
Peeps should think more along the way of team play balance, I think.

btw archmage. in this vid you dont move around enough use the w s a d q e keys and strafe around as you use your DoT's only stop to heal and use the channeling spell. Makes it a lot harder for melee to kill you especially DoK because they have to stop every time they want to heal which lets you get some distance on them.
for one of their heals. then they have the channeled attack that heals which you don't have to stop for and then they have the HoT, but if they're in a tight spot and that channeled one is on cooldown then they need to stop and use their one that has a cast time (not sure on the name) and if they run out of soul essence and their target is out of range they need to stand still and transfer action points to soul essence.... so kiting is best for the archmage
that's not remotely true, DoK's have several moves that they can cast from melee moves, which can almost always be used moving. they also have an insta HoT. i doubt they'd have to stop moving as much as the AM would.
well to the people who said DoK sucks ... i played against one DoK rank 9 and he allways win, even when i attack with my mate rank 8 .. he killed both all the time. I'm swordmaster rank 10 with all stuff up :s
Hate to say it but this DoK had something going on in real life...at this Tier...DoK would send the archmage running. DoK can out heal all that god awful pre specced dot damage...dot detaunt is only for pure casters and weakened melee without healing potions in the pack..this DoK needs work.

well you could spend that last second moving your mouse to click silence failing and letting the heal get by or just hit a key instantaneously
it might not make them a bad player in terms of knowing what their doing and strategy but without that speed and reaction thats needed it makes most sub-par
and that's why you move the mouse as the cast bar fills up. Instants are a bit different but you dont have a ton of them. Plus thats why you set your action bar up however its best for you where everything useful is close together. clicking has no effect on a player. i click and I can 3v1 on my rank 11 archmage (just a few hours ago I killed a rank 10 sorceress, rank 9 DoK and rank 11 chosen at the same time) It just depends on the player not how they choose to cast spells
lol a dps healer and tank all taken out by an archmage, they must have sucked outrageously (no offence or anything) but that is just funny. Sorc can do good dps, dok can annoy you and heal and tank wont die with heals so they must have been very rubbish. (im not saying you arn't good but I am saying I can solo am 90% of the time)
"balance" is over rated classes ment to be diff and beat others id hate to play like that taking 2 minutes just to kill one guy waste of time

That is of course assuming you are looking to create some variation between factions and classes instead of cookie-cutter designs. This doesn't just apply to MMOs either. You'd be interested to see the detail put into balancing some of the better fighting games out there. MvC2 is not a good example -_-

No. It is not. I'm glad you feel advanced game design is easy, you should be very well off as a game developer by now if it comes that naturally to you. You have to consider *every* element of gameplay (such as PvE) when making those decisions, its not as easy as nerf class A and buff class B. Poke around on the net about MMO game balance theory. You might not be so frustrated with developers afterward.
lol i dunno about your thoughts about balance really. i think that running around in an MMO just playing rock paper scissors doesnt really sound that fun. i think most classes should be able to kill most other classes if the player is significantly more skilled/geared.
even if you run into situations when two healers run into eachother and can't kill the other until an ally comes, who cares? the healers aren't dps. their heals would have to be terrible in order for them to kill eachother.
that DoK dosn't know what he is doing. you see him using ranged attacks....... again ....... he just failed.
