TM's basically the same thing anyway, except you're given a 'secret' mantra, which is really the same for each age group. Originally, there was only one mantra, "RAM" -- which is pronounced "RAAHM". Just use that. Vocalise your mantra softly to begin with and over the course of a minute say the mantra softer and softer until you're only repeating it in your mind, while your consciousness rests on Oneness. You don't control the breath, just repeat the mantra. if your mind drifts, bring it back.

Transcendental Meditation is the only right way to learn how to meditate...all of such these youtube videos waste your time and make you learn wrong mantras...or learn nothing...believe me cause I have my experience.

Yes, I agree with you, there are many ways to get knowledge on Guru hands, but not by youtube videos or other commercial investments :), so, according to our daily life routine I found that Transcendental Meditation is the best way to have that inner peace and knowledge even to learn Yoga in general including ( Yogic Flying ) technique.
I have researched on TM recently and found out that even Maharishi's videos are uploaded on youtube. They are all over youtube man, David Lynch, Oprah etc talking about the benefits and experiences of TM. So its ok to post on youtube. Its an excellent medium in this modern world. Besides Anmol is doing a good job by showing us these techniques for free. If you are aware TM fees are exorbitant.
and for peoples safety. so many people die of so many silly reasons. the biggest silly reason is disease. disease of the body, the mind, the intention , the character. people will be safe once they clear their diseases. if one starts to learn how to ride a bicycle, some learn it faster, some fall, some never ride it. so does that mean the bicycle is wrong? haha. great. if 10 years of meditation couldnt give you wisdom then your intention to meditate was to run away from responsiblities.
if a person volition is wrong in case of doing meditation and wants the wrong things in life trying meditation then he is gonna suffer. you are getting attached to the person who tried it and was unsuccessful. he got what was due to him from his past life karmas and this life's karmas. if one gets slapped then the slapper and the one who is slapped both choose their own doings. one gets what one deserves. you are no one to cry foul. @nextnextdoor1 meditation doesn't tamper with the body. It simply let's the mind wonder into it's peaceful place, it's own little heaven. I'm a Christian and a firm believer in belief in Jesus as our savior. And believing will bring us salvation. All yoga and meditation are part of a system that is linked to energy pathways in the body that are linked to certain deities that are not of God. I could show you very real accounts of EVEN gurus who have got out of these practices because they say the deities associated with the energy pathways are not 'gods' from heaven.

@nevernextdoor1 to get to the panel of love and forgiveness, how about clearing the impurities within? do they vanish in one day? what you are saying is karma yoga. but even karma yoga is "yoga" i.e to be "aware" all the time. and how will reach that state? through meditation. loving and forgiveness without clearing the impurities within will only be a superficial action. the impurities have to be cleared at the thought level and not at the habit or character level.

The path to God is difficult and narrow, it requires a simple life of love, forgiveness and faith in the example Jesus set. He warned of getting involved with all eastern mysticism. I have been practising meditation and following certain krishna doctrines for 10 years and saw some dangerous things, I'm now convinced of it's origin. I'm just warning those who might want to know.

@33karmadharma Yes we all have choices. One of my choices was to warn unsuspecting aspirants of the pitfalls of certain practices. They are then free to also make choices based on knowledge as opposed to ignorance. Protecting your traditions are more important to you than people's safety.

@MissAppleMac From what I've gathered, I think you're better off finding somewhere peaceful and comfortable, but not to get so relaxed as you fall asleep, or somewhere that you associate with sleeping for that matter.
Okay, so I sat and tried to fold my legs into lotus position. But my hip popped out of its socket! Damn! It hurt like HELL! So I began moaning and groaning, but the other meditators around me thought I was chanting my mantra so they ignored me. Then I farted this rotten eggs scented bomb that wafted around the room. NOW they began paying attention to me. So then I just shit my pants, hoping that they'd call an ambulance..."Ohhmmmmmmm...."
To those who comment negatively, look up the symptoms of anxiety and depression. If it's chronic it can't be helped through medicine- it just screws with you (side-effects) and you feel drugged, not happier. Therefore, if you can't rely on medicine or your conditioned-depressive mind, then the only way is to train your mind to relax and think positively. I've had chronic depression/anxiety for 6 years, and consequently I don't really care much about life. BUT mantra may work. Hope it works...
@stephanieisinsane I hope it does work for you and you can discover how to be at peace in the world. I am always calmed and relaxed by the idea that energy is always borrowed, not owned. The less mental attachment I place on things in the world the more I can relax and just let stuff be.
Inhale - put tongue upward, gently close mouth, focus breath in through nose. so gentle and ease that you can't hear a sound (relax stomach & rips, bring energy to Dan Tien); Exhale - slightly open lips, place tonque behind teeth hanging in between. hi..so.. hum seems very similar to ancient egyptians use of, SIA...HU..sia on the in breath...hu on the out breath..this was used mostly in tantra...kind of like..ying..yang..although you do not mention anything regarding the male..female.here..would appreciate any feedback..i enjoyed this...thankyou....namamste...william
Yeah keep at it! I learned the Sudarshan Kriya technique through The Art of Living Foundation which is like this one in some ways. It does work for the anxiety and depression. It also helped for my PMS, ADHD, and irritable bowel syndrome. What can be troubling is when you feel strange negative emotions and even diffuse emotions you have not felt for years but suddenly come back. I am pretty sure this is just negative karma being cleansed from the system!
This meditation is working wonders for me, I am working on "So" and the "hum" part is I nailed it. when I inhale I can't seem to sync my breath to "so" I mean think it my mind. I think I am putting to much pressure to get it right, I am going to take it slow and not expect anything from it but escape from the world to my mind.

@dridacostapaula you are not your thoughts, you are a silent being who is listening to the thoughts. focus on your breath for a while and become aware of all of things that are happening in your body, as well as thoughts. be aware, listen, observe them, but do not believe them. you are the silent presence.
Does this help people with an extreme level of anxiety? I get panic attacks at least once a week and I become hysterical. I completely become derealized. I'm trying to avoid having to take medications because this panic only started a few months ago.
In beginning the posture might create some tension in your body. Don't try to fight with that. just sit in any posture as long as your body feels relaxed and calm. Med. is for mind. And mind is connected to body. So, once you over come of your mind, it will be easy for your body to follow your order and you can sit in posture, because once you over come of your mind, it will be easy for body to obey your command.

continued...my question to you then is... how is this technique helpful in real life tasks for the purpose of which we are trying to improve our concentration. If you take the case of test, the mind is constantly occupied by a highly engaging tasks, so it cant put itself on autopilot, so the awareness is as it is heightened , more so because of adrenaline..
please elaborate on the benefits of these techniques as i would love to adopt them if they have some real benefit.
but since we have a very capable mind it sets easy tasks on autopilot (just when u have been driving the last 10 miles but dont remember doing so), The thoughts start creeping in after a few breaths, because the actions of the task have been easily understood and we can perform them on autopilot., so the mind begins a second task and begins wandering.
it is scientifically proven that when we think vocal thoughts or read, or larynx moves.
so in a way our reading speed is limited by the movement of our larynx. this is also y if you wish to improve your reading speed it is advisable that you "hum" so that you develop a habit of reading with moving the larynx.
I think the significance of thinking the sounds is the same as it assigns a task to the mind, so it would not be able to think of other thoughts, its like creating a diversion.
i have started meditating recently, though i have been in touch with a few knowledge able who have been doing so for years and are qualified yoga practitioners. They have all told me that they have themselves many so called "enlightened men" and non has been able to prove the veracity of the chakras.

He also told the Baba ji is thousands of years old and is still doing sadhana in some part of india. Can you lean against something when you meditate? Its funny, I go around all day with no problems, and can sit for ages quite still too, but as soon as i meditate i get neck ache. Any Ideas?
Hi. I've decided to start meditation as i have depression and anxiety. Idon't really want to take anti-depressant drugs like prozac as they have side effects so mediation seemed like a good idea.
I found that doing this mantra relaxed me but i for the rest of the day i was in a very strange mood. I wasn't exactly depressed but i just felt empty and confused. If i keep doing this will i become happy or is it just making the mater worse.
Hope things are going well for you. It is not unusual, in fact it would be unusual for all hell to not mentally brake loose. In the first month or so... Let me assure you that it is natural and a sign that things are taking a turn for the better. Most people don't realize that they are standing in a bucket of **** until they start meditating.
Also, perhaps the feeling you were having was simply because it is new and unusual for you. The reason being that us humans have a habit of thinking we need to "hold onto things" instead of letting nature take its course... Initially letting go can feel unusual as it is new to you. LTY (Light to you)
@ClaudeMcBanister you might want to see your doctor, you may have a low level of seratonin which can easily be treated with the help of mild anti-depressants along with therapy, conscious living including mediation. All have helped me tremendously live with Depression.

This is your body begging you to pay attention, so be aware of your feelings and your thoughts and the rest will all fall into place if you continue to always come back to the breath.

@ClaudeMcBanister : Make sure you stay away from alcohol. Alcohol - even one drink - causes depression, and anxiety. That may not be your problem, but I just thought I'd mention it for others. Alcohol causes depression. I'd give up all anti-depressants. A true anti-depressant has NO side effects. I'd switch to something like marijuana while coming off the pills - it's been in the Chinese pharmocopaeia for over 4,000 years.
Keep at it! I had bad anxiety and depression and turned to yoga and meditation. It's not easy in the beginning but it's somethign you have to work at. I've been doing it atleast once everyday for the past 6 months and I'm telling you it really opens up your mind and smooths out any inner edginess. Meditation is something I can't live without now
@ClaudeMcBanister Hi, In order to get benefit from Med., You must believe it is just for you. It will help you to cure your depression. Med. is nothing but just a process to going to your real self. Meditation is not magic or it won't create any miracle for you. But, It will help you to cure all suffering and will give you the understanding of Life.So, No mater how you feel, You must do meditation for 10-30 mins a day at once. You won't need teacher to do meditation, You are your own teacher.

It was the most beneficial step I have taken in my life. I am now a yogi and am a ray of sunshine to all who come into my life. You can do it easily, and the benefits you will definitely see in a short time.

@ClaudeMcBanister You need to make sure you do absolutely nothing for 5 to 10 minutes after your meditation. If you meditate and then jump right back into daily life, your mental energy will be all out of wack. Also look up some grounding exercises. In a mental sense, meditation elevates your mind, but you should not leave it up there and go about the day, there are very specific grounding exercises you can do after meditation. Hope that helps.

To download a day's stress I normally mediate in the evening when I can clean and ease my mind and body, then enjoy a good night sleep. Also meditation in the early morning, that give me a lot of pure energy to perform in the day. "Letting Go" is important during the meditation, let go those images or thoughts you have during the meditation. Free your mind and body. Can try head massage afterwards to stimulate your energy flow. Mei Lan.

Thank you for asking. I'm not going to lie but i'm awful. I dont think i have depression. I think it is depersonalisation/derealisation. Meditation probably will help, but ive read that it can cause depersonalization in some people. Im kind of stuck in this spiritual/philisophical rut where i question everything and i believe that ultimately my existence is pointless. Literally everything i experience i question it and its really really horrible. I appreciate your concern though.

@ClaudeMcBanister meditation works like homeopathy, even at a slower pace. You never realize when you improved and how much you have improved. What you are experiencing is just temporary and you would start feeling same or less depressed after a few days. it takes 3-6 months for meditation to transform you. TIP: do not eat non vegetarian food, fast food, alcohol, and nicotine etc. talk less and ave lots of water. do pranayam before meditation. it is must. for more deatils feel free to contact.
really awesome! i tried while the video was playing and almost instantly felt very relaxed. i also lost track of time and when i opened my eyes again i had no idea how much time had passed (the clock showed 7 minutes though). Even now a while after i stopped i feel affected of the meditation. will be doing this daily from now on!
A question! I have taught myself a relaxation technique to fall asleep at night which I have used for many years. I lie on my back, hands crossed over my chest, focus on darkness and my breathing my only thoughts are of heavy arms and legs, pushing into the bed, then I can feel it begin. I seem to enter a place between awake and sleep I can stay there or fall asleep. Is this mediation or something else? Should I be using this type of technique or have I taught myself some bad skills?

Yes, I agree with you, there are many ways to get knowledge on Guru hands, but not by youtube videos or other commercial investments :), so, according to our daily life routine I found that Transcendental Meditation is the best way to have that inner peace and knowledge even to learn Yoga in general including ( Yogic Flying ) technique.

They are all over youtube man, David Lynch, Oprah etc talking about the benefits and experiences of TM. So its ok to post on youtube. Its an excellent medium in this modern world. I'm a Christian and a firm believer in belief in Jesus as our savior. And believing will bring us salvation. All yoga and meditation are part of a system that is linked to energy pathways in the body that are linked to certain deities that are not of God. I could show you very real accounts of EVEN gurus who have got out of these practices because they say the deities associated with the energy pathways are not 'gods' from heaven.

I'm sure you learned things following certain krishna doctrines, but not everyone follows those doctrines. I have a hard time believing that a follower Christ is damned if he/she promotes finding inner-peace through meditation.

The path to God is difficult and narrow, it requires a simple life of love, forgiveness and faith in the example Jesus set. He warned of getting involved with all eastern mysticism. They are then free to also make choices based on knowledge as opposed to ignorance. You are saying, don't inform people of the facts, just let them try for themselves then if they fall they'll have learned a lesson. Even if that 'fall' may be such a grave error they die from it. Protecting your traditions are more important to you than people's safety.

Okay, so I sat and tried to fold my legs into lotus position. But my hip popped out of its socket! Damn! It hurt like HELL! So I began moaning and groaning, but the other meditators around me thought I was chanting my mantra so they ignored me. Then I farted this rotten eggs scented bomb that wafted around the room. To those who comment negatively, look up the symptoms of anxiety and depression. If it's chronic it can't be helped through medicine- it just screws with you (side-effects) and you feel drugged, not happier. Therefore, if you can't rely on medicine or your conditioned-depressive mind, then the only way is to train your mind to relax and think positively. I've had chronic depression/anxiety for 6 years, and consequently I don't really care much about life. BUT mantra may work. Hope it works...

Inhale - put tongue upward, gently close mouth, focus breath in through nose. so gentle and ease that you can't hear a sound (relax stomach & rips, bring energy to Dan Tien); Exhale - slightly open lips, place tonque behind teeth hanging in between. Gently and ease that again hear no sound.; One in- & exhale counts as 1, count to 9 and then revert back to 1 till number counting silently disappear. For beginner, would suggest to join a group. Yeah keep at it! I learned the Sudarshan Kriya technique through The Art of Living Foundation which is like this one in some ways. It does work for the anxiety and depression. It also helped for my PMS, ADHD, and irritable bowel syndrome. What can be troubling is when you feel strange negative emotions and even diffuse emotions you have not felt for years but suddenly come back. I am pretty sure this is just negative karma being cleansed from the system!

This meditation is working wonders for me, I am working on "So" and the "hum" part is I nailed it. when I inhale I can't seem to sync my breath to "so" I mean think it my mind. I think I am putting to much pressure to get it right, I am going to take it slow and not expect anything from it but escape from the world to my mind.

In beginning the posture might create some tension in your body. Don't try to fight with that. just sit in any posture as long as your body feels relaxed and calm. Med. is for mind. And mind is connected to body. So, once you over come of your mind, it will be easy for your body to follow your order and you can sit in posture, because once you over come of your mind, it will be easy for body to obey your command.

continued...my question to you then is... how is this technique helpful in real life tasks for the purpose of which we are trying to improve our concentration. If you take the case of test, the mind is constantly occupied by a highly engaging tasks, so it cant put itself on autopilot, so the awareness is as it is heightened , more so because of adrenaline..
please elaborate on the benefits of these techniques as i would love to adopt them if they have some real benefit.

but since we have a very capable mind it sets easy tasks on autopilot (just when u have been driving the last 10 miles but dont remember doing so), The thoughts start creeping in after a few breaths, because the actions of the task have been easily understood and we can perform them on autopilot., so the mind begins a second task and begins wandering.

it is scientifically proven that when we think vocal thoughts or read, or larynx moves.
so in a way our reading speed is limited by the movement of our larynx. this is also y if you wish to improve your reading speed it is advisable that you "hum" so that you develop a habit of reading with moving the larynx.
I think the significance of thinking the sounds is the same as it assigns a task to the mind, so it would not be able to think of other thoughts, its like creating a diversion.

i have started meditating recently, though i have been in touch with a few knowledge able who have been doing so for years and are qualified yoga practitioners. They have all told me that they have themselves many so called "enlightened men" and non has been able to prove the veracity of the chakras.
Look at symmetrical figures and soothing music is not even close to the real thing. this just give us false experience of the real phenomenon. if anzyone one has any info please reply.

He also told the Baba ji is thousands of years old and is still doing sadhana in some part of india. Babaji is just one saint in the great vaidic tradition of saints , god only knows for how long yoga has been around.

yes, this soham (I am GOD) meditation can help in stress, axiety, health problems but have not spiritual value, so as it is, it is not selfrealization... better maditate ahambra masmi (I'am spirit soul... but not supreme!), however good luck and I wish you good health and no stress :-), haribol!

So hum is also same as Hamsa (So and Hum in reverse) or Hong Sau meditation. Very powerful.

Can you lean against something when you meditate? Its funny, I go around all day with no problems, and can sit for ages quite still too, but as soon as i meditate i get neck ache. Any Ideas?

@BradBrassman You absolutely can! I like to sit in a chair when I meditate, but you can have a cushion and meditate against a wall or padded surface.

Hi. I've decided to start meditation as i have depression and anxiety. Idon't really want to take anti-depressant drugs like prozac as they have side effects so mediation seemed like a good idea.
I found that doing this mantra relaxed me but i for the rest of the day i was in a very strange mood. I wasn't exactly depressed but i just felt empty and confused. If i keep doing this will i become happy or is it just making the mater worse.
Any help would be great thanks.

Hi there.
Try this meditation for a month and see. As with any natural solutions - the results are not instantaneous so give it a try.
Also start with 10 minutes and gradually build up to 20 minutes.

Hope things are going well for you. It is not unusual, in fact it would be unusual for all hell to not mentally brake loose. In the first month or so... Let me assure you that it is natural and a sign that things are taking a turn for the better. Most people don't realize that they are standing in a bucket of **** until they start meditating.

Also, perhaps the feeling you were having was simply because it is new and unusual for you. The reason being that us humans have a habit of thinking we need to "hold onto things" instead of letting nature take its course... Initially letting go can feel unusual as it is new to you. @ClaudeMcBanister you might want to see your doctor, you may have a low level of seratonin which can easily be treated with the help of mild anti-depressants along with therapy, conscious living including mediation. All have helped me tremendously live with Depression.

@ClaudeMcBanister : Make sure you stay away from alcohol. Alcohol - even one drink - causes depression, and anxiety. That may not be your problem, but I just thought I'd mention it for others. Alcohol causes depression. I'd give up all anti-depressants. A true anti-depressant has NO side effects. I'd switch to something like marijuana while coming off the pills - it's been in the Chinese pharmocopaeia for over 4,000 years.

Keep at it! I had bad anxiety and depression and turned to yoga and meditation. It's not easy in the beginning but it's somethign you have to work at. I've been doing it atleast once everyday for the past 6 months and I'm telling you it really opens up your mind and smooths out any inner edginess. Meditation is something I can't live without now

@ClaudeMcBanister Hi, In order to get benefit from Med., You must believe it is just for you. It will help you to cure your depression. Med. is nothing but just a process to going to your real self. Meditation is not magic or it won't create any miracle for you. But, It will help you to cure all suffering and will give you the understanding of Life.So, No mater how you feel, You must do meditation for 10-30 mins a day at once. You won't need teacher to do meditation, You are your own teacher.

@ClaudeMcBanister Hey there claude, I originally started yoga and meditation to deal with depression because I was getting worse on anti-depressants 10 yrs ago. It was the most beneficial step I have taken in my life. I am now a yogi and am a ray of sunshine to all who come into my life. You can do it easily, and the benefits you will definitely see in a short time.
I have full faith in you there is a power within you capable of anything.

@ClaudeMcBanister You need to make sure you do absolutely nothing for 5 to 10 minutes after your meditation. If you meditate and then jump right back into daily life, your mental energy will be all out of wack. Also look up some grounding exercises. In a mental sense, meditation elevates your mind, but you should not leave it up there and go about the day, there are very specific grounding exercises you can do after meditation. Hope that helps.

To download a day's stress I normally mediate in the evening when I can clean and ease my mind and body, then enjoy a good night sleep. Also meditation in the early morning, that give me a lot of pure energy to perform in the day. "Letting Go" is important during the meditation, let go those images or thoughts you have during the meditation. Free your mind and body. Can try head massage afterwards to stimulate your energy flow. Mei Lan.

Thank you for asking. I'm not going to lie but i'm awful. I dont think i have depression. I think it is depersonalisation/derealisation. Meditation probably will help, but ive read that it can cause depersonalization in some people. Im kind of stuck in this spiritual/philisophical rut where i question everything and i believe that ultimately my existence is pointless. Literally everything i experience i question it and its really really horrible. I appreciate your concern though.

@ClaudeMcBanister meditation works like homeopathy, even at a slower pace. You never realize when you improved and how much you have improved. What you are experiencing is just temporary and you would start feeling same or less depressed after a few days. it takes 3-6 months for meditation to transform you. TIP: do not eat non vegetarian food, fast food, alcohol, and nicotine etc. talk less and ave lots of water. do pranayam before meditation. it is must. for more deatils feel free to contact.

really awesome! i tried while the video was playing and almost instantly felt very relaxed. i also lost track of time and when i opened my eyes again i had no idea how much time had passed (the clock showed 7 minutes though). Even now a while after i stopped i feel affected of the meditation. will be doing this daily from now on!

A question! I have taught myself a relaxation technique to fall asleep at night which I have used for many years. I lie on my back, hands crossed over my chest, focus on darkness and my breathing my only thoughts are of heavy arms and legs, pushing into the bed, then I can feel it begin. I seem to enter a place between awake and sleep I can stay there or fall asleep. Is this mediation or something else? Should I be using this type of technique or have I taught myself some bad skills?
