Those who were growing up in the 70's and early 80's know Peter Gabriel is the real deal and doesn't need validation from anyone least of all, music critics who can't pull their collective tongues out of each other's arses long enough to feel his lyrical poetry sweep over them and lift their souls to a higher plane.
@taralicious You sound as pretentious as he is. I grew up in the late 70s and early 80s and thank fuck I had Public Enemy to piss all over that hippy/pop nonsense. Gabriel is many things but talented is not one of them. Neither before his time,of his time or behind it. He'll never be 'cool' or rediscovered. Total waste of time. Made to be laughed at by schoolkids at how crap Sledgehammer video is. He loves himself and has loads of idiots that do to and that's all that matters. Isn't it?
@SpireaXY Your wrong , Yes Gabriel went the way of most old rockers and went for easy pop money later in life , but still he did creative things along the way , But way back when times were young he was just simply brilliant , The orchestration he did in early Genesis was awesome and he didn't slap together cinche 2 minute songs , they were excellent well thought out stories and themes with just brilliant musicians. But time changes all. Still their is some greatness left over in his works.
This man is an absolute genius. He continues to give truly outstanding performances which sound just as good - if not better - than they did 30 years ago. Oh, and SpireaXY, Peter holds the record for the most VMAs won in a single night for 'Sledgehammer'. But of course if you think it's shit, it really must be shit because you're the be all and end all of music critics.
@Nightmareb4Chrimbo Firstly, he's pretty far from genius. Totally overrated. Secondly, I'm a brilliant music critic. I have no idea what I'm talking about, I have massive tits that will definitely cause me back problems in later life, facial hair and extremely rich parents. I haven't won a VMA, Daddy hasn't paid for it yet.
What an excellent performance by a very talented musician, writer and humanitarian.
Some of the comments below reflect more on the anger and bitterness of the individual writing it than on Peter Gabriel's ability. One can only feel sorry for the poor chap.
Well done PG. You are happy, creative, successful, wealthy and a man with a kind heart. If only the vitriolic critics below could bury their envy they could maybe enjoy your talents!
@Waddowarrior Creative, successful, wealthy or indeed a man, are probably not words that have ever been used to describe you. Patronising, fat, stupid, no music taste whatsoever? They have been used, I'm sure.
Your really poor use of verbs, pretentious prose and spacing out your shit meaningless sentences to look like paragraphs is a sum of the man, or woman, either way you're wrong. You're a dick and Gabriel is a washed up piece of shit. P.s Stop pretending to be smart. You are not.
@Waddowarrior You call him PG! That's so touching! Thanks for letting me know he is a writer, I'm getting straight onto Amazon to find his books. I'm so bored with all the Russian literature, American Beat writing, comic books that deal with real life like Pekar, Crumb, Brown, Seth etc. Can't wait to read what Gabriel has to say! What is his book called, sorry, books? I bet he has a lot to say!
@Waddowarrior I find you extremely dull and tedious, so to find me dull is amazing actually! Thanks! I wish you well and hope you enjoy the last of the fine weather, wandering around in your slacks, feeding the ducks brioche while listening to Phil Collins's life story on your Sony Walkman. Remember to pack extra batteries this time! Dohhh etc....

Just watched this on the iplayer. Perfect that the show is a tribute to Dawn French, a tribute to a talentless fat bastard opened by one. Where's the songs he's been working on for 12 years? A fat twat waving his hands about like xfactor with an enormous orchestra that could have been done on pro-tools sounding like something of the Lion King soundtrack? Statistically sound. Genisis were shit and all of the members solo shit is shit. Phew. There is order in the Universe.
@SpireaXY maybe a fatwat, but he is a talented one at that, and order in the universe? yes, you just placed yourself down there with the pond life. Suggest you go and watch TwatFactor .
@seansgirlthesequel Pond life? TwatFactor? Great tag lines. You'll be a Heat reader then? You didn't come up with Trip Hop did you? What is he talented for exactly? Is it that plasticene video he did 30 years ago with the Hughie Lewis And The News soundtrack? That was shit. I remember seeing it when I was 8 or 9 and cringing. Awful. Overrated fat fuck. Cool stupid little beard and brilliant clothes though. He looked amazing. Does anyone know where he gets his slippers from?
@SpireaXY Ha ha ha ha don't insult me HEAT? what a load of toss. The plasticine video? I think you refer to Sledgehammer? Which won numerous awards in 1987 (MTV and Britawards). If you were that young though, it just must be an age thing.
@SpireaXY if you're wondering where his songs are they are out on CD now, just released. Also, he wanted to do something unique and different by using a real orchestra, not using pro-tools, and you know what? it sounds fantastic
@loveMusiqueMJ Not unique to use a live orchestra, is it? Failed fucks do it to make themselves look deep. Doesn't work. Gabriel should just get back together with Huey Lewis. The News were awesome! Huey Lewis and the News, with Gabriel back on board, Jim Kerr naked and pole dancing with The Edge taking his hat off and then putting it back on again, for three hours! AWESOME!
I really really really recognise the violinist in the front row that the camera focuses on numerous times throughout the performance. Middle-aged man with curly grey hair, my mind keeps saying it's Guy Chambers but I don't think it is. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks Mr Jim Kerr for alerting us to this. Peter Gabriel's voice is still as magic as it was in the 70s and what a great performance this is with that superb orchestra. Wonderful!
@SJGibbons1000 hes the frontman of the scottish rock band "Simple Minds". They got popular during the 80s...he showed this link on the official facebook fanpage of SM...
@bgisger Simple Minds are shit too. Don't try to like them. Many have tried and have been birched, and quite rightly so. Pretentious and overblown rubbish. Their early stuff is shit too! I would pay to see Jim Kerr though, he actually looks like a pineapple.
@bgisger How you can respect this nutcase opinion? Did you read his comment? Hes just sad little human, without any talent or friends. Hes looking through the internet to throw some of his hate somewhere, coz he has nothing better to do. Respond to this kind of sad people only make them feel they are needed...
Man, he still sounds so good. Hardly any change in his voice.
