  • Jeez-what this must have been like.

  • Why do all these onions keep showing up in my house? One of the best scenes I've ever seen.

  • John Basilone is my hero Ooh-Rah

  • Rest easy Brother. 12/5.

  • She never remarried...that's a true love story...a real proof of love :')

  • This is a very touching, emotional, and difficult scene to watch. I have the highest respect for John Basilone and his wife Lena.

  • my grandpa knew john basilone and fought wth him man in the movie pacific is very tpuching about john i cried so many times and him out og every one had to die (tear)

  • God Bless the Marine Corp!.. Sad no one in this day and age has morales or anything for that matter! Im 17 i am enlisting for the Marine Corp in a month.. but i look at my friends all they do is smoke and drink there 16 to 18.. Things have changed some time's i Wish the World would come to the realization that unless we start growing up and stop acting childish this world will be lost..

  • @Iskate1zEro hate to shatter your fantasy dude. Maybe it passed over your head the Marine Corp & US have been almost similtanously at war in two different conflicts continuously since Oct 2001' & 2003' Afghanistan & Iraq respectively. Thats over 10 yrs of wars. Instead of bashing people you don't know for a subject you show surprising ingnorance of for not living up to your fantasy. get your DD-214 and shut up.

  • @Iskate1zEro "i Wish the World would come to the realization that unless we start growing up and stop acting childish this world will be lost.." That is so ironic coming from you.

  • @dougpowers2 Lol ironic? Ha dink

  • did she fuck with george ?

  • sad

  • do those maggots walk all day everyday in their uniform when there not even at duty?? lol

  • @ITALOVER2 Good comment allthough god has nothing to do with heroes, honor and a decent person.

  • @ITALOVER2 Im not going to get into a bitter argument with you. However you did say "this generation" which sums up this generation of soldiers, which i pointed out. Also a friendly suggestion, when trying to inform someone on getting a 'better education' make sure your grammer and such is pin point perfect; because right now you look retarded. One more thing, you had cap locks on, just sayin....

  • @ITALOVER2 you sir are also brainwashed. you think war is glorious, whilst it is just a huge bloodbath. war is always terrible and has never helped anyone. remember the fallen soldiers and honor them that is what they deserve. but dont paint a big glorious picture after seeing wwII movies. its just not worth it

  • I aint got nothing to whine about. Or nothing to cry about. These men gave their lives for us. My heartfelt thanks to all of 'em! Every damn one of 'em!

  • In World War II, the parents are the beneficary of the $10,000 then spouse. Same with MOH goes to parents then spouse.

  • this might sound girly but i knida tear up when she broke the news it sad to tell a familt using the medal of honor

it the worst way to break it to a family but also the best way

  • @steventheasiansquiny lol they already knew he was dead. what the fuck have you been smokeing

  • also ich musste weinen

  • hm. one of the only few scenes in any media I've seen that made me cry.

  • My grandfather was a 1st Lieutenant in the 766th Tractor Tank Battalion that sieged Okinawa. He was a tank commander. I've always wanted to know more about it, but he would never speak of it. I'm sure that was common, but watching this show always reminded me of what he had to go through.

  • semper fi

  • I know how the Basilone's feel, I lost my older brother to a war (Aghanistan) it was hard because he was really my role model because my dad died and there was me my brother and my mum. When he died i just cried for days and days that was 3 years ago, I still cry myself to sleep.

  • @aaronharms123456 She's right, liberals are a cancer. But this is about John Basilone, not liberals, etc. Bring your bleeding heart somewhere else if you can't say something nice.

  • i am 14 and @ITALOVER2 your statement of non honor doesnt apply to me and i garuntee it. I plan to be an Officer in the USMC and either hope to die naturally or on the frontlines by the mercy of God and the bullet. I will not say I am going to get the Medal of Honor but even if it did not exist I always put the man next to me before I. I know this sounds like I dont know anything and maybe I don't, but I will die to send another home if I have to.

  • my dad is in the Marines hes a Major hes the best dad in the world he always defends us from anyone and anything hes always the best and these ppl r like my grandparents speaking italian and everything im from NY but Conn now im italian and ik we make good marines

  • My pop was in the Marines and served in Korea. He's hardly ever talked about it, but I do remember him referring to the "Old Corps."

I don't agree with barmtrail that ex-Marines make good fathers. Maybe good drill sargeants, but not good fathers--there is (or should be) a difference. My dad tried all that "discipline" shit on me. I still to this day don't understand how ripping someone's balls off and serving them back to ya on plate is supposed to help a person.

  • My Dad was on Iwo as well. Tomorrow will be the 66th anniversary 2/19/11. Dad was in the 4th Marine Div, and was wounded the first day, but kept fighting and he later received the Purple Heart. Dad died 11/4/10, at the age of 86 but some of him died 66 years ago. Rest well Dad with all your brothers who fought by your side 66 years ago. Semper Fi.

  • @addams5

    Ooh-Rah

  • hey hey hey..... easy with the talk about this generation...im part of it and right now...within the next few weeks ( cant tell you exact date, or else, well, im fucked lol) i leave on deployment in the us navy but yes we have all these electronics and all but still i know people who have died to fight whatever people want to call this war, yes the generation outside this military of ours, is royally fucked, but the people in the middle,

  • @gglax19 understand its roots what our brothers of the past have done for us, and know what we must do to keep them alive in our future brothers minds, but yes if i had to pick a war to be in WW2 aboard the big E wouldve been what i wanted but instead i was born 55 years later....

  • everyone's fathers and husbands in WWII died to give us a new life. Even the japs and germans. No one should deny it cause every husband and father only wants the best for their loved ones, nothing more.

  • My Pop was in the 3rd Mardiv. He just thanked God he got out alive.

  • lives on the line so i can grow up in an environment to sell drugs or kill kids in a drive by, that kind of shit is destroying us. There is more to life than gang banging or sitting at home playing on your PS3 or Xbox......

    Grow the fuck up.....

  • @LuiB13 Amen. When I got back from Iraq, I went to a University to visit friends. I was so disgusted by how those kids behaved and treated me and my fellow Infantry vets that it has become a serious sour taste in my mouth for college. Now, I'm out. I have medical retirement, and I have to use that GI Bill. It is going to suck. It won't be easy. But if I learned anything, it's how to put your fear, disgust and opinions aside and drive on for the greater good. I will always have honor.

  • today's youth is brainwashed with gang banging, and some are just fucking spoiled and don't have any respect for their elders, but they act like they got a dick in their ass when they loose a game on Call of duty, these little fuckers pay more attention to technology than they do with life outside their house. I use to throw up gang signs and get into fights all the time, but i woke up one day because i realized that men like Sgt Basilone and anybody else in the service aren't putting their

  • @ITALOVER2 You clearly know of nothing, shut up old man. These 'kids' today, fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq are jumping on grenades for each other! What are you rambling on about having no honor, family? Sorry but FUCK YOU! and the 4 people that gave you a thumbs up, because it wasn't deserved. On a lighter note, thanks to every soldier who fought WW2, no matter what side you fought for! R.I.P

  • Tough job being John Basilone's little brother.

  • I'm 17, and I love military history from all aspects; I admire those who served in any war. But those I admire the most is those of World War 2; they had their lives interrupted in a awful and unexpected manner and yet they still marched on, some to death, some to victory, but all marched to glory and immortality in my eyes. But when we are watching a documentry in History class and I see my fellow Juniors not interested or even laughing I become disgusted and unconfident in my generation...

  • @ITALOVER2 my heroes are those that fought for our country fought for us for for thier friends, family and complete strangers and those that still fight for these things they are true heroes...not all of the newer generation has forgotten the past

those those who do learn the past are doomed to relive it

  • @ITALOVER2 i am a member of the newer generation me being only 22 i have much to learn but my heroes are my brother, and both my grandfathers whom fought in ww2 in two completely different theatres of war, my brother died in iraq in the USMC from a roadside IED, my first grandfather fought on Omaha Beach June 6th 1944, and survived the campaign, my 2nd grandfather fought in the pacific theatre landing on iwo jima and okinawa and surviving the war

  • @ITALOVER2 american immigration owes a pass to Italians ... John Basilone

  • My father fought in the south pacific. 9th regiment 3rd marine division. We are a different people today this is for sure. I was raised by a world war 2 marine, and let me tell you that todays america is in deep trouble. My father made me take out the trash, wash his car and jump when he said, "Move"! He was the best father there was, NO B/S. Today our peope walk on eggshells and the P/C crowd is tearing this country apart! Liberals are like a cancer. GOD bLESS men like Basilone and my father.

  • @barmtrail WTF are you on about? Liberals a cancer?! LOL. OMG You had better look around with that abused head of yours. You had better look at ALL the politicians. You think Conservatives these days have the best interest of this country in mind? Oh man...you have stupid baaad. This country is dying and it's not just the Liberals fault. You better start growing some common sense double time.

  • @barmtrail and conservatives are any better? wern't they the ones who got us into a war in iraq on lies? Oh and yes, its not about liberals or conservatives, its just the way american youth are today, its just a different era its not about liberals at all!

  • @barmtrail what do you expect? I respect what those men did for us but there isn't anything major happening right now. Non desperate times call for non desperate measures.

  • @barmtrail Crazy parents scared of their own children! My dad was in World War II as well He served with the 761st Tank Battalion in Europe. his generation believed in firm discipline and manliness. I took out the trash too! And got my behind spanked when I was boy if I did wrong. I joined the Marine Corps delayed entry at 17 years old. Back in the early 80s we wanted to be men and wanted a challenge!

  • @gjohnsoningary Your dad served in the 761st? Man, that's awesome-those guys are the true unsung heroes of WW2. It would be nice if Hollywood would make a movie about them.

  • @wilb6657 There are books and documentaries but no feature film. It was supposed to have been filmed about seven years ago but the script was shelved. I check up from time to time to see about changes.

  • @gjohnsoningary The script was shelved? That sucks, man. Oh well, we can only hope.

  • @wilb6657 Yeah, the screen writer for Remember the Titans had a script called Baptism in Fire about the 761st but all of a sudden you can't find it anywhere! 761st is the stuff of legend. Folks need to know about what they did in World War II.

  • @gjohnsoningary I agree wholeheartedly. The men of the 761st performed as bravely as any Easy company paratrooper or US marine on the battlefield. However, unlike the US marine and the Easy company paratrooper, they had to deal with racism and segregation at home!

  • @wilb6657 I'm glad that you mentioned that because alot of people don't want to deal with the fact the US military was segregated during World War II and America as a whole was overtly racist! For years David J Williams, one of the white company commanders with the 761st tried to get Sergeant Reuben Rivers awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in November 1944 that got him killed. He finally got the medal when Clinton was in office.

  • @gjohnsoningary Man, ain't racism something? I'm sure you know about this, but I read that after the 761ST. had taken a town, the news crews would roll right past them and photograph the white soldiers, and then say that THEY took the town. My grandfather fought in the Pacific during WW2. He even saw combat. It's a shame you never hear about black soldiers in the Pacific. Some black marines even helped stop the final Japanese banzai charge on Iwo Jima.

  • @wilb6657 I was watching this presentation here on youtube about Black servicemen in World War II. Well one of them was a Montford Point US Marine. He described his war experiences and said his company participated in the landings at Peleliu in 1944. They lost over half in the men in the company. Now these Black Marines weren't even designated for the infantry but they had heavy casualties. This means that Peleliu was one hell of a battle and that Black servicemen saw alot of combat.

  • @gjohnsoningary Wow....black troops were involved in Peleliu as well? You won't EVER find even a mention of them in any book. Going by the "official" history of WW2, you'd think the Tuskegee airmen were the only black people to do ANYTHING at all during WW2. I think Spike Lee had a point-not when he went after Clint specifically, but when he went after Hollywood's portrayal of African-Americans during WW2.

  • @wilb6657 Very few war films about the Black soldiers, sailors, marines and other servicemen of color during WW2. Spike Lee did make Miracle At St Anna. In truth, I think he could''ve done alot better with the movie. They portray Black soldiers as tokens in war films like the Dirty Dozen, Force Ten From Navarone and others but not portraying whole units fighting the Germans or Japanese.

  • @gjohnsoningary Yeah...I saw "Miracle" and was disappointed by it. I thought Spike made the black soldiers look like bumbling, stereotypical fools. Especially the big soldier.

  • @wilb6657 I was too! The movie could've been so much better! I honestly believe that the story of my father's unit the 761st tank Battalion would be done justice if he didn't touch it! The movie had so much potential but he didn't do the story justice nor the novel of which it's based on.

  • @wilb6657 Its not some kind of massive intentional snub ... due to segregation the number of black troops involved were very small in the grand scheme of things. Thats not a knock against them as it wasn't their choice , but it just explains why you don't see that listed or included in a lot of history .... as unless you are reading a book on the entire subject you normally have the marginalized and smaller elements of a story shaved off. I would rather that, than some kind of obvious plug

  • @lonewulf44 I understand the basic point of what you're saying-but it would be nice for the experiences of these forgotten black soldiers to at least be MENTIONED. I mean, you would NEVER EVEN KNOW that black people fought at Peleliu. And that's wrong-that story needs to be told. It's like I said above-the average American ONLY knows about the Tuskegee Airmen, when it comes to blacks during WW2. And there was so much more to the story. And that needs to be told.

  • @wilb6657

Sounds like you have a book to write.

  • @CSATexan Lol, sounds like....

  • @wilb6657

Put the stories together while that generation is still here to tell their side of the story. Wars are not just about shooting and blowing things up.

Supplies, equipment logistics in general are what makes an army

Gen Patton once said, " One of the bravest men I ever saw was on top of a telegraph pole in the midst of furious fire "Fixing the wire"

  • @barmtrail Hell yeah well said Gunny.

  • @barmtrail your father sinked in this penis into your little butt when you were 8, admit it

  • @barmtrail Amen.

  • @barmtrail YOU ARE 100 PERCENT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU !

  • @barmtrail my grandfather told me that the u.s. army had it just as worse as the marines he was in the army air corp he mostly fought on the ground at guadalcanal solomon islands tarawa philipenes new guenia and bombed iwo jima okinaowa and germany facing german kamakazies he went in with the marines and was stuck on guadalcanal for i think like 2 months or weeks cant remember he is a great man

  • @barmtrail this country is just like it always was and your just get getting older. pls spare us your regurgitated rant about todays youth. take a nap & have somebody change your depends.

  • @barmtrail Yes,well said. Oh and when you see your father, tell him thanks for what he did. My father was in the war state side and uncle was in the south pacific.

  • @barmtrail You had me until you started bashing liberals for some reason.

  • Please, tell me where I can find this series, I am from neighboring town, Bound Brook, NJ and have not heard anything about this. Basilone was a true hero and being 2nd generation Italian finding this was a blessing, I would love to see the entire series, please, tell me where, when and how!

  • @Nick7676BB I believe that you can find the episodes online, or you can purchase the series through most any store that sells movies (amazon, B&N, Borders)

  • I am apart of the 1% that makes up America's military. I still have my Honor..for myself.. and for my Country.

  • @ITALOVER2 I could not of worded it better myself. Thanks.

  • @ITALOVER2 I am SO glad there is someone else who understands what's wrong with today's youth!

  • @ITALOVER2 I know what you are talking about, brother. In this current generation of cowards, our country cant survive and it makes me very sad.

  • how could there only four comments about a scene, where a family is struggling to be brave after such a terrible blow.not to mention a second son going into the lions mouth. also, lena was truly a marine. now her and her beloved john can be together.god love them both!

  • Sgt. Lena Basilone never remarried and died in 1999.

  • The woman who plays John's mother in this scene is a briliant actress. The pain in her face from the moment she opens the door... what a great scene!

  • What a love story....man talk abouit special

  • Heartbreaking....just a brilliant series....me and my girlfriend cried for a long time watching this...and we also got to learn a lot about people we had never even heard of before....and now they have a special place in our hearts.

  • @djho6 you both are now blessed, for opening your hearts and minds to your brothers and sisters pain!
