I just recently bought a Glen Burton LP copy (like a LP Studio minus the pickguard, whatever that make is called) and I have to disagree about Epiphones being the best copies! I have not played an Epiphone anywhere near as good, and I've tried out dozens of them. I'm a big fan of GB guitars now; it's a great quality guitar at budget price. Stays in tune for days, awesome tones! Also; this guitar weighs the same as a LP, I have checked it against an actual LP. It's thick like a deep dish pizza!
its very cheap like between 200 and 400 but its not too good quality and yea its soft wood i have one i got for 250, its not very good but its a step up from my knock off fender strat
It looks like a les paul but sounds nothing like a les paul. It sounds very bright, more like a strat or tele. I don't know how cheap it is but if you want a bright clean sound Squier seems a better low budget choice.
this guitar looks ok. but through my years of playin guitar, i would say if you are goin for a copy go for the stagg lp. but if you really want to get your money worth get a gibson or simpley a epiphone
The fact that he keeps on saying "This is a great begginer's guitar" over and over again completely KILLED his chances of me buying thins thing. A tip brother, someone buying a Les Paul copy needs VERY good reasons to pick your copy over the les paul studio or it's Epiphone relatives, and this video did nothing for that to happen
jay tursers have the best lp copy for the 150-300 price range, i have one, and ppl are always asking if its a gibson and i paid 200 for it. its extremely versatile, the treble pickup sounds like a twangy sg, and the rythm pickup is a little muddy, but still vry deep, so its great if its ur only guitar, and u need alot of diff sounds from one guitar
thats YOUR opinion. every once in a while you will find an expensive guitar that has some defects. just because you played one epi that wasn't that good doesn't mean jay turser is the best.
haha ive played dozens of epi's, and theyre all prty good, but just saying, if i could spend 200 on a guitar that sounds, plays, and looks just as good as somthing 3-4X as good, or pay 800 for somthing just cause it says les paul on it
well, to get a decent one, u have to spend at least like 500, and i said the one i could find that was as good as mine was like 800...yes, u can get an lp junior for 100, but most of the time, theyre rly pieces of crap, once in awhile ull find a good cheap epi, but most of the time u still have to spend alot
dude, i know what you mean about the epi les paul, when i first went to my store it sounded crap but after a couple of hours of playing it all corrects itself if you get what i mean. i'd never get any other copy les paul apart from epiphone and maybe gordon smith but that's just me.
epiphone sucks, i played a les paul custom at the local shop, it sounded like shit, the sustain sucked, it did not stay in tune, and it just wasn't comfortable, i have a harley benton les paul that i got for just under 100 bucks and it was ten times better than an epiphone.
according to me the best les paul ''copy'' and i use that term losely is the hagström swede
no, i tried three of them, they all sucked just as much, and the money you pay for a les paul custom is even more than a gibson les paul studio (wich is a great guitar btw)
@JayLacelle Try the Rally GL300 or if you want a copy of the les Paul Supreme then check out Rally GL 450 it's cheaper than the Epiphone but it sounds better than the standard epiphone les paul. Try googling it It's good and very affordable: Singapore $349 for a 98% Gibson les Paul. The 2% would be the look, it has a sharp cutaway
@JayLacelle Vintage by john hornsby is the best... own it and played lots of epiphone....vintage is better then all of em accept those higher priced epis
@JayLacelle You should try the Agile copies. They are DAMN good. Make sure to get the 3000+ series though. I have a 3100 CSB and if there is is a better playing epiphone I haven't found it yet.
Don't know the original question, but as an owner of an Agile Al-3000 I can assure you that any Agile 2500 or 3000 will flat-out KILL, SLAY, MAIM, DISTORT, AND BURY any epiphone. Period. The bonus is you don't have to break their F'n neck and have it repaired to play right . . . .
@varmintslayer63 You're right! Epiphones are okay but there are so many "off" brands that play better than them. I when I got my Stellar LP copy, I sold my Epi the next day. Then I threw in a couple of Retrotrons and that guitar is better than anything I've ever owned!
I'm not sure what you mean but I guess it's bolt on. I mean I don't see any screws on the neck indicating so. I hoped that helped. Also I changed the strings when I got it.
oh ya, it is lighter than a les paul because it is made of cardboard, and parents, don't waste your hard earned dollar on this POS for your kid, get them a real guitar made of real wood. guitars like this are the reason kids give up after 2 months, cuz they don't know what a real guitar sounds and feels like... just my 2 cents yo
LOL I have a tokai LS135 and I can garantee in spite of being cheaper than gibson is not a cheap model and is made in japan you can check out some videos here on youtube and gibson tries to take these off the market because people prefer cheaper models but it can be as good if not better than the original les paul
Sounds muddy with no presence. Maybe just a bad Utube recording, but this is not an impressive sound, even for $200. No punch, no life to the sound; just mud. If you want a low cost guitar get a used Paul Reed Smith SE on eBay for about $400 or sometimes less. Those are made in Korea with a reputable name brand.
You're probably right... hard to say without having it in your hands.... but 199 dollars !!!! Really for that price unless it feels like a complete POS and stays in tune then I say go for it...... the problem is that a beginner wouldn't really know that a guitar is a POS ..... I've been playing for years and still can't tell when a bad feel is due to the guitar or a bad set-up.....
why does this comment thread make it look like there are only two reasonable choices in solidbody, gibson or gibson knockoff
having briefly played a few high-end guitars, i think my next big buy will be a PRS custom 22, imo they're just more appealing to the senses all-round.
When a company can take a classic design and make it more affordable it gives the dinosaur companies the competition they deserve. Gibson charges an insane amount for their instruments, and the money doesn't go into the electronics or fretwork past a certain price, the extra hundreds of dollars they charge go to stupid things like five-ply binding or a certain expensive finish. If a competitor makes a cheaper version of their guitar, the original company must lower their price.
I can see you now...on stage...grinning from ear to ear thinking about the money you saved buying a Chinese guitar...You're the same person who tries to convince me your "metric cruiser" is better than my Harley Davidson...if I have to explain it to you...you wouldn't understand...
How many factories exactly have any American companies had to shut down since Glen Burton released this guitar? If anything, competition keeps the American companies stronger by encouraging them to make better instruments. That's just capitalism.
If you don't have anything useful to say, just stay off the comments page.
This guitar is a very good student model, and I wish I had known about them when I started playing.
You have asserted that expensive, American-manufactured instruments are superior, but offer no actual argument and instead offer condescention (If I have to explain it...) so don't try to push that elitist bullshit.
I'm not going to read anything else you write, so you can stop now.
Wow that guitar is just another copy. Its so bassy and muddy. If you don't have enough for a gibson then buy epiphone and if you're a bit more experianced and looking for a better tone definatley upgrade the pups.
I have a 97 LP DC CHambered and it weighs in at 6lbs, and i have a 91's LP Custom that weighs in at 21lbs.
...the two have electronics that are SO different that you'd swear the DC was a tele. ....Piezo bridge, a coil Tap on both pu, a phase switche on combined sound and it makes a whole new world of sound
the epi is probably decently better, probably has a little better quality control, and better hardware/electronics.Though if it was me,Id just save up for ever and get a gibson, cause everything is just a knock off.Its like buying a car with a body like a ferrari and a honda motor and go kart chassis, its not the same.
It's affordable for the people who can't afford an expensive guitar. It looks darn good, so forget about getting upset because it isn't a Gibson. My Gibson guitars rarely leave their cases, because too many people want to grab them and start playing them.
Makes me wonder...if the people who buy this guitar also drive Kia's...and wonder what happened to USA company's like GM and Chrysler and Gibson and the jobs lost in this country...
america is not the only part of the world !! why would anyone want to pay 3000 for the same guitar you could pay 200 for just because a cowboy built it ?
i didn't realize this isn't an epi or gibson, but what I said about versatility and knowing "what sounds good to you" still hold true. someone could hear a guitar and think it sounds like crap, and someone else could think it has amazing tone.
I know exactly what you mean dude, as Epis aren't exact cheaper copys, the have a few features that make them there own, not to mention the headstock shape.
This guy is a great presenter. Knows his stuff. I've never heard of the Glen Burton Les Paul. I'll definitely check them out in more detail after seeing this.

If you don't have enough for a gibson then buy epiphone and if you're a bit more experianced and looking for a better tone definatley upgrade the pups.
joshjosh182 2 years ago
its only muddy because of the distortion pedal he is using

THe weight statement is all wrong.
LP come in a bunch of different WEIGHTS
I have a 97 LP DC CHambered and it weighs in at 6lbs, and i have a 91's LP Custom that weighs in at 21lbs.
...the two have electronics that are SO different that you'd swear the DC was a tele. ....Piezo bridge, a coil Tap on both pu, a phase switche on combined sound and it makes a whole new world of sound

Does anyone know if this guitar is better than the Epiphone Les Paul Studio?
MrRockNRole 2 years ago
the epi is probably decently better, probably has a little better quality control, and better hardware/electronics.Though if it was me,Id just save up for ever and get a gibson, cause everything is just a knock off.Its like buying a car with a body like a ferrari and a honda motor and go kart chassis, its not the same.

It's affordable for the people who can't afford an expensive guitar. It looks darn good, so forget about getting upset because it isn't a Gibson. My Gibson guitars rarely leave their cases, because too many people want to grab them and start playing them.

Makes me wonder...if the people who buy this guitar also drive Kia's...and wonder what happened to USA company's like GM and Chrysler and Gibson and the jobs lost in this country...

america is not the only part of the world !! why would anyone want to pay 3000 for the same guitar you could pay 200 for just because a cowboy built it ?

how can it be a les paul copy if it is made of ash? same shape, way different guitar. sorry.
JKryanX 2 years ago
guitars, especially the les paul, are versatile. listen to it and be the judge.
azm1987 2 years ago
i didn't realize this isn't an epi or gibson, but what I said about versatility and knowing "what sounds good to you" still hold true. someone could hear a guitar and think it sounds like crap, and someone else could think it has amazing tone.

love the new guy . 5 stars

I know exactly what you mean dude, as Epis aren't exact cheaper copys, the have a few features that make them there own, not to mention the headstock shape.

Isn't this more of an Epiphone Les Paul copy?
staciamber 2 years ago
Glen Burton, its in the title and he says it twenty times, read the headstock.
Fooglewasp 2 years ago
I know that. But it say it's a Gibson Les Paul copy by Glen Burton, but it looks more like an Epiphone Les Paul. =)
staciamber 2 years ago
So you wanna say its not the copy of the original, but a copy of the copy of the original XD
GeetarApprentice 2 years ago
...and Epiphone Les Pauls are designed to look like Gibsons.
Why would they make a copy of a copy guitar?
Tom123collins 2 years ago
I know that. You guys are really making me feel dumb! I know Epiphone les Pauls are designed to like Gibson. Lol
I was saying this guitar BY GLEN BURTON(I know that too!) looked more like a copy of an Epiphone copy than a Gibson! Go have a look at the title. =P
