I loved this book, I rented it from the library but have just ordered my own copy , with the same cover as yours as opposed to the american one :) I read the book in just 4 days lol, it was mesmerizing! I find it to be a slow read as you said, but fast at the same time? Erin Morgenstern has written this book beautifully, and the book is almost magical in itself. The switching of time frames keeps you suspended in time, in another world. This is a MUST READ book, a new favourite! good review btw!

I have to say i didn't feel they each tried to 'out do' the other. They made the tent 'for' each other before they even knew each other. Also it's about endurance not an actual who's better. I love this book. The design of the book itself is amazing as it reflects the content. I will be holding my own midnight dinner party. Guess the theme XD

Is it very girly-ish? I'm a dude and don't want to read about a sappy love story. Love sub-plot lines are fine, but I won't touch it if it doesn't have a substantial plot.

@xRadicalAurax Eh not completely sure how to answer that. It's not very girly but at the same time it's not manly..

Love is a subplot of the book. Not the main theme, but its still there. If you're willing to put up with a small bit of romance then I would say read it, as it is not overly lovey-dovey...

I totally agree with your review! Even though it was a slow read, I enjoyed the magic in it. And I loved that fact it takes place in in the 18-1900's!
