  • How come you "circuit benders" don't add something useful, such as pitch bend, instead of static noise?

  • adding switches and knobs to an old keyboard synthesizer like the casio SK is cool. i wish my old HT-700 was still alive i had to throw it out because it broke down years ago.

i love my CZ-101 which works great though

  • I've seen a lot of bent SK-1's... but this one is extraordinary. The layout of the toggles and pots are very clean. Also, it's noisy yes... lots of grit. But it's still melodic. I like that. Great work!

  • @KidKulit I can't really take credit for the layout since it is taken from Reed Ghazala's book, but thanks!

  • dude, best synthesizer ever! i have the original, but this is way beyond...

  • dude, best synthesizer ever! i have the original, and this is way beyond...

  • @Luisterwaar Thanks man!

  • Great sounding bends!

  • how do you actually modify the sk-1's??

  • @pinksammon91 There are hundreds of guides and "how to's" on the net. Just do a google search. What you basically do is to short contacts of the PCB.

  • OMG dude you can get so much more out of the sampler, that said. you got some very nice stuff out of it normally... nice!

  • Thanks 5k3ll3t0n45h, this is the very first try after the bends. I've had time to play more with it now. It's a great piece.

  • Does anyone know if there is a way for me to change my monophonic Casio pt-10 to make it polyphonic?

  • 1:54 WOW!!!!

  • JC I think I'm deaf!

    What is this shit?

  • wow!

  • Starts as a nice pad...

    Turns AWESOME.

  • avantgarde yeah very nice -very good for thc consumption

  • Nice performance!

  • Anyone interested in making me one of these bad boys

  • i loved the sounds in the beginning! They were kinda harmonic...

  • I just got an SK 1 today and im really interested in circuit bending. Does anyone know where i could fine some how-to's on it? Thanks!

  • Take a look at casperelectronics site, great stuff there.

  • Thanks. I'll be sure to check it out.

  • Rated 5 stars and favourited.

I just heard of the SK-1 and circuit bending today, after stumbling upon it randomly while reading something online.

I can't believe the SK-1 was made in 1985 and could make those sounds.

1:40 and on is awesome, reminds me of those old parties I once went too :)

  • I picked up a virgin sk-1 on craigslist for $40 bux today. I had never heard of these before this morning. Im gonna have alot of fun making music with mine and I dont even play keys!

  • How has it been treating you?

  • masterpiece

  • dam game ranger

  • did you only do the bends in Gazala's diagram?

  • Yes, plus the antialiasing filter bypass. I am doing another one now with an LFO. There's a lot to play with just Ghazala's bends really.

  • a time ago i heard the first time about curcuit bending...and have bought a modified sk-1 by tablebeast on e-bay for about 250 dollars + taxes (19%) + shipment to germany + another 3 or 4% for something. well they ve said nine inch nails are using the same one...please everyone say: hereiamhere75, you are an idiot!!!! no problem with the money, but 90% of the modded sk-1s here on youtube seem to be better than mine...really i´m an idiot...

  • It takes practice to get good sounds out of any circuit bent instrument. I like to use the sample feature and loop it. Now that you know it is easy to circuit bend, you can start a nice collection, right? :)

  • It does take a lot of practice. I'm thinking about buying a cheap little microkeyboard and messin with it some time. It'll have to wait though.

  • hi, i've got an SK-1 and love what you can do with it. I'm interested in altering it, so what tutorials are there on bending SK-1's.

  • I got Reed Gazala's book on Circuit Bending on Amazon but I think I once saw the diagrams online. Part of the fun is finding your own bends and the SK-1 has lots. Good luck!

  • is that better than ctk-50 ??

  • I don't have a CTK-50 so I wouldn't know. The SK-1 is a classic keyboard for circuit bending with lots of capabilities. There are lots of tutorials on bending SK-1's if you're interested in altering it.

  • Awesome.

I was just wondering which of the Reed Ghazala bends is connected to the switch that is closest to the camera. It seems to be some kind of distortion. I also notice that you omitted one of the image switches (I can only make out 8 instead of 9), Did you do this for a reason other than running out of room? or is the distortion switch actually the missing image switch?

    Thanks

  • That's the antialiasing filter bypass, it gives brithness to sound. There isn't a reason why I didn't include that image bend... I guess 8 is good enough :)

  • Thanks

One more question: Did you cut r24 or did you leave it in tact when you did the antialiasing filter bypass?

  • I left it. It sounded alright to me.

  • Nice.
