and clottey has to be one of the must underrated. i think he could take on, and beat, mayweather... but alas, it would never happen, because it's a high-risk, low-reward matchup for mayweather, and he wouldn't dare put his balls on the line like that..

plus, neither throws that many punches, so it would be too difficult to promote...

@dsrevo79 No more a joke than people expecting welterweights to fight Paul Williams. The avg WW is about 5'8 with a 70" reach. Williams has 6" height and 12 in reach. Not impressed with him fighting at 147 at all.

The difference with Pacquiao is he claims to be a legit WW champion. If you are gonna make that claim, you gotta fight the contenders at 147. Not 144.If Marg gets his license back and isn't mentally ruined from Mosley and beats down a few guys, he deserves a shot as much as Clottey

First of all, Cotto wasn't the legit WW champion. The only belts he has ever won his entire career were vacant titles against less than stellar opponents.

second, I don't have to make my own rules. The WW limit is 147. If you want to be the WW champion, fight at the limit.

And one more thing. It wasn't the boxing organizers that set the weight. It was the fighters promoters and I guarantee that if Cotto didn't have the same promoter as Manny, that fight happens at 147. Not that it would have made much difference. But if you don't get the point, you're an idiot.

It's not about him climbing to 147. It's about fighting WW and trying to force them below their natural fighting weight. He can weigh whatever he wants. I don't know more than the organizers or promoters. Just enough to know that if Cotto was promoted by someone besides Arum, that fight would have been at 147. No catch weight bullshit. But because Arum is all about protecting his prize investment, he got Cotto to agree to 145 which many people think weakened him.Something you can't seem to grasp

No. It was 145. If he weighed 155, it wouldn't be a WW title fight. The limit is 147. And yes he did allow Clottey to fight at 147. I'm proud of him. What bothers me if forcing Cotto to 145 and not fighting Mosley because Mosley, the legit WW champion, refused to fight at 143. He wanted it at 147 the weight for REAL ww champions. Roach admitted to wanting no part of Mosley at 147. He wanted him drained and weakened so Manny wouldn't get his head taken off. We'll see what happens now.

I'll give you some credit for your argument but here's the thing. If a fighter takes steroids, it helps mainly with recovery/cell regeneration. To gain strength/muscle mass, you still have to put in the work. Plastering your handwraps is simply bringing a weapon into the ring. True, they didn't prove that he actually used it in the ring. But they proved that he definitely was going to use it against Moseley if he didn't get caught.

If you watch the Margarito/Cotto fight again, the damage Cotto sustained was just not natural at all. It's pretty good, if not solid, evidence. I'm not trying to justify steroids, it's still cheating but hitting someone with hardened castes is downright lowlife. If you don't make an example of him now, the sport will compromise what little credibility is still left. Btw , what grounds do you base your argument of Pac taking roids besides Mayweathers accusations?

In the middle and later rounds, Cotto was getting caught flush with short powerful uppercuts, crosses and hooks. It's the kind of damage you get when you get hit that many times. If they fight again, same result. Cotto is shot and if Manny hurt him that bad? Why not a bigger stronger guy?

Stop making excuses for boxers of poor character. The doctor's after the fight said Cotto was bleeding from every orifice in his head, not from cuts but from internal swelling. Watch the fight over. Don't use the Pac and Clottey fight as examples since they came after the Margarito fight. Of course it's easier to get cut open when you accumulate so much scar tissue. Mosley is just a better fighter. Plaster gloves don't make your chin like iron. Mosley practically had to decapitate him to drop him. And Margarito will always have problems with guys who can move well and counter effectively. But he usually wears them down like he did Cotto. Mosley fought the perfect fight vs margarito. That's why he won.

This sort of hands up defence isnt really a good ploy against a fighter as quick as Pacquiao, he'll be throwing shots and moving to the side of clottey and his hands will be so high he won't even see where he's moved too, Floyds style of defence is far better, he can block and counter and see you at all times! Clottey is still a wonderful fighter though.
