  • Do Higher - Creed its in drop D with a really nice bridge part that -0-5-0-5-05 thing

  • iron man kinda thing

  • 7:01 RATM - Killing in the Name

  • 6:50 Spoonman minus palm muted last chords?

  • YEAH RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!

  • Drop D? bitch please, Drop C all the way

  • @warkilwar Not everyone wants to put 13's on their guitar to achieve drop C... Chill. Music is enjoyment, not war.

  • who thinks the blues scale would make a hella cool song

  • pause at 0:00 he stares into ur soul...

  • loving the killing in the name of riff stuff in there :P

  • hia guys , marty swatz here

  • I've played for YEARS and I always wondered how others played the E, and A together like that...I must be stupid or something...thanks Marty!

  • Made my Month!

  • I love how he says im gonna show this very quick 8:55 min. -.-

  • I think you turned a heavy metal lesson way to bluesy, but good lesson. ( I know it uses a blues scale but still the title seems misleading.)

  • @ReesysBeats a metal comes from the blues. Take a muddy waters riff or Chuck berry, play it with some heavy distortion, and it's gunna sound really metal

  • @94Cioppa I know!

  • are you using a pedal?

  • USE THE SCHWARTZ!!!!!

  • Sounds like you know Griff bro!

  • tu tu tu tuuu... hahaha i had a good laugh at 3:38 too but dude, thanks for the info. =)

now, before watching the video, i figured out and kinda made sure by watching this video that having one whole step down the 6xth strings it would take only one finger to do a power chord... because it like if the sixth string is always played two frets down (more than frets, one step down)..

took me a while to figured it out and hope this written simple thiing helps somebody.

  • 7:01 killing in the name of

  • i can see Skillet - Monster in this vid.

  • That was very educational, just watching this video and playing along I accidentally played spoonman haha! Marty your the bees knees and the cats pajamas, keep em comin brother!

  • helped me alot

  • Marty duddee I just realized this but you look stoned in a lot of your vids man xD

  • dude your awesome

  • This was really helpful. You've helped me finish a song I've been working on for weeks. Thanks!!

  • i think slash watched this video before writing slither

  • @dammit1996jaded i think that this is a little impossible cuz slither was wrote in 2004 an this video was uploaded in 2010

  • @LarryBmx1 yes but salsh has a time machine didn't you know?

  • @dammit1996jaded oooooh..that make sense:)))

  • @dammit1996jaded Slither was released in 2004, this video was uploaded in 2010... More like Marty listened to Slither before making this video ;P

  • that was sick!!! marty, please do more rock lessons like this... you rock man

  • master!

  • Dude is that a George Washburn you got ther or what model is that?

  • hey marty i need to ask a question how in some solos for example blackbird by alter bridge how does mark tremonti do some noise in the middle of the solo and then complete? i know i didnt explain well but if u hear it when he's playing and the solo stops he makes a sound like a riff but its not in the tabs

  • 3:38 made my day xD

  • My favorite method to go to drop D is to tune to the 7th fret.

  • @SirFrankoman

Seventh fret of the E string?

  • my amp is a marshall but also makes that noise when I put the gain not know why?

  • @brandyvco

Because bigger amps do that. The amount of noise depends on your guitar.

  • @brandyvco Does your guitar have single coils? If so, that is why.

  • pls can you do how to tune in drop c there aren t any lesson on you tube about that please

  • @RobertCRO69metalhead i susally use a tuner for dropping all strings just because theres sometimes a difference in how notes sound on strings because of how high up on the fretboard to have to go to match the note you're trying to get. if you have a tuner, the notes from top to bottom are CGCFAd. otherwise, ill try to make you a tutorial video for it

  • @wesdude2448 yes i have a tuner but it is kind of a shitty its not chromatic so i have to do it by ear

  • @RobertCRO69metalhead theres a way to do it with a normal tuner. but in any case, ill make you a tutorial if you want

  • @wesdude2448 will you please?

  • Such a great lesson. I can barely play the basic chords and yet this has given me a bit more confidence to go back to them. This is one technique I can do regardless of how simple it is.

  • van halen

  • total bitchen man

  • my guitar teacher recently showed me drop d tuning for killing in the name of so i played around with these chords and i came up with some sick riffs!

  • @LunchedTV do u have a video of em?

  • @xXPunkMataXx ya some check out my channel. Everlong, Slither by velvet revolver and killing in the name of i played.

  • Thank YOU! I'm subscribing to your channel....I've learned SO much from this one lesson....

  • pause at 3:37 xD

  • Another great lesson. U make it easy! Thanks!

  • relax your hand dude.......

  • Love It

  • Shit yeah man

  • 6:55

    linkin park's one step closer

  • Hey Marty I just wanna say thanks for doing the online lessons I was learning guitar for 3years with my instructor and now my money is really tight it's something I live and enjoy so I get online and I learn alot of the music you teach and you have a good variety for every1 so i just wanted to thank you because I'm still able to learn and progress as a musician

  • mmm i heard killing in the name of by rage against the machine, but again wonderful lesson!!!!!

  • @punkaholicmember yeah you did but hes giving you examples of who uses drop d he played a few tunes i recognized there

  • thats the scale a7x uses...

  • @libyanhead and pretty much everyone who has picked up a guitar for the last 100 years.

  • @TheBrowndawg lol.

  • hey marty I'm signed with youre email for a while now but I never go that book? is that becaus I live in the NL pls reply because I love ur guitar lessons

  • You hear a little "wobb-bble-bble". :D

  • Thanks man! very helpful

  • hahaha niceeee head bobbin thing you had going on there at 3 37 :D

  • what hes says could be an intro at 3:35 is off a Rammstein song called Otherworld

  • @jedipyro69

actually it really doesnt matter, years of studying music, guitar lesson and what not, have taught me that ultimately its not the guitar or the Speakers its the guitar player, sure a Les Paul could have some nicer effects to go along with heavy metal and a fender more of a Jazz kind of song, but in the end a great guitar player could play Metal Militia with a fender and still seem like hes using a Flying V

  • the link is fake!

  • @WarmPupp worked fine for me. did it not open up for you?

  • @mattybock

    no, :s

  • @WarmPupp try copy and pasting, or right clicking and opening in a new tab/window. or go to google with the website name an search the site. YT has been doing alot of screwy stuff as of late.

  • thanks 4 da lesson marty

  • Not the best lesson on youtube.

  • why would you use a fender strat for d tuning, use your les paul

  • Comment removed

  • when tuning to drop D do i tighten my strings or loosen them im just afraid ill break the Low E string if i mess it up a little bit also

  • @muffytin12 loosen

  • @muffytin12 dropped tuning means to tune down which is loosen tuning up is to tighten

  • @muffytin12 loosen ur E till it sounds like ur D. enjoy :)

  • this dude looks stooooned as fuck hahaha

  • wow...when i first started playin guitar i didnt no where to turn but thanxs to Marty im a fuckin beast

  • Marty is awsome i feel like I know him personally. his vids are sooo helpful Thanks again Marty your the man!!!

  • Good playing, but a bad hardrock sound

  • @MrTjgale

lol what? Getting a little worked up are we? hahaha

  • @MrTjgale

Who are you trying to inform that rock on strats suck? lol because I don't think anyone really cares what some internet guy has to say about his opinion. haha just sayin.

  • SPOOONMAN!!

  • Hey Marty! I am trying to learn the Rise against song Hero of war. can you do a tutorial on that Song?

  • what if you tune it to d tunning but the strings get really loose

  • @Deadlyriot1994 In a case like that you need heavier strings

  • @Deadlyriot1994 You need thicker strings but be sure that they are not too thick. Otherwise they migh damage your guitar. Just go to a music store with your

guitar and ask for strings you can do Drop D on and ask one employer if they are

    good for your instrument

  • @heythinkaboutit 10´s are really good for most guitars for drop D to Drop C

  • @MrTjgale Rock was basically invented and has flourished on Strats.

  • Great simple lesson to build on!!! Thanks!! Lookin forward to the E-book.

  • i fucking love u men!!!!!!

  • Drop D is awesome

  • another cool lesson....thanks Marty.....

  • Good lesson funny too

  • Dude, your jammin was one of the most amazing shit I ever heard, like, really. Favorited for sure.

  • I like your lessons Marty. Though best guitar book I have had was from Susan Mazer I saw on Workshop Live. Unlike many guitar books she includes music notation ans well as chord boxes above the Tab. That way we learn the fret board better. Though I know you are teaching us improvisation and transcribing amongst other thins. Much thanks.

  • thanks bro!

  • Super awesome. This is also good for kids who don't yet have lots of finger dexterity.

So if you're doing a solo over this you'd just use Dminor pentatonic/blues?

  • was that the riff from spoonman near the end?

  • Why you only do beginner lessons??It would be cool if u would do some experiance stuff!!!!

  • yawn

  • this guitar meduim Jumbo or full size ???

  • i love your marty :D

  • Hi marty, great tutorials. could you please do

    Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees

    Thanks!

  • @tewwance you dont eed a video tutorial for that song its super simple chords

  • Every time I watch a Marty lesson I feel like I hit the motherload of information...he just knows how to explain everything so clearly.

i like white >:) rock on

  • Geez Marty, I was looking at some of your old vids tonight and you have dropped a shitload of weight! What's the secret? More guitar practice = less time to eat? I might have to try that idea out! I might have just invented the latest fad diet!!! LOL

  • @TEMPA01 ha the guitar diet, I think I've got my next dvd!!!!

  • awesome can u make more lessons like this one.

  • i never knew that blues scale in drop d, thanks for the lesson!

  • Pause at 1:19

    Bwahahaha

  • Hey Marty. A deep truly heart-felt sincere Thank you. You kick ass!!! I love drop D. This is going to help me ALOT ! May you always be in tune.

  • Marty single coils and Drop D = Fail.

Unless you got some P90's and some heavy distortion. Would be even better with some Humbuckers.

  • @HereMikeWas I think Marty rocks that shit either way bro.

  • @CubertBeMySuitePee I did not ask you! FAIL!!! jk

Fender Start Drop D = Fail! Sorry imo. He does know how to play no doubt about that.

  • Hey Marty have you made a spoonman guitar lesson yet? if not you should do that one soon seeing as you just taught it to us basically just now in this video and then we can use it to practice our drop d tuning and actually play songs with it!! amazing the riffs you can come up with using this drop d!! thanks again Marty!

  • @MClown69 nevermind Marty I see you already did Spoonman! thanks man! anyone else know other songs in drop d?

  • Man thanks so much I played with my friend for like 3 months and havnt played for years but wanted to start again. Forgot everything and my friend was teaching me in drop D so when I started again it felt harder to play. This video helped alot

  • great job marty
