  • cool : )

  • @HuLiXD The 1st version I heard was the Towner piano-guitar duet from "Diary." I saw Towner do this on solo piano & it STILL sounded like several instruments.

  • Well, My favorite version is from, Iron Maiden," Icarus " now that's a hell of a song, cause this one suckth! But that's just my point. To each it's own.

  • wow, this is so beautiful. This reminds me of a lot of them progressive rock / metal bands I've listened to. Opeth, Dream Theatre and Periphery just to name a few.

  • Awwww i thought it was Kid Icarus...

  • Still one of my absolute favorite pieces of music, no matter which arrangement I hear. This one is truly wonderful.

  • Just, Plain GORGEOUS! A rich, beautiful and delightful rendition of what is doubtless Towner's best known work. OUTSTANDING!

  • Claudio Bellatoa in concert tribute to NINO ROTA AND RALPH TOWNER

Solo acoustic guitar and live electronics

    E-BOW,violin bow,objects,prepared guitar.

    CONTACT CLAUDIO BELLATO FOR CONCERTS?

  • I remember this from the Ralph Towner record "Diary" (ECM), released around '74, in which the main theme is played on piano, which gives it a wonderful chunky energy (excuse my lack of technical terminology), Anyway thanks for that - a beautiful piece which evokes fond memories.

  • Been listening to RT since the early 70's and even to this day almost 40 yrs. latter his music is still timeless. Never gets old. Never gets dated. Truly amazing musician.

  • This song from the Paul winter Consort days on the album Icarus was my coming of age song. If I was sad over my first love or in the throws of happy elation with my first love, It accompanied me there like a wise uncle {:> The tearful release was allways so healing .... Respect and Thanks!

  • I had a chance to interview Ralph when he appeared on an interesting channel called "Fine Tuning". He is witty, intelligent, funny, inventive and a master guitarist and composer. He could not believe the convergence of sounds and rhythms and music from all genres on Fine Tuning. The channel was dropped from the lineup but was much loved as it merged classical, rock, world, jazz to create a sound all its own. Perhaps we can all converge and get it back on air.

  • Anyone have a line on the chord changes for Icarus?

Thanks for posting this great arrangement.

  • Wow! Ralph.....what can one say...amazing

  • Just LOOOOOOVE watching Ralph Towner's right hand. Unique.

  • Anybody heard his work with Joe Zawinul's Weather Report on Vertical Invader (or is it I sing the body electric) also can anyone tell me what the beautiful Les Paul style guitar is on the left is please,,,

  • Sunday wake me up guitars........

  • Paul Winter's - Icarus

From the old Paul Winter Consort ( LP), where almost all members of Oregon played at their beginnings

the song is in the Realbook- even back from the mid 70s

  • @mariavasilei which one?

  • @mariavasilei Yes but Ralph wote it and most of the consort's material. The live LP 'Road' has THE best version. The Apollo astronauts played it on the way to the Moon!!

  • Respond to this video... Hey Roob got more of this concert? I caight them at Tilley's Canberra and got to talk to them after the gig. Wow!

  • Who is the composer of this song???

  • @mvrasseli

Ralph Towner... you should hear the version he cut with Gary Burton...

    Matchbook CD also on ECM

  • One question: does anyone know what tuning has Towner's 12 string guitar here? Nobody knows!

  • @paolomanueldec

Looks like standard tuning. Check the E9 chord right around 3:10.....

No one makes the 12string luminous like Towner.......brilliant!!!

  • Na deles, não tem pra ninguém.

    sybarretto

  • @sybarretto louco do caralho

  • Perhaps one of the most inspiring compositions ever written! Always touches the heart no matter the version and to me captures the hope of dreams, faith and redemption.

  • Watch the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet's arrangement of this.

  • this song is always wonderful, got probably a dozen versions...this rendition is,well..."beyond", they dont even seems to b improvising- to me-rather remarking lines and parts already in the song

  • AWESOMENESS

  • I love this trio (esp Ralph) but two things annoy me:

    1) The guy working the camera in the beginning focusing on the wrong guys in their improv

    2) Wolfgang's level seems to be too low compared to the other two...

  • Yeah you're right man, the cameraman is a musically idiot! They are great though.

  • @paolomanueldec it's not the camera man...it is the director....

  • Yeah you're right.

  • These fellows seem to be totally immursed in beauty.. Wonder what they dream about?

  • I remember doing special-K while this was playing.... good times

  • I prefer Cheerios w/ Raspberries & Soy milk, myself.....

  • @timjmoran louco do caralho

  • This is a new artist and song for me. Thanks so much for sharing. Brings back touches of Roger Hodgson and Pat Metheny (Watercolors).

  • Thanks for posting. Ralph Towner is one of my all time favorite composers and musicians

  • I wish I could find a version done by Paul winter consort - ICARUS

  • The Paul Winter Consort "ICARUS" CD in on the Epic label. The catalogue # is 31643. I don't know if it's still available

  • A beautiful version from a Paul Winter theme.

  • So beautiful. Please come back to Byron Bay soon!

  • wow, does this take me back...

    sweet.

  • 13yrs old, went and saw my first Paul winter Consort show at Marist College Poughkeepsie NY.with my dad Gary Dean Decker. Icarus was a universal song, As my ego and Id wared , my 13 yrs old brain just figuring out how to balance it all out. I would play this song when I was happy or sad . It would meld and reinforce the reality of life. Invigorating me!!!

  • . I love it. I would like to find the tabs from the song

  • it's in the real book

  • Thanks!!!!!!!! Ralph Towner one of the heroes of my youth.

  • ....MUSIC....JUST THE MUSIC....

  • I'm only just getting into Ralph Towner's work and I have to say it is amazing! Been a Slava fan for a long time!

Is there a DVD of this concert?

  • not yet, but you never know......

  • that is such a wonderful song. I'm wondering why only Wolfi takes a whole chorus?

  • Hi E - this was part of a full concert which featured Ralph Wolfi and Slava equally. I'd say the gentlemen decided to give this one to Wolfgang.

  • This just made feel so good about being a musician... thanks a lot for sharing such good taste!!

  • big fan of slava, thanks!

  • Beautiful song! Thank you very much for sharing.

  • Great! Thanks!

  • just wonderful
