  • I am sure the master would have preferred the crisp sound rather than the old 78 scratches although no doubt it is the scratches that bring back some fond memories to you and others. As music has a place at different times throughout our life. Another fine job Tom

  • BRAVO CRUSO!!!!

  • Why somebody dont do the same thing with Callas's Live recordings? It would be amazing!

  • @MariaCallasLegend Good question. Would be great !

  • Tom, like you I also prefer the original version with all the pops and scratches. Sounds much more authentic. There is a recently downloaded version now available on YouTube that is played on a Victor III. It is quite good. Thank you so much for all you do to keep the master from being forgotten.

  • @lewashcliffe: thanks, Lewis. Found it via your channel. This is the real stuff !

Wish I had a Victor III and all of his 78's...

  • Tom,

I started singing along & noted how easy it seemed. I then checked & he recorded it a half step down. It hardly matters, it is absolutely magnificent.

    Doug

  • Thanks for posting and for your hard work remastering.

  • He is good I who '"nt spend tometos onyou

  • @eldonfitz: I'm an untrained person myself (totally untrained, in fact...), I don't know the first thing about singing ! I'm just emotionally touched by Caruso's heart when he sings. That's why I keep uploading his art. Some like the remasterings, some not. Some like the original 78's and don't mind the needle noise. Others can enjoy his voice with a newly done orchestration. Who is right or wrong is not the issue; it's what YOU like. Any way a person can enjoy his singing, is fine with me!

  • All these digital 'dubs' need to 'mike up' his voice louder. However, I enjoy hearing these over Nat Shilkret's dubs of the '30s. I'm 47 and have listened to his records my whole lifetime. Good job!

  • @kjpportland I don't agree; the difference between this and the "O Sole Mio" done on a subsequent CD is that the reverb of the hall that the orchestra is in should be matched by the voice; that other recording gets that more right, hence the effect of "balance" is better.

This has the more of the flatness of the original acoustic recording, done very close up with no room acoustics; they could have done a better job of matching the voice to the orchestra.

  • Very satisfying. Enrico at his very best.

    And you too.

The seldom seen photo is a delight.

    Thank you very much indeed.

  • I thank you, Bengt !

    Tom

  • I love remasterings!!

  • I'm relieved that not everybody is "against" me :-)

  • He waited to 1918 before the took on this role on stage.

  • Didn't know that - it was usually the other way around. A heck of a challenge singing this part ...

    Thanks for the info.

  • Remastered or not - it's just the same: Caruso either way remain Caruso. Thanks for a sharing!

    M.

  • I think so too. No matter if original, enhanced or remastered, one can still hear him in his wonderful voice !

  • "and "ruined" with new orchestration in Vienna around 1995."

    That was hilarious. :-P

    "Remastering?? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"!!

Bravo, 'o tu che sei fare tutti questi miracoli colla voce'. (Italian?)

  • Ruined: just trying to fend off potential attacks on my person :-)

    Remasterings: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !

    Italian: sounds Italian ....

  • Remastering?? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    :P

Actually this doesn't sound bad. ;-) Wonderful singing as usual.

  • :-) - at least in this one the orchestra doesn't much compete with his voice. Thanks...
