@nicknag321 Oh dear you need a history lesson; record unemployment in the 1980s, the destruction of manufacturing, coal and steel industries for the sake of an ideology, a stock market crash in 1987, a massive housing bubble which burst in 1991 with as I recall 17% interest rates and another stock market crash in 1992. Who was in power during this time, do remind me?

@ahughe32 There were two stock market crashes and a big property crash between 1987 and 1992, this implies that something was wrong with the ecomomic plan, they Govt was to blame, being able to cook the books isn't a good result. If automation was responsible for the unemployment in the 1980s why do we not have a car industry like the Germans, French or Japanese today? The winter of discontent was a long long time ago now so why complain about it.
@2replybiz - AS I SAID BUT YOU HAVE NOT LISTENED OR DO NOT WANT TO. AFTER 1992 THE UK HAD 5 YEARS OF SUSTAINED GROWTH WHICH YOU FAIL TO MENTION. THEREFORE HOW WAS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ECONOMIC PLAN AND HOW COME NEW LABOUR CONTINUED WITH OVER 85 % OF IT? which is paternal to guess what... a back to work scheme. It is new labour pandering to the centre and middle class of Britain which stole that policy. Major blow to your argument! And actually the conservatives consistently get more of the popular vote, it's because of the west lothian question (over representation for scotland) that labour get elected.
I know they haven't got it in the bag, because they have to win over 100 seats just to gain a small majority. The most likely is outcome is a hung Parliament, which would suck. Not a major blow to my argument, if you had any knowledge of political theory at all you would realise that a " back to work" scheme is an inherently conservative policy... one which they have been promoting for... over 200 years! Right of centre politics involves smaller government intervention and market based solutions
you're such an idiot! I don't read the daily mail, I read the guardian and the telegraph. When you tear your eyes away from the tits on page 3 of the sun you may realise how wrong you are. Name one example of a labour policy which Labour made which the Tories adopted and called their own... I seem to remember alistair darling (know him?) got ripped into in 2007 for nicking Tory tax policy after the manchester conference. Let's talk policy if we are going to, don't make irrelevent ali metaphors.
the party of the rich man? Odd then that it was they, not the liberals, who gave the working class the vote. Remember that the pride of Britain is its middle class, we had it first and best, and not the minority working class. There is a reason why people turned to Thatcher in 1979, it's because they hated dick head unionists. For a prosperous society which allows for class mobility and the creation of wealth vote tory. If you're bigoted and angry without cause vote labour. Make the right choice
no i'm not, obviously under the tories there was no class mobility, they opposed the great reform act etc, but the conservative party under peel began to embrace the middle class and disraeli gave the working class the vote. This continued until margaret thatcher who did more than any other to break down class barriers in Britain. It's new labour who keep this idea of an upper class living on through spreading hate.
david cameron and his rich backer,s say labour ,s plan,s to raise national insurance will cost job,s and I see that Diageo boss paul walsh agree,s with him would that be the same DIAGEO who have axed 700 british job,s at their bottling plant in kilmarnock it is nothing to do with NI IT IS JUST LIKE MR CABLE SAID GREED GREED GREED
@willukus You are, perhaps literally, insane. Breaking down class barriers is one thing: destroying a class is another. People still do the work in manufacturing and resource extraction that the British once did, and they do it in more terrible conditions than have obtained here for centuries. Exporting proletarian exploitation to Asia does not count as solving capitalism's production of the pauperisation of workers. And if you think the upper class has disappeared, you've got a screw loose!
@willukus Soo what about the conservatives' plans to cut inheritance tax? What about their current plans to privitise the NHS? What about them raising tuition fees? What about their plans to cut benefits? What about them reducing public sector jobs? How in any way shape or form is this any of their aims different to the same old tories, out for the rich (themselves) ???
firstly i don't live in london, secondly why should I be ashamed that, in our democratic and capitalist society, I don't vote labour. Understand this nation and its history you ignorant bell end.
Stupid prick. No wonder there are more working class people that support Labour and it is because that they say that Labour help them as the Consevatives do fuck all or brake there promises by helping the working class people.
don't think so... do you wanna get in bed with people who all went to private schools and want the richest people to get richer, and the poor people to stay poor, who want to cut down on public services and get rid of the minimum wage? just use your conscience, do you want a government that suppors people, or exploits them?
@annaemilysimpson just as many labourites went to private schools as tories. blair went to a better school than major. and under labour the rich/poor gap has got even wider. stupid stereotypical tory slander
Only a victory! Seen by me. Very much impresses, I have seen persons of people, with love, with hope, yours faithfully. Impresses a birth of the new leader of a world scale. The future belongs to conservatives.
all parties in the commons are the same, greedy, you would expect cameroon to be drilling into labour now because of the expences scandal but as usual that weak individual who thinks alot of himself is saying NOTHING, he is certainly a DO NOTHING leader.
Well I find it interesting that both parties have tried to alienate thier support. the Conservatives have offended old fationed tories and Labour have been busy upseting thier traditional support as well. If only the Lib Dem's were not so usless there might be a third option.
Conservative run - Kent social workers and 'childrens trust boards' are spending thousands of taxpayers money on overnight stays in posh hotels out of their departments budgets ,which they control, at a mere £2000 a time - have they no shame? Kent Messenger 13/2/09
All paid for from the £millions profit made from 'Forced Adoptions' that all Parties condone by doing nothing to stop it .
I don't remember what I am commenting on because I wasn;t born yet but from what I have been told from family members is that when Labour were last in power they were ousted out through strikes and left the country in debt. And it took the tories to get us out of debt then they fucked up and Labour are now gonna leave us in debt again.
Yes true, My mother, whos a single parent votes conservative. Just because shes fed up of being placed in negative equity by labour every time they get into government.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Has anyone noticed that David Cameron is at his 'best' when acting like a stuck-up, pompous, prick? He's a media-savvy version of Guido Fawkes and would be a disaster for the UK.
Because the alternative is ideal isn't it! Are you really suggesting that David Cameron would do as much damage to this country as Gordon Brown has over the last decade?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Over the last decade? you mean establish the British pound as the most secure currency in the world? it's only recent events that he couldn't have controlled that have led to this fall. I actually WANT the tories to get in a fuck everything up, just so conservatives twats such as yourself would shut the FUCK UP!
Oh dear - I see that Alistair Campbell and Co. have really pulled the wool over your eyes. The British economy is in the position it is today for a variety of reasons; of course the situation internationally has contributed but there can be no doubt that the economic policies of this Labour government have made things far worse. Sadly, I fear that 2009 will prove this to be the case as unemployment hits 3 Million and the economy continues to contract.
The most stable the economy has been in the past 50 years was in the early and mid 90's under the Tories. John Major and Ken Clarke etc.... (Post Thatcher)
Gordon Brown thereafter held the purse strings and has slowly being erroding away the economic stability left to them by the Tories. How? by allowing Blair the cash to throw at public services with reckless abandon and borrowing more and more money with each passing year to fuel the inefficiency of their administration.
To be fair to Blair, before this recession his policies kept the UK economy damn healthy. Low inflation rates, good interest rates, sustained economic growth.
Unfortunately, when the going gets tough, Brown doesn't know how to hack it.
David Cameron ran off to Georgia for a photo op -saying they should be admitted to NATO. That would mean our troops would be there engaged in a war with the Russians -yet he wants Iraq troop reductions. Cameron said he wanted a strong European voice over the Georgian crisis -yet he wants to break up Europe. And he criticised GB for not going to Georgia - perhaps because unlike Cameron, the govt were keen NOT to attempt to destroy Sarkozy's peace efforts. Vote Cameron in 2010? Go ahead you fools.
Cameron could be the most inexperienced premier in history, much more so than Blair was. Frankly I think "DC" would be a disaster for Britain; even worse than the current government.
Can't they put Cameron in the crusher too? Cameron has spent his entire life in wealth and private services only the rich can afford... he doesn't have a clue about real people!!!
MellowNDark - that is exactly the same for Brown. He comes from an upper-class background and went to private school - and his party are supposed to support the working class? Pah!!!

which is paternal to guess what... a back to work scheme. It is new labour pandering to the centre and middle class of Britain which stole that policy. Major blow to your argument! And actually the conservatives consistently get more of the popular vote, it's because of the west lothian question (over representation for scotland) that labour get elected.
willukus 2 years ago
I know they haven't got it in the bag, because they have to win over 100 seats just to gain a small majority. The most likely is outcome is a hung Parliament, which would suck. Not a major blow to my argument, if you had any knowledge of political theory at all you would realise that a " back to work" scheme is an inherently conservative policy... one which they have been promoting for... over 200 years! Right of centre politics involves smaller government intervention and market based solutions
willukus 2 years ago 2
you're such an idiot! Let's talk policy if we are going to, don't make irrelevent ali metaphors.
willukus 2 years ago 2
the party of the rich man? Odd then that it was they, not the liberals, who gave the working class the vote. Remember that the pride of Britain is its middle class, we had it first and best, and not the minority working class. There is a reason why people turned to Thatcher in 1979, it's because they hated dick head unionists. For a prosperous society which allows for class mobility and the creation of wealth vote tory. If you're bigoted and angry without cause vote labour. Make the right choice
willukus 2 years ago
Class mobility under the Tories?! Hahahaha, you must be joking.
19STU84 2 years ago
no i'm not, obviously under the tories there was no class mobility, they opposed the great reform act etc, but the conservative party under peel began to embrace the middle class and disraeli gave the working class the vote. This continued until margaret thatcher who did more than any other to break down class barriers in Britain. It's new labour who keep this idea of an upper class living on through spreading hate.

david cameron and his rich backer,s say labour ,s plan,s to raise national insurance will cost job,s and I see that Diageo boss paul walsh agree,s with him would that be the same DIAGEO who have axed 700 british job,s at their bottling plant in kilmarnock it is nothing to do with NI IT IS JUST LIKE MR CABLE SAID GREED GREED GREED
xladydaf 1 year ago
@willukus You are, perhaps literally, insane. Breaking down class barriers is one thing: destroying a class is another. People still do the work in manufacturing and resource extraction that the British once did, and they do it in more terrible conditions than have obtained here for centuries. Exporting proletarian exploitation to Asia does not count as solving capitalism's production of the pauperisation of workers. And if you think the upper class has disappeared, you've got a screw loose!
noglet76 1 year ago
@willukus she also did her level best to ensure that working class people were destroyed

I don't remember what I am commenting on because I wasn;t born yet but from what I have been told from family members is that when Labour were last in power they were ousted out through strikes and left the country in debt. And it took the tories to get us out of debt then they fucked up and Labour are now gonna leave us in debt again.

xanderthemanonthe 2 years ago
Oh dear - I see that Alistair Campbell and Co. have really pulled the wool over your eyes. The British economy is in the position it is today for a variety of reasons; of course the situation internationally has contributed but there can be no doubt that the economic policies of this Labour government have made things far worse. Sadly, I fear that 2009 will prove this to be the case as unemployment hits 3 Million and the economy continues to contract.
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago 8
WTF?
The most stable the economy has been in the past 50 years was in the early and mid 90's under the Tories. John Major and Ken Clarke etc.... (Post Thatcher)
Gordon Brown thereafter held the purse strings and has slowly being erroding away the economic stability left to them by the Tories. How? by allowing Blair the cash to throw at public services with reckless abandon and borrowing more and more money with each passing year to fuel the inefficiency of their administration.
You clown
chapmasi 2 years ago
To be fair to Blair, before this recession his policies kept the UK economy damn healthy. Low inflation rates, good interest rates, sustained economic growth.
Unfortunately, when the going gets tough, Brown doesn't know how to hack it.
chazrc23 2 years ago 3
Blair inherited a golden goose from the tories. He gave it to Brown - now its a lame duck
