18 years ago? If you took the test today, do you think you would score higher, lower, or about the same?
I keep receiving E-mails from MENSA to take the test. I tried a couple of practice tests. I scored better 3 years ago than I did this year. With this outcome, I'm afraid to take the test since you only get one chance to pass. I have too much going on in life to concentrate on the tests, I suppose.
I would say the people in Mensa make good cannon fodder.
By joining Mensa, you are labeling yourself a potential threat to the alphas of society that nest at the top of the establishment. Mensa identifies competition.
I guess the 2% aren't as intelligent as they thought they were since together they couldn't collectively figure this conceptual scenario themselves.
What is a "rogue" scholar? Mom was a 160 IQ MENSA menber. I was a music prodigy at age 7 (continue as a professional film composer, having written numerous orchestral pieces with next to no formal training), spent some 12 years engineering & building some of the most technical special effects gags in Hollywood, can discuss "string theory" with any cosmologist, yet only attained a 127 on my MENSA test. Basic math skills are okay, but was startled by so many advanced math questions. Odd test!
You can only measure how smart a person is by how much grey matter they have in their brain.. A smart person or the classic textbook smart person must be able to take a logical, understanding, out of the box, common sense approach to a situation. I would argue that MENSA is not filled with genious's because of these reasons. To have someone in mensa not humble themselvs is terrable. Do not concur that you are better than someone. Being smart does not make you happy.
I think I might be able to join MENSA, as the practice test online was oriented towards people with logical capabilities, which I happen to possess. I believe I have a dopamine deficiency, like that of ADD, which might hinder my test taking ability, but I have confidence that with caffeine I might do well. I got 22/30 on the practice test online, but I wasn't completely focused and the lack of caffeine while I took the test kind of screwed with my result.
I wish I could join Mensa. I have always felt different, and I know I am smart. The problem is that I also have ADD. That makes me slow, and I can't concentrate under time pressure. It makes me nervous and distracted. So on a 'real' IQ-test I will never score high enough. I've managed to score above average regardless of my ADD though. Meh, people probably won't believe me around here but that is okay, I can even say I understand :) Anyway, too bad there is no other way to join or prove yourself
You can take a "personalised" IQ test with an authorised local psychologist. Mensa accepts those tests too, if you score high enough of course. Good luck!
it's $40 for the test which covers the cost of the test analysis and materials. Mensa is a non-profit org. The annual dues are about $60 a year which you get back from the auto insurance discount you get. It is basically free when you consider the reduced costs you get from membership benefits.
My problem with the whole concept of the "High I.Q. Society" is that these societies allow certain people to feel elite and superior, while it alienates other worthwhile people, based on the results of a culturally biased test. They aren't as active in contributing to society, as say, the JayCees, or even some church groups. Mensa hasn't solved any real social problems. They get together and play Scrabble and put bumper stickers on their cars. All talk and no action.
Standard IQ tests are not culturally biased but this is a common charge made by those don't do well on them. Also, life is full of people who are better at one thing or another. Sports, making money, etc. You must loath those who compete in the Olympic!
Why must I "loath" anyone? Is it because you "loath" so many people, you assume that everyone must loath someone? What happened to you to make you so bitter? Why are you so angry?
You sound like you're in a lot of pain. Someone must have hurt you. Lashing out isn't the answer. It's important to deal with these underlying issues. This will help you to become more social.
Well, it is not really a club where you do things that are hard, like take tests. It is more of a place to meet other people that are like you. It is more of a socializing organization then anything else.
in that case i dont see why u would need an iq of over 150? personally i wanted to see if they actually get involved in things to help the enviroment etc...
Well, you could say that about any club, everyone that has the power to do something has the responsibility to do something, as written in the constitution of the united states of America. I agree with you, Mensa should get involved more. I think people who are part of Mensa should have an IQ of over 150 so that there are only true geniuses, and that way people can get in touch with others that share things in common, (continued in next comment)
I do not think that people that are classified in the 'gifted' category (130-139) should be eligible for Mensa because that defeats the entire purpose. Only true geniuses should be accepted so that people can have intelligent conversations that cannot be had with 'gifted' people.
@MathLover314 "I do not think that people that are classified in the 'gifted' category (130-139) should be eligible for Mensa" Mensa is a 2 standard deviations club, 2 SD is not genius, therefore Mensa is not a genius club...
It is not necessarily top 2%. For each IQ test score, there is defined a mean and a standard deviation and the distribution of that test over all people is usually Gaussian. The mean is generally 100. The SD differs from a test to another though. It's usually between 15-20 which means you are among the top 1.17%-4.46%.
Hes not talking about "Rhodes Scholar", you retard. Really.. i can't possible understand why you are asuming he's talking about the Rhodes Scholar, from the context...
Ironically intelligence has nothing to do with success. It is all about self control. I have a buddy who has an IQ of 168. He is a college dropout who cannot keep a job.
Yup, sure are and the attitude is in the back of all their minds, whether they want to admit it or not...
That's why they took the test but who cares, can you prove em wrong?
By their standards (and test) they are exactly that... Better-than-everybody else.
So what though, they are scholars, let them have their groups... Not all are bad either or egotistical, after several years probably get passed the whole, "wholly shit I'm a genius" and do some real good. I hope.
Members of mensa are all pathetic. anyone willing to pay fees so they can have a group of "better-than-everybodies" tell them that they are smart should really take a look in the mirror. I, for one, will keep my money and know that I am intelligent.
You sir are an imbecile. Aristotle reasoned and used logic for almost everything and never experimented or "acted" upon any of his claims. Yet people excepted his theories for over 2000 years, and not to mention many that still hold try today.
Now try and say that thinking is useless without action again without realising that you have no idea what you are talking about.
He managed to get those ideas out of his head and into the general population. Thus, he acted upon his thoughts. What good is a thought or idea if it remains in your head to be unused or told to anyone? You are an arrogant prick.
If Aristotle never acted how is it we hear of his thoughts today? There must have been some action at some point. Or are all his supposed positions actually filtered through the scribblings of an anonymous ghost writer?
Aristotle is a good man. He is not only smart, but also try to do something for the world. Why do you think so many trust his thinking then and even now anyway?
People in Mensa are smart but they don't do anything for the world and play with their puzzle. Even their founder are complaining bout it...
Heck i only have a slightly above average IQ..120 but i know being smart and being a good person with personality are two different thing.
There is something refreshing about being in a room full of folks in which one can be sure there is not a single dummy in the place. Smarter folks get your jokes right away, you seldom have to repeat yourself, and no topic is off the table. It usually only takes one dummy in the the crowd to ruin everything, argue stupid issues by mindlessly repeating garbage heard on TV or in the mainstream media. Ignorance tends to breed ignorance, the lower IQ types all tend to feed off of each other.
First unless the rules have changed during the past few years Mensa does allow the test to be taken more than once.
(I knew a guy who passed it on his third try).
Mensa also has it's share of fools who believe in the supernatural, are a favorite audience for magicians and psychics and certain topics such as religion and politics are generally off the table.
Btw pferdflecker, pretty much everything in the world, even those things that can occasionally astonish the brightest among us was designed by people with average IQs to be used by people with average IQs and that "dummy" you so despise might just be a whiz at electronics, carpentry, history, philosophy or any number of other things he could run circles around the typical Mensan on.
But you will never know that if you refuse to listen.
You know what..being smart and being a good person are two different thing.
I wonder? Did you and your Mensa buddy did anything for the world? No you play puzzles instead. Why? you probably think of the probabilities and find it not worth doing anything. But to ignore the problem, ain't that evil too?
So we shall all just disappear if we are stupid? I only got a above average IQ, and i am amazed at how some smart people can solve problem easily.
pferdflecker, You know the trouble in this world are sometime cause by people like you too. It goes both ways doesn't it?
I have a friend in Mensa. He is a bad person, he do all kinds of illegal stuff while he is smart. I know him since young, it's sad you know to see him like that.
There are some great and smart people in history who really care about his fellow man.
But you sir, can never be great. I see only arrogance in you. If there are no more people dumber than you, you will be nth
You can all learn more about Mensa by checking out their web site. I won't bother to give you the web address, if you're in the top 2% IQ group, you'll be able to figure it out fairly easily.
Every notice how the folks who badmouth Mensa are the ones who aren't smart enough to get in it?
Yes, i am a Mensa member, and i am frequently the target of much ridicule from people that know me...sometimes i wish i didn't put that bumper sticker on my car!!!
I don't know if I will ever qualify to get inside of an association of such intellectual requisites, but I like what I know about the concept of Mensa and I would like to get involved somehow. As for what regards your membership, let me tell you it makes me jealous.
who gives a crap...so you are quick witted brought up in a stimulating environment with better than average parental guidance is the difference between a 115 I.Q. and a 131 I.Q. oh and not having chronic fevers of 102 or more as a child helps too go shit up a rope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mensa has a pile of "SIGs" - Special Interest Groups... and there's something for just about everyone. My favorite is BLAMS - Blazing Lightly Armed Mensans - a group of Mensans who enjoy shooting and firearms and stuff like that. There may be egghead SIGs out there, but all my buddies are regular folks... different from the general population only in their high IQs. Mensa is fun because you don't have to put up with some moron in the conversation who thinks he knows everything.
I should do more with Mensa. I renew my membership with ideas for things to do and then do nothing. Kinda interested in starting an exotic travel group of people over 40 who want to travel alone. (Wife isn't interested in exotic travel at all.) You think the idea would fly? Highlands of Guatemala? Tikal? Great Wall walk? What do you think?
towafit, I don't think you can think. You're a moron. You wish you weren't but you are so you are here, trying to badmouth Mensa but only proving yourself to be what you are. But hey! You're in the majority. The average IQ is less than 100 and you are certainly a classic example of that.
Try to say something intelligent. Go ahead. It'd be funny. Stupid waste that you are.
Of course I know the meaning of ad hominem... I'm a Mensa member. Vocabulary is one of the single best indicators of intelligence, and is the foundation for a number of I.Q. tests, including the Stanford-Binet which is one of the most popular. If you have a 132 on the Stanford-Binet, you, too can join Mensa ( and then you wouldn't have to ask such questions....)
even though i try not to judge someones intelligence from their vocabulary, it does seem to be a good indicator of intelligence.
Although i am not a mensa member, i had the opportunity to join awhile back, but decided not to, due to the negative stigma. i suppose i will take the test again (good benefits, lol).
Even though I can speak with a good vocabulary at places such as school for example, I just don't do it, I speak like everyone.
I prefer adapting myself to the environment, then when I am with smarter people, I can use the better vocabulary :)
Though I hate the *wannabe smart* people who think they are intelligent because they try hard to speak with a good vocabulary, so they speak to people with big words even though they aren't really smart, just trying to be.
chico, i definitely agree with you completely, i don't use my large vocabulary unless a situation presents itself were use of a large vocabulary is appropriate.
*phew* finals are over with for the quarter, lol, i am glad to be on break.
Good point. Vocabulary is a good indicator of intelligence, but it isn't the only indicator. One doesn't need to use 10 dollar words to get a message across, and in fact, many use unnecessarily large vocabularies to try to impress folks.
Even though I can speak with a good vocabulary at places such as school for example, I just don't do it, I speak like everyone.

Bottom line, you could misjudge someone's intelligence if you were to judge by the vocabulary, lot of people with good vocabulary just don't use it often
You can only take the Mensa test once. If you have passed it already, they still have your results. If you failed it, you can't take it again. You can, however, submit one of the other approved tests listed on their web site.
Not true, your own lower I.Q. is showing with this statement. Swartzennegger flexing his muscles does not "prove his lack thereof". Flaunting one's intelligence may be undignified, but it certainly doesn't prove anything.
True, but it can prove a sense of inferiority or insecurity. Plus one might take into consideration your lack of intelligence due to your desire to carry on meaningless arguments with strangers via youtube comments. Of course I as well suffer from that condition too. :-/
Devourer09 posts this little gem:>Hitler could have made it into Mensa easily. You and him[sic:-should be "he"] would get along great by purifying the earth and getting rid of impure people.
I can tell by your comment that you would not make the cut off score. In fact half the population score IQs under 100. There is a better than even money shot that your IQ would not even cross into the three digit range.
In fact, you probably don't even know what I'm telling you
There are two different people making comments, here. Anthewhite91 and towafit. You are the one who is on attack. Anthewhite91 made a joke, and asked a perfectly logical question. Your response was really strange, about not having anything to say to children...then you attacked (became defensive). Basically, what you're saying, is that, if you aren't in Mensa, you're an imbecile? 98% of the population should be dismissed? 98% are cattle?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ok, for starters, I didnt get your stupid joke. I can't understand why they roll their eyes and call you a "stupid table", everytime you do something dumb. For seconds, you suck penguin ass. Lastly but not leastly, they miss you on Brokeback Mountain. You stupid table.
Lol..u were the one that started it , now that you are growing dim of wit, u try and dismiss me. Yes , u bit of more than u can chew (not the first time I bet). Yes, we shall stop communicating, but on my terms, ie. I will have the last word. Now...You are so lucky as I could have been your daddy, ...if the dog didnt beat me up the stairs. So I suggest u go back to stealing the starw from your mothers kennel. Assclown.

wow..u must be a genius... but u are wrong. I called myself that cause it reminds me of your mother and sister. I do them bith doggie-style so I don't have to look at the crackpipe burns otheir lips.
Interesting to see how so many people who aren't smart enough to get into Mensa always have the strongest opinions about it... usually negative. Looks like "dumb" is defined as opining on a subject about which one knows absolutely nothing.
Yes, one can easily fall into MENSA without too much trouble simply by passing the exam. We do have "elitist" members but they are that way in life normally and it has nothing to do with MENSA. The true scholars I know are not "elitist" at all but rather are humble, gentle spirits and would never look down on anyone. These are my friends. The true spirit of MENSA abhors those who use their smarts to insult others.
hmmm over 500 views!! congratulations. Did you meet some reptilians? "!Psyc!" :D Just a small remark...I dont know why I watch this I dont know what the hell and I dont get the point,....is there one?
Mensa is akin to establishment. Smart is what's required by the system one finds themselves in. Logic and math is your ticket, (without) fuck yourself. Not a clear test, and yet another elitist group
Mensa is a sect.
IQ measurement is not a finished test.

Heck i only have a slightly above average IQ..120 but i know being smart and being a good person with personality are two different thing.

Undergraduate philosophy. To use the current net parlance LOL.

Ignorance tends to breed ignorance, the lower IQ types all tend to feed off of each other.
pferdflecker 3 years ago
lol, what your describing almost parallels most family reunions, lol!
When one of my distant cousins asked what I did as a engineering aide at NASA, I knew I was very alone... lol.
Anastasius37 3 years ago
pferdflecker you are incredibly arrogant.
And that's "Feed off" not "Feed off of."
virago1776 3 years ago
Btw pferdflecker, pretty much everything in the world, even those things that can occasionally astonish the brightest among us was designed by people with average IQs to be used by people with average IQs and that "dummy" you so despise might just be a whiz at electronics, carpentry, history, philosophy or any number of other things he could run circles around the typical Mensan on.
But you will never know that if you refuse to listen.
virago1776 3 years ago
You know what..being smart and being a good person are two different thing.
I wonder? Did you and your Mensa buddy did anything for the world? No you play puzzles instead. Why? you probably think of the probabilities and find it not worth doing anything. But to ignore the problem, ain't that evil too?
So we shall all just disappear if we are stupid? I only got a above average IQ, and i am amazed at how some smart people can solve problem easily.
Being smart does not equal to being great
KiraDevilSame 2 years ago
pferdflecker, You know the trouble in this world are sometime cause by people like you too.

Mensa is fun because you don't have to put up with some moron in the conversation who thinks he knows everything.
pferdflecker 3 years ago
Wtf? You sound like the moron in the group who thinks they know everything. Social ability and intelligence are not direct correlations.

TwinMountain 3 years ago
Sounds like an elborate scheme to get people into swinging. Why only people over forty?
anthwhite91 3 years ago
Because I've already raised kids and I have nothing further to say to children. I'm guessing you're not in Mensa...
TwinMountain 3 years ago
Why are you predjudice to people based on the amount of times they have circled the sun?
Why would you assume I'm not in Mensa?
anthwhite91 3 years ago
Because you sound like an imbecile.
TwinMountain 3 years ago
I think you sound more like an imbecile.
towafit 3 years ago
towafit, I don't think you can think.

Are you familiar with the meaning of ad hominem, pferdflecker?
Devourer09 3 years ago
Of course I know the meaning of ad hominem... I'm a Mensa member. Vocabulary is one of the single best indicators of intelligence, and is the foundation for a number of I.Q. tests, including the Stanford-Binet which is one of the most popular. If you have a 132 on the Stanford-Binet, you, too can join Mensa ( and then you wouldn't have to ask such questions....)
pferdflecker 3 years ago
even though i try not to judge someones intelligence from their vocabulary, it does seem to be a good indicator of intelligence.
Although i am not a mensa member, i had the opportunity to join awhile back, but decided not to, due to the negative stigma. i suppose i will take the test again (good benefits, lol).
Anastasius37 3 years ago
Even though I can speak with a good vocabulary at places such as school for example, I just don't do it, I speak like everyone.
I prefer adapting myself to the environment, then when I am with smarter people, I can use the better vocabulary :)
Though I hate the *wannabe smart* people who think they are intelligent because they try hard to speak with a good vocabulary, so they speak to people with big words even though they aren't really smart, just trying to be.
Chicohuman 3 years ago
chico, i definitely agree with you completely, i don't use my large vocabulary unless a situation presents itself were use of a large vocabulary is appropriate.
*phew* finals are over with for the quarter, lol, i am glad to be on break.
Anastasius37 3 years ago
Good point. Vocabulary is a good indicator of intelligence, but it isn't the only indicator. One doesn't need to use 10 dollar words to get a message across, and in fact, many use unnecessarily large vocabularies to try to impress folks.

Bottom line, you could misjudge someone's intelligence if you were to judge by the vocabulary, lot of people with good vocabulary just don't use it often

You can only take the Mensa test once. If you have passed it already, they still have your results. If you failed it, you can't take it again. You can, however, submit one of the other approved tests listed on their web site.
pferdflecker 3 years ago
Here are some vocabulary words for you: pompous, arrogant, and dictatorial. Having to flaunt your intelligence proves your lack thereof.
Thycid 3 years ago
Not true, your own lower I.Q. is showing with this statement. Swartzennegger flexing his muscles does not "prove his lack thereof". Flaunting one's intelligence may be undignified, but it certainly doesn't prove anything.
pferdflecker 3 years ago
True, but it can prove a sense of inferiority or insecurity. Plus one might take into consideration your lack of intelligence due to your desire to carry on meaningless arguments with strangers via youtube comments. Of course I as well suffer from that condition too. :-/
Thycid 3 years ago

Latin for table, Spanish for stupid.

ok, for starters, I didnt get your stupid joke. I can't understand why they roll their eyes and call you a "stupid table", everytime you do something dumb. For seconds, you suck penguin ass. Lastly but not leastly, they miss you on Brokeback Mountain. You stupid table.

cockbreath1 -Your opinion is absolutely irrelevant to me.
Except for this response I have no intention of communiocating with you.
You are dismissed.

Assclown.

Interesting to see how so many people who aren't smart enough to get into Mensa always have the strongest opinions about it... usually negative. Looks like "dumb" is defined as opining on a subject about which one knows absolutely nothing.

I should make something like why I hate Mensa.
It at least isn't hard for me.

Mensa is easy to get into. It aint giga
milfballs 3 years ago
Yes, one can easily fall into MENSA without too much trouble simply by passing the exam. We do have "elitist" members but they are that way in life normally and it has nothing to do with MENSA. The true scholars I know are not "elitist" at all but rather are humble, gentle spirits and would never look down on anyone. These are my friends. The true spirit of MENSA abhors those who use their smarts to insult others.
