Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you're doing and listen........CANNONBALL!
@aless0410 hmm yo creo en Dios pero aca no creo que tenga nada que ver, por ejemplo hace poco una niña murio carbonizada en su casa, dirias que Dios tuvo que ver?
Christopher Brewer, 27, plunged 876ft after his parachute failed to open properly in Fayetteville, West Virginia
Mr Brewer, from Pensacola, Florida, suffered a pelvic fracture, lung injuries and a spine injury, Jeff West, chief ranger for New River Gorge National River, told the Register-Herald.
He suffered a spinal cord separation and is a 19 year old that will be paralyzed for life. He tried to be talked out of it by many more experienced jumpers but chose his own path........
@flyboy8501 Brian Germain calls it "psychological momentum". Same reason an A-license jumper will try to fly camera, downsize to a pillow case, or jump when the winds are howling.
@specialkaye87 yea he had just got back from the netherlands and parts of europe and did over 100 proximity flights, people told him it wasnt a good idea. good thing is hes still alive and jokes about it just like his usual self. im sure he learned from this and we are trying to talk him into letting us watch his footage from his gopro
@flyboy8501 dude, i wouldn't want to watch the footage from his GoPro! You can tell he knew what he was doing cause he nailed the exit spot on, perfect body position, but in the Netherlands, you're exiting a 900ft cliff with a short draw at the bottom of it followed by another 900 foot drop, followed by another draw, and so on and so on. So you can fly for quite awhile.
@MrHolliday01 He survived. I just cant stop watching this. I had my heapdhones in and its eerie hearing the kid say "Hes not using his parachute" amongst a silent crowd right before he hits. Lucky man.
He starts his opening maneuvre just 2 seconds before he hits the water with a falling speed of 120km/h, that means he's approximately 66m above the river. It's definitely a stupid mistake rather than a chute malfunction...
I watched him dropping but could not watch when it became apparent that his chute was not opening at a high enough level. Hope he recovers. It was a beautiful day at the bridge and many jumpers had the time of their life. there is no room for error in this sport.
this guy did not land a wing suit he ment to deploy but didmt have enuff altitute to inflat his canopy. jeb also mentioned he wantd to land and get up and do it agin .
From my point of view (I am NOT a basejumper, but I have filmed many jumps already): Isn´t the height of about 900 feet absolutely too less for a wingsuit jump? It is quiet well-known that a wingsuit starts working only after 300 feet minimum, and you can see that there: 5 sec (!) vertical falling, only 3sec gliding, than throwing the parachute and impact only 2sec later!
I think using a wingsuit at this bridge makes absolutely NO sense, am I right? That was a jump with too much risk!
@dannystrasser Yes, you are right. There is simply not enough time to gain any significant forward momentum before you have to pull your chute. I'm pretty sure this guy got distracted by paying more attention to his forward velocity than his vertical.
@takemehiking Yup same here. And in any other sport to hear the announcer like 5 minutes later saying "We just got word that the jumper IS ALIVE" would be extremely strange and seem a little too exagerated but in this circumstance it was absolutely necessary because i'm pretty sure the thousands of people including myself lined up watching over the bridge had thought they just saw someone die.
@buioso no he had a pilot chute in tow malfunction he was trying a low pull but his pilot chute got stuck hhe is alive with a spinal injury and a lung injury
@pmny119 I have seen a PC in tow and this is not the case. I witnessed this in person and know that he pulled so low that he only had enough time to get the PC to bridle extension. This is purely pilot error not a gear problem. We call this retard low back home.
This video is very real people. He is in fact still alive and is stable, however has many injuries and is in a lot of pain. I will continue to pray for him.
all of you assholes posting stupid insensitive shit, this is a early 30's guy who is paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life. so good luck with Karma, i hope there are some pricks there to post for you when you get yours.
@teej750 thanks man chris is a friend of mine and many and he needs support right now. He is doing better and hopefully he will be able to walk again one day.
@flyboy8501 I'm a rappeller and was on rope underneath the bridge when he hit. Although I was not looking, I heard the splash which sounded much like a cannon. We will keep him in our very best thoughts and prayers.
Here's an idea coming from a jumper that was at the event. Rather than only putting this video up so potential jumpers can "learn" from this (if that's really the reason you posted the video) set up some sort of way to donate to this guy, who is still ALIVE, to help pay for the medical bills that are going to haunt him for the rest of his life.
@nmatera we are working on this hopefully I am heading to our home dz this weekend and talking to all our friends about it, chris is the most humble guy anybody could know, he loves life has served our country and did a tour in iraq. he needs our support right now.
@nmatera ehm dont want to be rude, but why donate to this guy? i mean its very unfortunate for him what has happened, but dont you think that this was his own fault and that he clearly took the risk of exactly that to happen? i hope he gets better soon and that he will be able to fully walk again and stuff but i prefer to donate to people who really need help.
@Laturbo good point laturbo, he knew the risks and it is unfortunate... but when you choose to exploit someones misfortunes at least don't do so in vain.
He survived and has been stabilized but has spinal injuries. We should all be keeping him in our thoughts and/or prayers. Although I'm not sure of his name I do know he is only 27 years old.
