  • Been using these. Overall, good. They are 85kbps. My speedtest on my WiFi any router is 5.5meg download but on the extender is only 0.5meg download. Looking at upgrading to some 200kbps ones. They are best suited if you can't locate your home pc near the telephone point.

  • Having big problems with the internet dropping using a usb wi-fi dongle. Will one of these solve this?

  • Can you use the ethernet socket and the wi-fi at the same time?

  • do you know where i could get one?

  • They don't work in all the plug sockets in my house.. it depends how your house is wired.

  • Don't bother ringing Customer Technical Services for Devolo unless you want to spend all day on the phone waiting whilst paying per minute for the call. A good way of making money.

  • These are illegal in the EU.

  • @Ayrshore

    no they aint

  • @metroidgoodsuit Yes they are. Read the Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2006.

  • How do I activate the WEP on it? And how do I change the name of the wireless network so it's the same as the router? This will avoid my laptop changing to another wireless network when I go from room to room.

    thanks

  • Just a question the two devices he used for the wifi extender are connected on the same ring circuit in the house? Nice explanation

  • I've got one of those, it works great, better than the livebox itself. What I want to know though, is how you configure it (WAP, DHCP etc.). I tired htto://192.168.0.1 but nogo. How do you get into it in admin mode?

    Sil

  • what if your router doesnt have a spare ethernet socket?

  • did he use a single unit or a double unit?

  • what, he tested it in the same room!!?? what a total waste of timeobv gonna work, how about whether it works in a big office 60 metres away??

  • The principle is still the same, he is boosting his signal, the same would be true from an internet connection... So continue rolling on the floor laughing...

    Idiot.

  • No he DIDNT, he was using network shares most likely from a NAS device attached elsewhere in his house. So it was local in the sense that it was on his NETWORK, but not his actual Computer.. I know this by the icon on the folder he clicked indicted that it was a network share, not local.

    Make sense now ?

    Thought not.

  • I really dont get it, its just copying a file what it got ot do witht he internet

  • Nothing to do with the net. Its to do with his home network signal, if its poor for copying a file from one computer in his house to another then it would be poor for accessing the net. What he is showing here is that with home plugs he can copy files on his home network faster so this would also be true for downloading files from the net...

  • Look at 4.45 and you will see that all the folders in the window are NOT local, they all have network share icons....

    Nice try, but you FAIL.

    lol

  • what the heck is rooter? I thought its a router

  • would this work for location free tv if i was to plug one end into the my router and the other in the location base player?

  • Have you ever tried setting the Devolo HomePlug wireless access point up with the same SSID and security settings as the router? If you do it this way and have the channel set to a different one to the router, you can allow simple "cellular-style" roaming between upstairs and downstairs.

  • Good well made video.

    Thank you!

  • r u going to kansas any time soon?

  • how could you confuse those two plugs?

    Really nice video though.

  • I love these devices how they send signals through the power cables how do they work?

  • Nice one for the video ,I am still amazed by this little invention.

  • Got a some devolo Adapters at my home. Love'em. I'd go for the 200Mbps Version which is way better than any Wi-Fi network in terms of stabiliity. If you got really fast internet like 32 Mbps that one is an absolute must. You won't get 32 Mbps over WiFi otherwise.

  • lol, the "Roota"

  • It's called English, mate! lol, the rooderrr

  • lol, I know, it's just funny xD

  • You "route" information, you don't "ROWT" it.

  • man this is a good video

such a rarity nowdays in utube

    5 stars

  • Can you plug an ethernet cable from the labtop into the receiving adaptor or do you have to use wifi ?

  • It has one Ethernet socket, so you can use that instead of Wi-Fi if you wish.

  • @WebUserMagazine can you use both at the same time? eg, ethernet plugged into a laptop and the wifi signal for smartphone?

  • or you can connect the other end to another router

  • Can you still use encryption like WEP or WPA?

  • Yes, the unit supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption.

  • thanks

  • smidge146 yes it does ...

  • so does the signal run through the mains? like the powerline system?

  • That's right. So you've got your router elsewhere in the house, sending signals through your electrical wiring to the Wi-Fi Extender. This then acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot, so you can get a good Wi-Fi signal, even if you're not getting it direct from your router.

  • it also works if you directly connect it to the modem

  • wow thats just what i need how much was it and were did you get it from?

  • They're about £130 on Amazon. But shop around - you may be able to find it cheaper.

  • I could have demonstrated that in 20 seconds

    but i liked it

  • yeah he could have atlest cut it down 2 2miniutes but nope it took ages talking and sounded constipaded wen he moved thecouch very exciting video haha

  • It's a heavy couch.

  • jesus christ - you said "ERMMM" a total of *74* times!

it would be easier to move the router

  • Erm, thanks for counting them!

  • Thank you for this, very useful.

  • excellent product-but too expensive!

  • Thenks, the video was very useful

  • Nice one Cyril!
