I'm not a musician but want to make one of these contraptions; in your opinion, do the surface pickups produce a substantially better sound than the 2 dollar Piezos? Most people seem to go the Altoid can route so I'm wondering if there's some value in using an enclosed "can"?
@Kathyplumb Hi Kathy I have a few DB's some have piezo's and others surface pups. Depends on the sound you want to get, The piezo altoid box does give a tinnier sound but if you want to use a bow like I do at the end off my diddley bow blues part 2 song, you get a better sound with the piezo but for plucking and picking the surface pups gives a richer sound. Hope this helps. Let me know how it turns out.
@Ukeman7 I've heard of many different ways to make this with bottles and altoid tins adnd otherwise, what do you think sounds best for a delta blues style with a big fat tone?
