The song "Summer Wind" influenced The Ataris and was a jukebox and radio hit in the 80s by Chris Hillman & his group The Desert Rose Band. Chris HIllman was an original member of The Byrds in the 1960s, known for songs such as Turn Turn Turn, Eight Miles High and Mr. Tambourine Man. You won't find many bands like The Ataris who are influenced by diverse music such as The Desert Rose Band, who mixed rock with folk, country and power pop. Guitarist John Jorgenson was an early punk-country icon.
anyway, thanks for posting, the mean fiddler gig was awesome, unfortunately the brum gig was really disappointing, they played an 'alright' set but there was no atmosphere in the crowd :(
I have to agree with chris who posted earlier, I saw the ataris both in birmingham (at academy 2) and at this show this year and the fan base in brum was pretty much dead- I couldnt believe the lack of support for them, I was one of the only people in the audience who was singing and everyone was pretty much static!! interesting to note that the ataris played 2 sell out nights at the astoria in 2004 compared to this year!
mine, too. he's just a god! I love how he plays his songs. summerwind was... is my favourite too!!! I love the version of this song on the 3 track "The Ataris live" promo-CD! micha.
This was the last gig I went to at this venue. It's been destroyed now... such a waste.

@hectorsalina I thought it was actually a reference to Frank Sinatra's summerwind, he also sings it in the song :-)
