Their songs are not that simple actually. It seens quite simple, but almost every coldplay song is made with diferent tunnings on the guitars, And he uses very dificult chords, most of them using his thumb. If you study them you will se its not that simple to play.

The thing I love about Chris Martin is that he's not a great guitarist, he's not a perfect singer, but he's a damn brilliant songwriter and says more with one chord than most bands do with an entire song.

I mean, I'm not even great but I'm better than him. Now as far as singing goes, he's reallyyyyy got me there.

I just don't see why he would be holding back. So I just assume everything he writes on the guitar is his best because why wouldn't he do better if he could?

@perryjames123 No offence or anything, but he really didn't do anything that great. It sounds really nice and everything, but you don't have to be a really good guitarist to play or make up something like this. But i'm not saying this doesn't sound great, it really does. :)

From a technical standpoint, yeah, maybe he's not technically an amazing guitarist with intricate and complex riffs (Though, he does use interesting chord variations). But that doesn't lessen his ability to express an intensity of emotions, in fact, it's that much more impressive because of his simplicity. He doesn't rely on complications to compose, he relies on raw emotion, just like a "great" musician does.

But I shouldn't really say anything. I wanted a Les Paul-styled guitar for the same reason at 13, but I didn't tell anyone that it was "better" than another. I matured early I guess :) There's hope for you.

@comeade Actually, I just enjoy Martin guitars more than Takamines, partly because they, like Taylor's, have too much high end to them. They're very thin sounding guitars, unlike Martins. Even Martin's OM or 000 models, which have smaller bodies, sound more full and have more presence than a Takamine or a Taylor. And to the "Mind of your own" comment, I just enjoy the sound my favorite artists produce. I've tried out many other brands, and have decided Martins are the best for me.
