i am sure that hyena made the kill. male ans sub adult male lion nearly always scavenge their foods especially from hyenas. did you see those hyenas. i just gathered that whenver the lion charged a hyena, the others ran towards him. i suspect if that lion had got hold of one hyena, the others would have charged and killed the male lion.

This is crazy. I read somewhere that Hyenas never provoke maneless males b/c their size and testosterone levels make them d**n deadly. Guess i read wrong.
That's what we suspected, but we could not confirm it. You will see that most of the hyenas had already eaten; they have a lot of blood on them. I am sure that is why they did not challenge the lions more persistently. The hyenas who came back after the first lion left the kill had likely not eaten or not eaten much.
Unfortunately we have to leave before we saw the final outcome of the encounter. I did post some more video of the encounter after Parts 1 and 2. Search on masaimike1
@masaimike1 verry nice video, saw them several times.... the two male lions are not that old, give them two three years and they are in there prime aren't they...how many hyna's where there in total?... i think the two lions, could keep the prey cause it ware male lions, with females and such a big clan hyena's the outcome would be diffrent ....
@samantha103 If I remember correctly, at the time this specific video was shot, there were 17 hyenas present. Earlier, there were 21 or 22 I think. Some left, maybe because they were not motivated to keep hanging around. I suspect that the hyenas who left first were already well fed, and further confrontation with the two lions was not worth any risk of injury.
These males are young nomadic lions, probly freshly kicked out by their fathers from the pride they were born in. By the looks of it, I think they are about 2 years old. pretty impressive that they stood their ground, given their young age.

i am sure that hyena made the kill. male ans sub adult male lion nearly always scavenge their foods especially from hyenas. did you see those hyenas. i just gathered that whenver the lion charged a hyena, the others ran towards him. i suspect if that lion had got hold of one hyena, the others would have charged and killed the male lion.

This is crazy. I read somewhere that Hyenas never provoke maneless males b/c their size and testosterone levels make them d**n deadly. Guess i read wrong.

That's what we suspected, but we could not confirm it. You will see that most of the hyenas had already eaten; they have a lot of blood on them. I am sure that is why they did not challenge the lions more persistently. The hyenas who came back after the first lion left the kill had likely not eaten or not eaten much.

@masaimike1 verry nice video, saw them several times.... the two male lions are not that old, give them two three years and they are in there prime aren't they...how many hyna's where there in total?... i think the two lions, could keep the prey cause it ware male lions, with females and such a big clan hyena's the outcome would be diffrent ....

@samantha103 If I remember correctly, at the time this specific video was shot, there were 17 hyenas present. Earlier, there were 21 or 22 I think. Some left, maybe because they were not motivated to keep hanging around. I suspect that the hyenas who left first were already well fed, and further confrontation with the two lions was not worth any risk of injury.

These males are young nomadic lions, probly freshly kicked out by their fathers from the pride they were born in. By the looks of it, I think they are about 2 years old. pretty impressive that they stood their ground, given their young age.
