How to Add RAM to a Computer : Troubleshooting RAM & Computer Memory

i just added 8 gb RAM to my 4 GB 64 bit windows 7 pc.

And it seams that windows only can detect 10 gb and not 12 gb.

But my other programs can detect 12 gb...

help...

I have a dell optiplex gx270 and I wanted to upgrade the memory with ddr2, but when I opened the desktop it had 4 sticks of 128mb ddr inside. Not sure if should I just add the ddr2 memory to the computer or find bigger sticks of ddr?

i had 2gb ram(ddr2 800) installed and added another 2gb ram(ddr2 800) on another slot of my Gigabyte(g41) mobo .. and it said "4.00 GB (3.2 GB usable)"

my mobo supports dual channel memory .. pls help.

@wrektime1 you are probebly using a 32 bit operating system and a 32 bit OS can only handle 4gb inkl. all other memory in your system such as grafics card's memory etc.

1. Make sure your memory stick are compatible (like both Dimms) by checking online sources.

2. I had a complete crash until I figured out you must put the 1 gb stick in slot 0 and the 512 mb(old memory already in machine) in slot 1. I was able to mix sizes and manufacturers by putting the larger memory in the first available slot on the motherboard. Good luck!

my computer has a 1g of ram but when i did a scan norton 360 an it said it only has 512mb of ram ? but when i push the start key + pause/brack to bring the system info it says it has 1g of ram???

I recently bought a 2gb ram chip and I go to install it, and it doesnt fit in the slot!! I held both of them side by side and I could see the little notch in the middlle wasnt exactly in the same spot..... why is that?

There are many different types of RAM.. suc as:

ddr., ddr2., ddr3.,.....

That is because the RAM that you bought is not the same type as the RAM you already have. There are SDRAM (quite old and has two notches), after that goes DDR, DDR 2, DDR 3 (probably you have one of them and you bought another), each of them working on higher frequency than the previous.

it's because that isnt the type of memory chip that your card needs..

ive upgraded my ram from 1gb to 2gb ive installed bothe the 1gb ram and then i turn my pc on it beeps about 4 times a second. It seems to work with a mixture of 1gb and a 512mb ram. Any ideas why it dosnt work and how i can get it to work?

NEVER EVER use different types of ram. Ether stick with 512's or 1gb's.
