@jimmyjazzmarco91 It's "Excursions" written by Alex Foster, it was on his first album "Beginning Goodbye" and is also on his latest album under the name "3 Cursion"
Indeed, Hiram touched many young and aspiring guitarists like myself during the 80's...My first reaction the first time I heard him play with Sanborn was basically WTF is that...? Absolutely incredible vibe and sound...!
They deserved a better drummer - the hi-hats are often off and he is placing the snare way too behind. Kinda kills the tension this type of groove needs.
This vid doesnt really begin until 6:20 mark when Hiram starts creepin in with his solo. Classic early Hiram too - more subtle yet every bit of his usual statement. This guy has such a way of groovin' in his improv I cant get enough, a true natural. in The world's loss that he didnt get to record even more than he did.
Thanks so much for posting this! Hiram was such an immense talent and left us far too soon. There was no one like him. His playing AND his overall approach to the instrument were impossibly original. I'm amazed yet again in seeing this performance for the first time. The quickness of mind, inventiveness, harmonic sophistication, surprises at every turn, emotion, and of course, his incredible sense of humor & showmanship. A true master and one of the greatest artists of all time on the guitar.
He was always a nice guy and was very kind and encouraging to me as a young Bassist. God Bless You Hiram. Check out Hiram' solo on Spyro Gyra's "Incognito"
I remember seeing this when I was a kid like 13 years old. My sax teacher at the time had this vid and I was blown away by Hiram's solo. So melodic! So logical, musical. It's almost like no other combination of notes would have sounded as perfect.
does anyone know the name of the song?

Love your mellow sound. All on the same page musically. Love it when it all comes together like this.

Hiram was one of those Guitarists that when he played you felt his emotion and feel! Big inspiration to me when I was beginning to play.
