  • Erik is the reason I went and bought a JM1000. And I tell you, I'm so glad I did, nothing I've ever owned even comes close to the sound of this thing.

  • what headphones are those?

  • sounds aalllot like Aerial Boundaries by Michael Hedges in the beginning

  • I can play this. Oh wait.....no I can't.

  • Does he use open chord tuning?

  • @mr1168726 He uses CCDGAD. E down to C. A up to C. D is the same. G is the same. B down to A. E down to D.

  • @dajiaoma77777 Thanks Mate. I play a lot in open E, never really tried to tune any other way than standard and "E". Take Care Eh?

  • if my right he used a Fender CD60 guitar? . .tHat Guitar is Awes0me Fender CD60 . . .Anyway .Nice Playing Man .. 5Star .

  • @shoiabrigana This guitar is not a Fender, it is a Rainsong. It is made of 100% carbon fiber. You can't get sound like this out of a $200 guitar.

  • @shoiabrigana It's a RainSong JM1000 with Fishman Prefix+T electronics installed. 100% carbon fiber. A guitar like this costs $2000, where a Fender acoustic will cost like $450 and sound awful in comparison. Also bear in mind that the guitar you're watching above is the loudest jumbo acoustic on the market.

  • this song always reminds me of the desert and westerns

  • @incendio1988

thats wierd. it reminds me more of pirates and the sea.

  • i love this song so much. totally inspired by this everyday.

  • Whoa That dude looks like Erik Mongrain

  • @bryan5091 well its vin diesel so.....

  • @42ML51 haha your awesome

  • the timming of theis video is off from the auido

  • I love to see guys exploit the percussive qualities of the guitar.

  • hey fuck you 8 who disliked its hard to find people who are compelled to be original not by choice but a natural born leader isnt born everyday

  • @TheMikePeden tell that to my dad u would be doing me a favor lol

  • Wszyscy mówią, że ten głupi Justin Bieber (nie lubię go więc powinnam to pisać z małej litery, ale nich będzie) ma talent.

Są oni w błędzie. Erik Mongrain to ma dopiero talent. Zauważcie... on to robi z wielką precyzją. A Bieber? On kwiczy jak Tatiana Okupnik przed Heliosem w Katowicach a nawet gorzej. Jeśli to czyta jakiś fan Biebera to bez obrazy, ale takie jest moje zdanie.

    Super wykonanie Erik...

  • Are there tabs for sale for this song?

  • how much weed does this guy smoke? xD

  • lol I will never get enough of people who think they know what is difficult to play on guitar when they don't play one or have barely played one. Is this a weird way to play guitar? Absolutely. Is it amazingly difficult? Absolutely not. Let me see him play a RHCP solo and then I will be impressed.

  • @MrDapotpie Red hot chili peppers? haha

  • @MrDapotpie Red hot chili peppers? haha Id have to say interdependence and coordination is more impressive than the classic guitar solo. Of course depending on who plays is ad how its played. I dont remember much of solos from red hot chili peppers. Maybee your talking another band

  • @MrDapotpie

Try playing Airtap, then tell me if his style of playing is difficult or not.

  • @MrDapotpie Let me see John Frusciante (or their current guitarist) play Erik's song "A Ripple Effect" and I will be impressed!

  • @MrDapotpie I hope that's a joke. No chili peppers solo comes anywhere near this difficulty level. If it's so easy you upload your cover of this, seen as you're so against people who "don't play or have barely played guitar"

  • did u notice his thumbnail ? duuude!! great music anyway

  • loving the folkyness of this track

  • 8 people fail at life.

  • @oneblackbelt4god

Really? You're going to make the statement that because 8 people don't like this (I am not one of those people just FYI) that they fail at life? The only person who has failed here is you for condemning your fellow man for not liking the same art as you. Music is art and therefore anyone can like or dislike it for any reason they want. There is no right or wrong in music.

  • @MrDapotpie I couldn't agree more. There is no right or wrong. All music is beautiful no matter the style or artist. On those grounds I feel very justified in criticizing those who criticize music.

  • Friggin amazing... Great guitar playing!

  • What tuning is this in??? Cus im trying to figure out how to play it.

  • @d7reischl7 i think open d minor

  • @d7reischl7 i think open d minor and down a few steps

  • GEEZUS!! Thats a carbon fiber guitar!!! Those project sound like nothing else!! Awesome!!

  • It doesn't matter that his nail is as big as his guitar... he is one of the best guitar players around the world!

  • It's such a privilege to see him play.

  • I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO DO THIS!

  • Erik is amazing !! so far the only other acoustic fingerstyle guitar player I have seen that is in his category is Pierre Bensusan !!

  • I agree with Joshdaugherty1111 this and many other of his songs sound very Tool-esque Erik and his songs r phenomenal

he is a genius and this video is mesmerizing.......altho there seems 2 b a malfunction at about 1:15 where the vid doesnt match the audio which is annoyin lol

  • truly inspiring!!

  • this guy is soo good

  • this man is my new favorite guitarist

  • 0:14 = Too much awesomeness.

  • Erik is wicked. Came clean about the sheer hard work and countless hours of constant practice to get to this level . Completely debunks the 'gifted' trap. Practice, practice, practice. Don't like the guitar though, personal taste, most people love them.

    Rock on Erik.

  • @GibsonHummingbird Yeah the rainsong guitars are just like any other guitar i played.. nothing special about them and they cost a FORTUNE!.. anyways I agree with you about countless hours of practice.. sheesh If I practiced as much as this guy I would only be half as good as him ahaha..Thumbs Up from meh =D

  • tres bien fait eric

  • tool>? wtf

  • gosh i want a rainsong

  • kinda sounds like iron maidan

  • ah fuck! no tabs anywhere!

  • this guy is so talented im jealous

  • after 1:40 it seems that the sound is getting mixed up , the videos fault

  • it does my heart good to hear the older generation calling us gifted instead of drug addicts.^^

  • This is still probably my favorite song, what a masterpiece

  • Thats a mother fuckin super jumbo body

  • @nothcumber Yes my man, this thing gets the neihbours annoyed 3 floors down.

  • is it just me or is that guitar the size of my house

  • hes a tappin god

  • hmmm you dont comes up without something behind hit.

  • @RiouxItsMe

    Very True

  • @Bert8151993 Actually it's not. Quite easy actually. The hard part is writing the song.

  • @MrGameposter thats true

  • I've watched like all the Erik Mongrain videos now. not a single missed note out the thousands per song. omg... not even AMAZING matches the describes this guy. more like god-like. or heavenly

  • Fuck the healthy midget into the cool breeze of the night. Suck its pinky toe with eyes tightly closed. Tears will be shed. Those are the tears of hell, warm and exhausting like month of august beating down apone your face.

  • souch amazing flow and melody from only one guitar!!! :O erik mongrain just replaced god!

  • fuuuck me. thats.. omg

  • how can u be that perfect each time..

  • that is a "thumb nail" nc

anyways.. this guy is probably one of the best contemporary artists ive seen in a while, and he should be a inspiration to all would-be guitarists.

  • He creaes as textured a sound as a quartet of guitarists might.

  • I CAME

  • fuck. enough said.

  • Amazing. Looks like a skinny Vin Deasel hahaha

  • @BboyElectrick except he has talent.

  • @BboyElectrick Looks, looks looks..... Close your eyes and listen to this and it will tell you more about this person than appearances ever could, probably think about what I've just said.. Look at how your brain works.

  • @HarmPoy LOL wtf are you talking about dude? I did listen, hence why I said "Amazing"..

  • @BboyElectrick The first thing you did was comment, the second thing you did was compare his looks to a celebrity.. interesting thought process.

  • @HarmPoy I'd been watching him for a while and just thought that up when I posted that comment A YEAR AGO. Jeeze dude, get a life.

  • Der soielt einfach mal sooo geil^!!!

  • Its a rainsong acoustic. Their new Black Ice series is very nice.

  • He's amazing but that thumb nail is gross.

  • its more likley a clip on nail thing rather than his finger nail.

  • It's not a thumb nail, it's a finger plec, it just slides on the finger.

  • It IS his nail. Look at 2:35. Typical thumb plectrum is made of colourful plastic sooooo...it would be visible if he was using it.

Sorry for any orthographic mistakes ;)

  • It is clearly a Lee press on nail french manicure edition style #235.....Not that i would know such things. O.o But on a side note wow this is some good music. :)

  • Ok now, take it easy sister. Sorry not everyone's goal is to be a dainty little princess like you.

  • Some guitarists grow out a few of the nails on their right hand so they can pluck the strings easier.

  • WOW! It's a Composite Acoustic! I've never seen another one. There was a guitar store by me that had 3 of them...this one (biggest body style...known as a dreadnought, I believe), a normal sized one and a really thin one. The thin one is, to this day, my favorite acoustic...I think their site is caguitars (dot) com.

  • Just got from seeing Erik play live and I spoke to him after the show to ask why isn't this tune on any of his CDs and he told me it was a really old tune he wrote he didn't think it was good enough to make it to CD and that he couldn't remember how to play it!!

  • why is his guitar so big?

  • I think it is bigger to really help the lower strings ring out more since he seems to have it tuned much lower than E-Standard and uses a lot of open strings in his tapping.

  • to give the notes a higher sustainability

  • Amazing!!

  • is his guitar carbon fiber?

  • I really don't think so. It may just be laminated wood, but then again I'm no expert on acoustic guitars. Carbon fiber wouldn't resonate enough for an acoustic guitar.

  • It's graphite.

  • it's graphite, which is a form of carbon

  • Dry carbon would resonate well enough for an acoustic guitar.

  • Yes, this is a carbon fiber guitar.

  • let me clarify, its actually a graphite compound, not dissimilar from other carbon fiber instruments, but its manufactured ina different way

  • it can have a cover of carbon fiber, its not too dificult to aplicate on a guitar, so its possible that is a carbon fiber guitar

  • its graphite

  • pure talent

  • It does my heart good to see the younger generation doing the unconventional

  • @kainthornn Thank you very much, I really take that as a compliment to my generation.

  • @jorael1232 Wow, I didn't know my comment was popular! You're quite welcome!

  • @is a 16 year old instrumental rock player unconventional enough o.o?(some neoclassical thrown in)

  • @kainthornn Unconventional? Guitar was MADE to do that! We're just now figuring it out. HEAVY WOOD!!!! eeer carbon fiber....ahem.... :)

  • sounds like something Tool would play

  • @joshdaugherty1111

You being a Tool should know.

  • @bnog316

Tool is a band. It was a compliment.

  • @joshdaugherty1111 yeah! Maynard should totally sing over some of his stuff it sound pretty dayum good i reckon!

  • @joshdaugherty1111 yeah! Maynard should totally sing over some of his stuff it would sound pretty dayum good i reckon!

  • @joshdaugherty1111 You're absolutly correct in the timing/style. Great comparison.

  • @joshdaugherty1111 it does doesnt it...... very interesting and cool

  • i agree with you

  • Does anybody have tabs or something to this song, please answear me.

  • erik has tabs on his website

  • Not for this song though. People have been asking on his forums for a long time. He doesn't seem to want to distribute the tabs for Timeless which is a great shame.

  • He says he cant remember how too play it :P

  • so then timeless isn't so timeless after all.

  • lol, big enough guitar?

  • the guitar isnt really big at all i've played one

  • That's quite a lie, rainsong makes one of the biggest jumbos on the market.

  • It's a Rainsong graphite guitar. Pretty nice, though I have yet to play one I like the sounds I've heard from them.

  • what guitar is this?

  • awesome:)

  • hello vin's bro ;)

    awesome play

  • This guy is awesome! talented! check out John butlers song Ocean! most beautiful song in my opinion!

  • straight out of michael hedges book!

  • Never a truer word spoken

  • i want that guitar!!!

  • he looks like Vin diesel a liltle bit, Don't you agree

  • I do agree :)

  • now that you mention it...

  • this is 1 of thre best acoustic arrangements ive ever heard

  • youtube really need to sort out the "comment limit exceeded thing" cause you have to type it then it refreshes the page, FUCK RIGHT OFF! lol

anyway this guy is epic, never heard him but just watched a few videos, shocked ive never stumbled across him before.very traditional sound to the progressions, very irish trad I guess, love it.

  • it's a shame you'd never heard Eric before. You could have seen a live concert of him playing his new album the day it came out from his home page off of a live feed. I'm glad you know of him now & you might like carlos vamos as well:)

  • does anyone else find that some old style songs even if supposedly they are in standard tuning always seem a bit of ... such as beat it , michael jackson ... ?

  • Halen deliberatly tuned his B string down a fraction to compensate for natural tonal drift. Sounds slightly off in the lower registers but works much better in the higher register. And his chords dont come out as muddy when distorted because the third isn't as far out as other guitarists.

  • in a lot of old recordings, the guitar and bass would tune to a piano, and sometimes the speed of the playback would differ from the recording speed, thus changing the pitch.

  • erik is amazing!! i dont like that halfway through this video though it goes out of sync.....is there another vid of this that stays in sync does anyone know?

  • haha holy shit you can actually see it go out of tune!

  • lols

    Out of Sync that is

  • well done^^

  • Yeah drop C is famously used in metal such as children of bodom and arch enemy but its actually not metal tuning its just dropped tuning even fleetwood change ther tunins a lil bit lol this guy is a timeless god

  • kids got skills

  • this is just timeless:P great job!

  • skill out of this world! superb!!

  • he is very good, it's sure!

  • sorry i ment E and A

  • The only thing I hate about playing fingerstyle acoustic is that there's always crazy tunings for EVERYTHING! And I don't know any of the chords or scales for fingerstyle; if there is any :x

  • uhhh no there's not. there are probly a lot of finger picking songs out there that i don't know of but i mostly finger pick and i have never came across a totally crazy tuning for any of the songs i play, usually only a half step down, double drop D or tuning E and G down a step. Not all that crazy.

  • I say they're crazy because I'm just not used to them. I'm starting to see a lot of DADGAD, but I've seen tuning the E string down to C and the rest down like 2 or 3 steps.

I switched to this from playing regular rock songs in standard tuning about 3 weeks ago so it's all new to me.

  • Drop C is a tuning used in metal..

  • Bah, it's no big deal! I'm just not used to the tunings; and that's my point.

Like for Antoine Dufour, he uses DADGCE in a couple of his songs, and Andy McKee's Keys to the Hovercar is ECDGAD. Also, La Derniere Pluie by Erik is A#A#DFGD.

  • Yeah, I know, I hate it myself :P But I was just saying that drop C is a normal tuning ;)

  • dropped tunings more common in metal but trust me its not a "metal" tuning by any means its just a dropped tuning

  • thiss guy is the best

  • He's amazing...on par with Andy Mckee...unfortunately, the long fingernails really creep me out. I understand they need to have long fingernails in order to play, but it's just so gross!

  • A lot of players actually use fake fingernails, so they don't actually have to grow them that long. Somewhat girly at first glance, but when you see what they do on the guitar, it doesn't matter anymore =P. Anyways, if you like McKee, you should check out Don Ross - he's one of the real greats of the genre.

  • Hey, thanks for the response to that!

  • you dont actually "need" long fingernails though. look at Tommy Emmanuel! He's flipping amazing but he uses the flesh of his fingers, which have now hardened so they sound like they're half-pick/half-flesh, which is cool! and i prefer that method personally

  • Actually Tommy uses a thumbpick, a trick he picked up from Chet Atkins, Erik uses acrylic nails but only on his thumb and index finger. Trace Bundy uses acrylic on all his right fingers but Andy McKee does not uses any finger nails.

  • oh yeah, i was assuming people knew about the thumbpick, thats obvious, cant miss the thing, lol, but apart from that he uses the flesh of his actual fingers which i find better coz i can actually feel the string, i hate using nails

  • Yeah, after a while you will develop calusses on your right hand, just like your left.

Unlike nails, they give a consistent sound. Also unlike nails, they don't break off.

  • damn.. i thought i didnt even like this kind of music.. madd props.

  • there was an issue when this vid was bein made theres a couple seconds lag between the audio nd video plus it skips out on both its an exellent song thou eric rules

  • anyone know why this guy is such a fucking G haha, like seriously

  • Nice player, just ran across his stuff. Definitely influenced by Michael Hedges. Take a listen to him if you like this stuff.

  • great video eric is the shit.
