OMG, .. I was only 2 years old in 1973, but I used to have a cheap-o Kmart cassette tape with the end of this very clip on it! My half sister, who was 9 at the time, watched this show the night this clip originally aired, and she ran and got her little transistor type tape recorder, but by the time she got it recording, she only got about the last 15 seconds. That tape, as far as I know, is long lost lol ...
this animation with the original verson of the song aired on the great space coster around 1979-80 were i remember seeing this the first time as well as this original verson aired on CBS affliate showing repeats of the comedy hour in the mid 70s
Just blown away--not only that you posted this, but because so many others remember it vividly, like I do, after not having seen it for 36 years.
It must have something to do with the fact that the only cartoons we had seen up until that point were Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse. Then all of a sudden, this animated mack-daddy pimp is strolling across the TV screen in prime time.
Been wanting to see it again ever since 1974. Thanks for posting.
I'm going to faint. I looked this up on a lark because I thought I was imagining remembering having seen this - I think it was 1973 and I remember that exact evening clearly: I was in Atlanta and my parents had just brought me and the siblings home from a family gathering, and of course we tuned in CBS that night at 7:00 pm. I remember seeing THIS EXACT CARTOON and having it burned into my memory. Later as an adult I swore Ralph Bakshi animated it. Not sure now. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!
Caught only the end of it back when it was broadcast first run in the "old days", back before VCR's and DVR's. The next day in school, the kids talked about how cool it was, and I missed it all this time. Til now. Thanks to you!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I remember seeing this on the Sonny and Cher show when it first aired in the early/mid 1970s. I ahven't seen it since then, at least 35 years ago, but I always remembered how "groovy" this video was! I was a big Jim Croce fan, even back then, so I always remembered this video. To eb able to go back a visit a distant memory is a priceless experience, THANKS!
Another great memory from my Childhood

The irony is the team behind this cartoon and other animation for Sonny & Cher went on to make the film "Shinbone Alley"
