No, "Heart of Darkness" was going to be his first movie, before "Citizen Kane." He wanted a young Lucille Ball for the female lead role of a different project also aborted before "Citizen Kane," called "The Smiler with a Knife." The studio (RKO) nixed Ball, but Welles didn't leave the studio then; he went on to make "Citizen Kane," "The Magnificent Ambersons," and "Journey into Fear." Then he got fired because of a change in studio administration, who painted Welles (falsely) as a money-waster.
Its a pity people with a bias against black and white films do not have the experience of savouring this demented masterpiece.with its weird camera angles and mad plotting.....worthy of a great tribute.
@MADWORLD1427 . No, I messed up things. The movie was going to be Heart of Darkness and it was the opposite that I thought. Orson wanted Lucille Ball to be the mean, cold, leading star and RKO didn't take her serious. So, he left the studio. I don't know if the movie was ever produced. It is based on the masterpiece of Joseph Conrad.
Another Welles Masterpiece....so glad to see you pay tribute to it...you did a good job here, and this is a "new" song for me; it was a different & happy twist you added to it!
Can anybody tell me if it was the lady from Sangai that made Orson Welles change to another studio, since the star they wanted was Lucille Ball adn Orson didn't accept her name?
Heya Kiddo : ) I must be losing it, cuz I could have SWORN I viewed, rated and stored this into my playlist this morning...I even said I put it there until I can store it in my fav's, which is pushed to the limit...lol!
I love this movie, with its atmosphere so dense. I even liker it better than Citizen Kane. Rita beuatiful as ever, although I prefer her brunette. The music was a great choice. Were Rita and Orson still married at the time of the movie?
cool the way all O.W.'s stylized shots were picked. Great Tune as well- I never heard it before in its entirety- THX for posting this.

While shooting "The Lady from Shanghai" Rita and Orson were separated but not divorced, yet.
