Where do you get ytong blocks? I have not actually looked at a hardware or garden store yet but when I googled it I didn't find anywhere that sells individual blocks, local or online. (I'm in Utah, USA)
That's up to you. Some people make many small rooms. Other make a couple big rooms. And it also depends on how big your colony is. You have to make bigger nests when the colony grows.

@Boeff82 in my home we have a large lasius niger colony the queens move around finding a suitable place to start a colony her sisters help her carry cacoons like thousands i caught a queen somewhere in my toilet and walla i put in my ant farm
@bentleyboy72 wait for the mating flight.. there alot of them flying near the light... mating flight occurs mostly on august, september and october but there might be a mating flight just after a raining period.
nice colony but dont use hebal brick (ytong) just get a block of wood and route out the tunnels so much better faster and no chemicals if u have carpenter ants like i do then u just use wood made of glue and saw dust (works wonders) :D glad to help
if you dont want to buy an ant online you can go outside on the nuptial flights (when the flying ants come out) and you will see giant ants on the floor on the evening. this is the winged ants after they have mated, just pick one up and put it in a container it should start laying eggs soon after. the nuptial flights are usually around june to august but vary on location and species.
thats stupid. the ants didn't have anything to do you gotta make it to where they're working all the time. they were just sitting there with all the eggs all clumped in there. you need to work on the construction of that.
! fire ant..... not the smartest to keep don't let out ur will get a belter of pains form there sting plus put in live food and watch tehm chase it ^^

No, when the queen of a Lasius niger colony dies the colony will die slowly.
Some other species have multiple queens or sometimes you can introduce a new queen with some species when the queen has died.

Ants will only dig if they need to, so if there is no need they can spend more time caring for the brood.
