The people who made Netscape were making the browser available for all the majour platforms, but Microsoft wanted their own browser for their operating system. Originally Microsoft Internet Explorer was about $24.95, I'll have to check the disc I bought a while ago, and the reason it was free was because other people were offering their's for free

@TwilightTriEdge To be frankly honest, all tests are usually rigged to show whats best about browser, Google is guilty of doing it also, there has never yet been a browser which beats it in its own v8 benchmarks. Microsoft will have made it so these use IE9 features more than Chrome or Firefox would. Really mis-leading but can you blame them? They really need all the help they can get.

@iJames93i Not necessarily, Fishtank is based off of html5, not specifically IE, Chrome's V8 benchmark however, is built for chrome.

Your right about the support for HTML5, but its mostly CSS that it lacks support in, and yes Chrome is way way way more secure as it runs sandboxed. I prefer the interface in IE9 compared to Firefox.
