  • Awesome review! I love my USN M1. It's everything I need at a great price. The most bang for your buck for sure.

  • Gosh Darn you Mike! Everytime you do a knife review I find my wallet getting thinner and my collection growing larger. Being as I'm an unrecovered knifeoholic between ur excellent reviews and my weakness for blades I'm gonna be down to eating cat food and skipping my heart meds soon to buy another knife. All joshing aside your enthusiasm is contagious and your reviews are impeccable in pertinent info. My Mark 1 is on order and I'm eagarly awaiting it's arrival. Thank You fer another great video!

  • @gwsears Sorry about that my friend :) I find myself in your situation many times :) Appreciate your comment....

  • Just got my Mark 1. I really like it. The handle is very comfortable and the sheath is great.

I bought it after seeing your review. I was going to get the leather handle, but you sold me on the kraton handle. Thanks again.

I also enjoyed the ax sharpening video. I am going to get one of those stones.

  • @mikedifeo Thank you and good for you....appreciate your support.

  • A little tip, the top latch can be buttoned back inside the belt loop, and it does not get in the way! Hope that helps, awesome review!

  • @RENOGUY777 Thanks for the tip....I finally did notice it after playing with it for a while..nice feature....appreciate it.

  • @bushcraftbartons For sure my friend.

  • Elegant does seem to fit somehow. *shrug*

  • ***** Ka-Bar-tons ***** ... mmh - that knife plays in another league than my victorinox, ey ? ( never knew, that santa delivers such dangerous toys ! You must have been really honest last year !? ) HE HE ;o)

  • @moorcamper hehe..Ka-Bartons :)) That is one of your best yet JAN :)

  • Awesome video. Really useful tips. I've been thinking about buying one of these. Your video sealed the deal. I really like 1095 steel. I don't mind stainless for certain uses, but 1095 takes a lot more punishment than stainless. I own a BK2. I took off the coating. I live in CA, not tool cold. I polished the blade and I waxed it with regular car wax. It works great. No rusting problems. I just clean it after I use it and apply a light coat of wax. No messy oils. Might do the same to the Mark1.

  • @mikedifeo Thanks and great tips..

  • really a great video lg outdoor700

  • @outdoor700 Thank you...

  • Thanks for the vid on a really nice knife I have a ka-bar bk2 myself i love it but i had to take the paint off the blade made it baton alot better it splits wood like butter now.

  • @hamerhead2 Good stuff...thanks

  • 5 minutes before the knife came out of the sheath! And then it went back in! I'm DIEING!!

Hehe. A little slow paced, but that's just due to the cold, I'm sure. I've been there. Thanks for giving us a look at your new knife! Neat looking shelter behind you.

  • @SgtThorne Thanks....

  • Ricolaa

  • Great gift buddyO! Very cool knife! Great job showing it too my friend :o)KA-BAR is THE KNIFE ;o)

  • @Ggreenvideos Thank you very much my friend Rich....

  • Looks good Mike! As I get use to the axe more I feel like I will need to find a capable knife like my Scout Recon but a touch bit smaller and lighter than my old SRK.

  • @phr1sk37 I am happy you are getting more use to your axe...Good stuff :)

  • Hi Mike, my good friend, ...wow, very cool knife and gift! Great Review. Well made Ka-Bar and great tips! Have a wonderful weekend, Sepp

  • @Waldhandwerk Danke very much Sepp...

  • This Ka-bar looks very much like the SOG government agent only shorter. I love carton handle and a back field hammer. Thank for the review.

  • @GuyTatt welcome..

  • sweet knife, cant beat the K-BAR

  • I honestly don't find I need to oil my blades if I use them often and sharpen them from time to time (and I'm on west coast, so it's very wet and humid).

Good video. I was checking this knife out a while back and it seems really nice.

  • @MsFiguren I agree with you....Here because of the cold weather I will grease it up once in a while. Thanks

  • @epicblade529 Well I certainly and personaly will never trade a scandi grind for anything...but again that is a personal choice...thanks

  • Excellent, thanks very much for this interessting vid...

  • @paraacord Welcome..

  • Congratulations! I have had my Ka-Bar warthog for four years now with no complaints and I have an DC3 on the back of it:o)

    Rob

  • @Andersbork aha! I thought I was the first one to think about that :) Thanks Rob...

  • nice blade..super shelter...thanks for sharing Mike!

  • @bassfuryvi I thought you would like this one Scott :)

  • Wow Santa was really good to you! Thanks for showing and sharing..........Tom

  • @1620416204 The one who gave this to me is a much better man than santa :) Trust me :) Thanks PPS

  • Thanks for showing this knife, I really like it. I think the ideas you have for the modifications are really good. Great review Mike!

  • @jolietjake1970 Thank you G....Appreciate that.

  • Just a copy of the Cold Steel SRK and the Falkniven A1. Not saying that's bad because it's an excellent design, but that's what it is. Great review Mike, thanks.

  • @Smith28Adventure welcome :)

  • nice looking Knife Mike, though not one for me i like the Mora clipper and my 510

  • @mazadan Thanks Peter :)

  • Very nice blade. Nice curls. Thanks for more neat little tip's.

    Mick.

Ps. Now I know what a Riggamajig is (hope I spelled it right).

  • @packthesack Thanks Mick....Not sure of the spelling but certainly looks right :)

  • ok man that was a great review. Answered all the questions I had for this blade. Thanks for doing the vid.

  • @HalfQ Welcome...thanks for watching...

  • Nice knife, I was however waiting for you mention the back of this kabar knife would not be a good choice for a striker on a firestick though because of the coating.

Another protection for steel I found using table saws originally is car wax...works great for knives and table saws :)

  • @tazmun Thanks for the extra info....appreciate it.

  • 2 retention straps are for jumping out of planes

  • @sanantoniospurs9 Now that sound like the right answer...thank you...appreciate that.

  • That's a nice Christmas gift Mike. I'm like you...there's too many ways to hold it into the sheath for me....LOL. Your ideas for the firesteel and sharpener stone are good ones. Thanks for sharing. Take Care my friend :-))

  • @SurviveN2 Thank you Drag....ya too many ways...you are so right :)

  • Very nIce Mike. Great feather work there. It will serve you well. Proud to own 2 Kabars myself. Thanks for sharing your's. Your shelter is looking mighty fine in the snow.

  • @wawhiker Thank you Bill....did not know you had 2...good stuff :)

  • That's a diversion from you usual style of knife but I sure do like it!

  • @swibo6 It certainly is Jordan if I do say so myself :)

  • Mike you look like you like it, I hope you will enjoy it for a long time. ;-JJD

  • @USMC65UH34D Thank you JJD....

  • Ah you,now im gonna have to spend some money to get one hahaha, thanks for the nice video Mike!

  • @patmaz1 Ooops!! Sorry about that :)

  • Great knife. I have one and love it too. Works great for bushcraft and hunting. Nice heavier option to a Mora. Think the redundancy in straps is to make it jump safe, nit sure. I have an original WWII MK1 and this is a nice usable interpretation of it.

  • @KURGAN44 aha...jump safe...now that makes sense...thank you..

  • Kbar is a good all around knife in 5" and this modern version is an improvement over the traditional. The 7" makes batoning easier and that's good in areas where the trees are big, yet it is too large for general work. It is not a good bushcraft knife by itself, but a light and inexpensive Mora can fill in the gap. And with Kbar's, the price is reasonable.

  • Almost forgot Mike.... As you said in your video on the back of the sheath you wanted to put a DC4 on it. Fallkniven makes an adhesive DC4 that sticks well on kydex....

  • @270Buckhunter It does ? Thanks...I am going to have to check it out :)

  • @bushcraftbartons It's called a DC4T with an abrasive tape like on the back...

  • I like that knife, cool Christmas gift. Thanks for sharing it Mike. I will research it.

  • @Woodenarrows Thanks Jim....I think it comes also with the leather handle and sheath if you dont like the black and kydex sheath.

  • Awesome knife Mike a great Christmas present. I got an Esee RC3 Knife for Christmas.... And I also got a kabar last Christmas.... The Kabar's are great survival knives. I've had my eye on a Kabar Becker for a while..... Great video...... Shea

  • I like my Ka-Bar. thanks for the video

  • @dragonflyhiker Thanks for watching Todd...

  • It is perfect, except for ONE UN-fortunate drawback ... The cutting edge DOES NOT extend all the way to the handle !! A SHOW STOPPER ! So sad, too, because the length is perfect for Texas carry (EDC) but with a survival-camping knife, of LIMITED length ... It is very important to have the entire length of the blade be cutting-edge ... This is to ensure maximum span for impact chores. Love the handle and the sheath, the weight and the length ,,, why could they not have made it PERFECT ? CLOSE!

  • @phrankus2009

The reason is to allow a small area to choke up on the blade, and that small choil is for ease of sharpening, if it want all the way to the handle you'd have trouble sharpening the entire edge.

  • @Rasenkrieger welcome Philip..

  • how sharp are those in comparison to a mora knife?

  • @SurvivingtoThriving Not as sharp but pretty close.

  • Good stuff. I own one as well and love it, been thinking about making a leather sheath for it. Thanks for the vid. -Kurtis

  • @TroutManOutdoors A quick leather sheath option is to use an Air Force survival knife sheath. Fits perfect and you can find them on ebay pretty cheaply.

  • @KURGAN44 alright cool thanks

  • @TroutManOutdoors welcome Kurtis...

  • The thinner part towards the point of the knife is called a false swedge and its used for easy penetration when stabbing something.

  • In order for a sheath to be "jump rated" it has to have at least two ways to secure the knife and at least a plastic or kydex lining so the soldier jumping out of an airplane is sure not to lose it or get injured by his own weapon. Your knife sheath has what would be considered a "jumpable" sheath.

  • @7thtome Thanks....that makes sense...

  • Combat knives have to be extremely secure so they're there when you need 'em, no matter what gymnastics you've had to go through. And the tapered forward grind is so it slips between an enemy's ribs easier. For bushcraft use, though, mod away, McDuff!

  • it's not easy to make frozen feather sticks! Nice knife

  • @spectralmunchkin Thank you...

  • Really cool knife, Mike

    It looks really good.

    Great carving show :-)

I wish you much more joy to this knife.

All the best to you, my friend.

    Greetings Tito

  • @Naturliebe Thank you Tito... :)

  • With all those tie down spots you could make a leather pouch to hold you sharpening stone and firesteel and lash it to the sheath...sounds like a good project! Great Vid!

  • @shannonbtanner Sounds good...thanks

  • very well done mike i have a question i have a mora knife made in sweden about a 4 inch stainless blade what type of stone would i get to keep it sharp reminding that im very new to bushcrafting thanks again god bless for the knowledge you give us from katy texas

  • @366drew Even if you are just starting I will always recommend good old waterstones especially for the scandi gring like mora`s. Take a look at my sharpening video in my playlist on my channel. If you have any questions just ask.

  • solid blade

  • Nice carving demo of that flat grind!

  • @wpkxr99 Thanks...

  • Nice looking knife.

  • @RichTheRidgeHunter Thank you Rich...

  • Great vid Mike. I like Mk1 also, it's a great knife. By the way Brother, what is the make and style of your Jacket? Thanks.

  • @polemicvs Thanks...my jacket is an old hunting jacket I got about 20 years ago. Cant answer you on that one. Everything is washed away so is my memory :)

  • @bushcraftbartons Thanks for answering Mike, brought a good laugh! :)

  • Fine blade Mike, I have a 1940 MK1, and a 1942 MK2 , you will really enjoy the blade.

    JC

  • @SRSS2012 Thank you JC...I was pretty sure you had some of these.
