the reason for 2 locos is simple ... the train needs lots of power because its a superfast train as well as has very large no. of coaches

So why exactly is KK alone being hauled by 2 locos?

because power of a single diesel (except wdp4) is less ... so we need 2 ... also wap4 has a lot of power to haul a long superfast train ... in place of 2 diesels we can have a single wdp4 ...

Gajraj is the name of the Loco WDM-3D.. Don't know the reason for double engine.. may be like tradition they are following it from long time. But Karnataka Express means Double locos that is what comes to my mind....
