I think Ledger was good but what really helped was Nolan's portrayal of the Joker, acting is one thing but the actual realistic, physiological direction that Nolan took it in was outstanding.

Quite the opposite, the academy doesn't like to give out posthumous oscars. It's only even happened once before, also to an Australian actor. Some of the theories people are coming up with are kind of funny. What I think happened was he was either really stressed or confused and took one too many pills. It could be the role, maybe it made him question himself. But I seriously doubt it. Drug problems are pretty common, especially among the stars. He just fell too far.

A few months before the movie premiered in July of the same year. Such a shame. But at least he won the Oscar for his incredible performance.

And yeah it's sad to see the trilogy end, but at the same time wouldn't you want to see a different approach to Batman? Don't get me wrong I love the realistic take on the character. But it would be cool to see a more comics-oriented interpretation. Not necessarily lighter or more kid-friendly, just letting Batman do some of the incredible stuff he does in the comics. Taking on 50 thugs at the same time etc
