Hey everybody. I just started playing this game.... how do you learn magic? I went to the shop at the first town thought I could buy "fire", like in the first final fantasy, and it went to my "items" menu.

@TonyBMan I'd really like to know where people got the idea that there was EVER a DS version of this game. There's not. This game was released in Japan on the famicon, then internationally remade for the playstation, then again for the gameboy advance. Then most recently the 20th anniversary edition was made for the ipod touch and psp... Notice how not once was the Nintendo DS mentioned in that list?

It sucks that Maria can't fight worth a damn, but the way she became my black mage in the game, she ended up dying the LEAST. She was my Most Valuable Player. It's silly that women are always made to be mages in these games, but at least in FF2, magic was probably BETTER than physical attacks since it damaged at least just as much with a 100% hit rate, for one. Without her magic skills, we were *fucked.* Go figure. :P

Max in FFII for GBA, NES, and PSP is 9999. FFII is the first game that introduced it. Also, he made it 255 to make teh battle moar epic.

No, the reason the max health in the NES version is only 255 is because the NES version is 8-bit. 8-bit is a binary thing with every "bit" being a power of 2 (either 0 or 1). So for 8-bits you would have:

2¹+2²+2³+2⁴+2⁵+2⁶+2⁷+2⁸ = 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128 = 255

@rbledsaw It's 255 here because the guy only used a 1 Byte size and format for the cheats he used for those values. With your line of reasoning, you're saying that no value in an NES game can ever exceed 255 or 8 bits, and that's fucking insane. Do you see the max Gold value at 255?

....Did I say anything about Gold? 8-bits were more convenient when the programmers were figuring the stats of the characters. Gold, on the other hand, since i was only ONE variable that occurred for the party whereas every character had 21 individual stats. so they could afford to offer more memory for the Gold value. You just need to take a programming class or two... NES used binary addresses meaning every address had a power of 2. SNES and newer used Hexadecimal allowing powers of 16.

But i'm not sure if they brought the NES 3 over yet. i'm pretty sure they have 2 over here though. they have 2 on the GBA and the PSP over here though. and they have 3 on the DS. the only way i know of getting the original 3, besides going to japan, is by downloading an NES emulator, and getting the FF3 ROM. if you need to know how to get those, just message me back.

You're in for a lot of learning, because this is extremely typical to japanese RPGs, and the idea that a woman can do things as good as men, or the other way around is flawed... we are each built with our own strengths and weaknesses... and MOST women are not strong enough upper body wise to fight "as good" as men.
