  • I actually thought the voice was saying "Okay, scat!" Because the character would then leave. :D

  • Desu doesn't really mean something specifically. It's a word that ends a sentence that has been derived from another verb and yadda yadda. So think of desu as more of a way to end a sentence rather than a form of "is" or another verb.

Ok desu ka? Would most literally translate to "Is it ok?" The specific subject is ambiguous but in context we can see they are talking about "this" in reference to the collection of names you put in so it has the meaning of "Is this ok?" or "Is all of this ok?"

  • v=6XzoOK2GZF8

  • That was terrible.

  • @Frohstaruus WHAT?!

  • @electricmastro I'm saying this isn't a very pleasant song to listen to.

  • @Frohstaruus Believe me, there are some songs that are unpleasant for me on this list, i'm actually watching from #1-all the way, and i'mn up to the 400's, personally, I like wacky songs like this, i'm not a fan of hardcore rock, or depressing songs though.

  • Wow, am I the only one who heard "Okay sa" as in "okay sir"? I always thought that's what it was saying.

Anyway, I spent SO MUCH time on this screen thinking of names for everyone (and every thing). I still haven't gone back and played this again after my first time. I expected it to be out on the virtual console by now, but I've lost all hope that anyone actually cares about anything Earthbound/Mother in America anymore. No Mother 3, and no Earthbound on VC. I don't know what to do.

  • holy crap I've been pronouncing it "upiska" for years

thanks for the people who know Japanese!!!!!!!!

  • It's monthy python's flying circus!

  • No way out man Asian women lushfmlk.info

  • It was a great idea to keep the 'OK desu ka" intact. It confused many an American.

I used to process the voice as saying "Ok, Scott." As to who Scott is, I am clueless.

  • OK desu OK desu OK OK desu OK desu OK desu OK

  • @MadManX429 It's actually shigesato Itoi's (The creator of the game) voice which was secretly recorded. :D Ok desu ka?

  • @1jim3bob Isn't desu meaning "what"?

  • @Dimunic Desu means alot of things.

  • @1jim3bob mk that's pretty weird.. Kinda useless too.

  • Toe Jam and Earl have a problem with this music and box art

  • @charger619c Wha, ha, ha! Damn, your right. I never thought about it...

  • Now i have PK Spain :D

  • OK desu ka... desu is the word for "is" and ka is the ending to sentence which is a question. So OK desu ka is literally.... "OK is?".. less literally I'd think it means "It's!?"

  • @geophyzix2010 Well, that´s not quite right. In Japanese the word "desu" is a particle commonly used at the end of sentences to indicate the conclusion of your affirmative. But you are right about the "ka", so the sentence "OK desu ka" literally means "OK?", just that.

  • Man playing this game back in 95 was such a trip. So different from FF2 & 3 and fun as hell.

  • Ugeska

  • I was weirded out by this song when I first heard it. Then, I got used to it and liked it. I researched all of Giygas and knew everything about him and

Pokey b4 starting this game. Well, I like it, but I'm stuck in what to do in Onett.

  • Yes, Mr. Itoi. It IS ok. Thank you sir.

Must learn how to play this on the bass.

  • even if it was ripped from liberty bell march its 1 bassass theme :p

  • Badass* lmao I can't spell today. <:o

  • OPISKA

  • No. It's supposed to say "OK desu ka?"

  • @NeoSaturos123 holy crap ok didnt know that thanks!! i always say opiska freaks out my bro then we laugh

  • Man I forgot how great this song is! I remember hanging around at this screen just to listen to its funkiness!

  • I loved the humour in Earthbound. The environment and atmosphere were similar to the Simpsons. I loved the incompetent authority figures like Strong and Onett's mayor. The dialogue was amazing as well. Shame my first playthrough was at 19-years-old in 2009.

  • Naming all the Characters ^_^

  • This gives me a 1994 flashback HARDCORE

  • 1:05 = win

  • The beginning of this is absolutely crazy!

  • Did I hear "Liberty bell march" at the begining of this?

  • Why yes you did XD At different speeds, I would add

  • I didn't notice until you pointed that out, but you're right! :o I just thought it was the random noise of a crowd of people.

  • I guess they wanted something completely different.

  • @D8W2P4 Lol, yeah, but It goes to fast.

  • @D8W2P4 No, you heard part of the opening theme to Monty Python's Flying Circus.

  • @RichardHeuleIII Monty Python's theme is the Liberty bell march.

  • @D8W2P4

Well, I feel like an idiot now. xD

  • @RichardHeuleIII Ah it's ok,most people don't know that is what the tunes name is or came from.

  • Lol, funky song >:O

  • VGKing is a Troll

  • Next best VGM for earthbound needs to be Twoson.

  • Ok desu ka?

  • I would love to get my hands on that players guide just for shits and giggles. The SNES players guides were entertaining within themselves...

  • Coolest but lamest part is when you're done finishing naming everybody and then BPUWAHO! WAHO! WAHO! WAHO! *earth2* *earth2*

I missed this song after that. That was the low.

  • You are a bad person. Also, it's OK desu ka.

  • I hear this when I fill out any long paperwork form from Taxes to Course registration.

  • LMFAO!!!

  • if anyone has the complete earthbound OST, PLEASE post it in its entirety...

lots of ppl have a track here and there, but never the whole thing...i would be eternally grateful

  • Comment removed

  • This song was so amazing. I remember I would sit and listen. Didn;t care about naming my character.

  • You know, I never sat down and listened to this before.

  • Nearly everytime a new song was introduced in EB, I would just chill on the screen, doing nothing but listening to the song. Awesome stuff.

  • Two other good Earthbound songs are "Because I Love You," and "Good Friends, Bad Friends." Maybe they'll come along the list someday.

  • I love how they included that sample from Monty Python in the song. It always made it so memorable for me.

  • That was a different vgm, neat though. Too bad I know nothing about the game...

  • I prefer the one from MOTHER 3.

  • Your just mad because like....You cannot grasp the trueform of this song,..Amazing song.

  • No, I never said hate this song. It's awesome! I just prefer the one in M3...

  • I've been listening to this song a good amount today and i just saw that you posted it yourself. You have to know exactly what I'm thinking or something. :P

  • That's Itoi's voice saying "OK desu ka", which means something like "OK got it" after every time you confirm your choice.

  • ok desu ka means something like is it ok?

    i take japanese lol

  • I love japanese to me it's fun to learn

  • @SupraDarky Cool, Itoi actually "talks" to you!

  • @SupraDarky Is Bein' Friends and the New Age Retro Hippie Battle song on your list?

  • @SupraDarky He said "OK 'ssuka.

  • @SupraDarky

I know it doesnt really matter, but...

ok desuka means 'you got it?'

  • Ohpiska!

  • reminds me of toejam and earl

  • really good song

  • Ha ha, yeah, this is a pretty cool theme.

    Especially from 1:01 - 1:31

  • 1:01 is epic.

Well every second of the Mother games are epic.

  • If you listen closely at around 0:02, you can hear a sample from the theme of "Monty Python's Flying Circus".

  • Wow!

  • Wow, that is amazing! Do you know why it is in this song then?

  • You don't think that the rest of earthbound is weird?

  • I meant "in general", not "compared to everything else from the game." Hell, one of your first party members is a future bee who's more powerful than you'll ever be.

  • You asswipe, Earthbound IS a weird game! Not in a bad way, its got humor thats so clunky & weird, that it makes the game awesome. Your just mad cuz like....you cannot grasp the trueform of Giygas's Attack. :)

  • I didn't say weird bad, but the game itself is pretty bad. I could go in-depth as to why, but you called me an asswipe, indicating that it would be more worthwhile to wipe my ass than to argue with you. And who said I was mad?

  • Or you could just give reasons why you think it is in fact a bad game..if you even have any..

  • This game was made as a parody of RPGs. Wikipedia it out.

  • Tsk tsk tsk VGKing! Earthbound is an amazing game, just like Mother 3. No need to discuss this further though, it's obviously just a matter of opinion. I'm also probably saving you from getting flamed to oblivion, which is something I'd rather avoid in here. :P

  • ......I'll admit that the two games were very similar :P.

  • @SupraDarky I like and dislike mother 3. I'm much more fascinated with earthbound, however. But, the big drawback is the sometimes slow battle system, but it's also very forgiving :)

That and I just love the main protagonist, Ness.

  • He should kill himself. . . because he has bad taste?

  • Yea my biggest gripe with it though was lack of direction. You had to guess at a lot of shit

  • @kelzk

Are you implying that Earthbound had less direction than most RPGs and exploring games at the time?

If you really did pay attention, you would see that most of the time, the game practically tells you where to go! There was even the hint man who would give hints on where to go next! You almost never had to guess, except for that time where you have to use the Pak of Gum to lower the rope...

  • You think you had to guess in THIS game?

    Try Earthbound Zero.

  • I did not I had the hand guide with the best written walk through : D

  • I tried to go through that game without the walkthrough the first time.

I think it's almost near impossible to finish that way. I went through the entire Earthbound game without referral to a walkthrough once.

  • yeah my first run i didnt use walkthrough, i had it when i bought the game though manual came scented scratch thingys

    hehe

  • @GBelair love the smelly things remeber the diamond dog that one was the worse lol

  • @PEREYDARAY Yeah it smelled pretty power ful but it just made u feel closer to the game imo

  • @GBelair oh totally agree before i played the game we smelled it and were sold

  • @Nintendavin Yeah, I'm trying that as well. Right now I'm stuck in Onett not knowing what to do. I blew all my $, so now I only have $15, and because I died once by running into one of those "sharks".

  • @Snakemast345 the only problem with this game is that you need to power level in the beginning, just kill some crows and snakes till you can defeat the sharks, ps get the cheap bracelet, it helps a lot.

  • @XTHEDARKMAGEX Yeah, now I actually killed off a few and turned level 6. I had to look up a staregy guide so I know what I was doing, so I failed the game at not looking at any cheats so far. Most RPG's I get very easily, but this one is differnt, and because of that makes it a little more fun.

  • VGKing your opinion is only yours and it dosent affect anbody else but you. you are one of the few that think this great, awesome game, is bad. all the reasons you gave are pretty much just opinions. your thoughts are completly separeted from the game and it dosent affect the fact the this is an awesome game, it dosent matter if you think it is good or bad the game will continue to be awesome even after you die

  • Hey, you're presenting your opinions as facts, too.

I think it's an awesome game, though.

  • well what i was saying is that there are games that have all the nesesary requierments for them to be awesome, be it sweet programing, visuals and enviroments, with a memorable soundtrack, that game would still be good even if someone didnt liked it. and say it is a bad game. say for example that i didnt like resident evil 4, and say it is bad, but we all know that it is an awesome game, so it will continue to be awesome with or without my opinion.

  • i like it

  • So Eb gets a 6th selection, sweet. Looks like Crono got its work cut out for it. The synthesizer part reminds me of Steve Winwood. :) Anyways, yeah a new series...perhaps featuring a certain NES ninja? ;)

  • Going for 500 I see. Interesting song. How about some songs from a series you haven't posted yet?

  • Going by your name, I assume youre a fan of A Boy & his Blob? What a cool game that was with an underrated song as well. 2 bad peeps found a way to beat the game in like 10 minutes or less. lol

  • No. It was incidental when I just couldn't think of a username. You're the second person who guessed it was a reference to the game though haha. I wouldn't mind Supra to through in some more modern tracks.

  • You picked a favourite of mine!

That part at 1:01 gives me a great nostalgic feeling.

  • Man, when it comes to EB, you make great selections every time.

  • Nice Pick ^_^

  • Earthbound is the best game I ever played.

  • New Game, New Playlist! :P I just want to thank you all for the quality comments on the last video, it actually peaked at #1 Most Discussed gaming video in Canada, and in the top 10 Worlwide gaming! Awesome. :) Now back to daily updates!
