  • The Rosecrucian order always regarded this song as a great danger-as it revealed their highest secret:"First there is a mountain then there is no mountain......."hehe

  • first there is a dohnut, then there is no dohnut, then there is

  • serious people, very serious

  • 1:05 He turns into Popeye.

  • funny they say bob dylan clone but when he started writing he didn't know who bob dylan was, not until Gypsy Dave sent him a Dylan album noting that they had a similar style

  • That song realy spoke to me when I first heard it. I got it. I still get it.

  • 2:33 "again" just when you think its all over haha!

    What a legend

  • I find it rather amusing how people make fun of the lyrics but they do not understand them.

    They actually are quite profound.

  • "Is there a mountain or not"? Make your mind up. Lol.

  • It made more sense in 1967 didn't it???

  • First there is a dimwit then there is no dimwit thankgoodnes he's gone.

I have never seen such a bored audience in all my born days. How much did they pay the audience to sit through that. or were they high on drugs.

  • 0:52

  • "First there is a problem" ha ha

Donovan, If I was there I would have sung along with you, even if no one else did!

  • I like the part about the mountain.

  • First there is a Billion Dollar Baby, then there is no Baby, then there is.

Especially liked his Cosmic Wheels album.

  • oh..and this song is about liposuction....or Mount St. Helen.

Oh wow...I just noticed...this is the first "Pop-Up" video, what with the running commentary on the screen...lol.

  • I remember seeing the 1967 documentary about Bob Dylan called "Don't Look Back" and it was about his 1966 London Tour, and Donovan was an up and coming folkie who happened to get into a couple of scenes with Dylan during the filming and Dylan completely ignored Donovan...it was kinda embarrasing, but Bob could humiliate anyone back then.

  • @rowdymax1 to be fair, donovan was tripping balls on acid and probably wanted to be ignored partially, the fact those two chilled is awesome.. the glass breaking part was hilarious

  • Google "Donovan Unofficial"

    What a fantastic site!

  • haha, i wish guys still dressed like that today.

  • Here it is one time, friends. The song's about stages of enlightenment. The zero stage is "first there is a mountain." The next stage is acquiring the awareness that the mountain doesn't exist. In the last stage the mountain returns ("then there is"). It's existence is affirmed with the awareness that it is no more real than "you" and "I" are (but no less real either). Donovan has taken an old Zen saying and set it to music.

  • if these limeys got any more reserved they would look like they were asleep! all you pinheads that denegrate donovan can kiss my ass... rfw

  • what is it actually about?

  • I like some of his songs, but this one makes me want to punch him in the face!!!

  • what is that song even about?

  • impermanence.

  • A mountain.

  • Thank God the Allman Bros. decided to play this as an instrumental.......

  • Is that an audience or a painting? Ron

  • Is that a shirt or a pyjama top?

  • hahahahaha....wtf is this?

  • I rd Singalong with donavan for sure

  • It's just one of the those songs that's meant to be sung with a lot of people, just having a good time.

  • First there is a doobie, then there is no doobie, and there, uh....

Next there is a pizza, then there is no pizza and there...zzzzz.

  • lol

  • @seandublinxxxx AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

  • Um er...

  • Haha!! stupid audience! Sing along, didn't Donovan ask ye tae sing along?! :D I should've been there

  • form is emptiness

    emptiness also is form

  • ...wow. I have no idea why this song is so much fun. Honestly, it should be terrible. But ... but it ISN'T. You can't NOT like this song if you watch this video. Look at how much fun he's having! You have to love it!

  • Ah, the old Glesca folksie crapfest

    seldom equalled.

  • I love this song...

and Im jealous of that shirt, I want it.

  • i love this ; its off its tits

  • A song writers point of view? I'm sure you're very successful, thank god there are big well known song writers like you to critique Donovan. Songs don't have to make sense, some of the best songs written are non sensacle. I am the walrus(beatles), go ask alice (jefferson airplane), peace frog (doors),

  • fucking A

  • I like it, the studio version is better but it's just a fun song. Lots of good songs are stupid.

  • like In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

  • its great
