@muellersfrau If you base your opinion on a movie about a whole nation, you are simply an IDIOT, but to actually write that down... you are a jerk. (an offended Hungarian woman).
I live in country where she lived.if you don´t know where it is - it´s Slovakia - a hearth of Europe. I´m thinking about one funny thing. There are lot of films in USA connected with vampires, but they don´t know anything about it. In our country there were huge vampire´s locations..mostly in the east of Slovakia. People burried people with wooden stake in their hearths, use a garlic and others. It´s funny, when I´m reading your comments -full of disgust ...I think...we got used on it. :)
well people, this is a movie mainly focused on Erszebet. So it will include the events in history as well that took place in that time. that doesnt mean its about those events. its about elizabeth. come on, its just a movie people. every producer/director makes their movie how they want it. theyre not trying to make a movie that you personally want. and maybe one day we will get a bathory film that is much more of what we would like to see. doesnt make this a bad film
Also, the countess was not caught by her cousin but a past love-interest, Count Thurzo, as well as some of her relatives by marriage. She tortures her victims slowly, never meaning to kill them outright; that is why her crimes were all the more atrocious. As for the rumors of her return so many years after her acclaimed death, I don't believe them. Assuming ghosts do exist, I highly doubt that they can cause physical harm to the living. You're buying into propaganda.
I have read a book about her, and yes, she was a monster, and since that this is a movie, some things had to be changed. However, that doesn't mean producers shouldn't make movies about bad heroes. Even hitler (who was much, much more evil) is portrayed in a lot of movies, so why we can't have a movie about a noblewoman who was a bit too crazy?
@NenadlPopovic I thought we had a lot of movies about noble women who were crazy already. The movie doesn't look like it will show her as scary as she really was though
@NenadlPopovic: I don't believe she's murdered even one single girl. It's by far more likely that it was a conspiracy of jaelous 'noble' men. But let's imagine she actually did torture 650 young girls to death in the most sadistic ways possible.. I don't think you can be more evil than that.
What´s the point of making a big budget production and then not bother having a proper publicity campaign for it?? This is the first time I hear about this movie.
She never bathed in blood, murdered ? Of curse as the 16th century nobility, she isnt Crazy was a woman very intelligent if she was arrested was by a plot, arent 600 victims
@NiniveQury You are correct, she was very intelligent. She is suspected of having a genius intelligence and a photographic memory. Nobility allowed her to get very mean to young girls in the area. She was responsible for the torture and killing of many young girls. Of course, we wouldn't want the movie only showing her bad points right? (sarcasm). They practically show her as the victim. However her sisters were killed when she was just a child. No excuse for torturing young girls.
Total distortion, she was a rotten old hag who killed little fat girls and bathed in their blood and it didn't make her look younger. She shrivelled up and died in exile. Basta.
@FLASH2394 (typ 'most evil woman in hystory in the youtube search engine and enjoy)
The movie is realy not accurate. If she bathed in blood is not really confirmed. But she did have an obsession with blood. And she at the girls flesh and made her victims eat there own flesh. Discovery Channel never lies :D.
The movie should have had a fictional name. Now it is just a lie!
@mullewt the girl in hostel two who sits naked in the bath and slashes the girl with a sickle is pritty mch bathory :D so in a way u got what u wanted ;p
Vampires, Sadism, Bathing in Blood...that is what "people" of today like watching from their comfortable anglo-saxon Seedless Grape World. How about those REAL PEOPLE back in 1500, 1600 who had to defend their land from invading enemy?Whithout the life long efforts of their many generations Europe would have been part of the Osman turk Empire? Know anything about them?
@9ludverc They would have been better off amongst the turks. A lot of them were protectorates of the Ottoman Muslim empire too, such as France. It seems you dont really know much of your history
@UmmKhilafah I have then a question for you Clever One; where did the north-westward expansion of the Ottoman Turk Empire make a halt in the 15-16th centuries so that the rest of Europe literally stayed protected? A vast amount of Hungarian blood was shed...and not because of poor Erzsébet - victim of Habsburg intrigues.
@9ludverc Very true. I am one of those people who like to watch vampires. Not sure about sadism though. lol But I'm also one of those who know about the other things you said. I wonder how many people check out these videos and don't even know the half of it? I mean, Ive seen some comments on this video in other links that say "Thumbs up if you came here because you saw boobs". Come on!
@9ludverc A lot of people don't know the true history of Erszebet or that this was even part of a true story, or anything about the 16th and 17th centuries. or even before that or the 18th & 19th centuries on top of that! lol I agree with your comment whole-heartedly
@9ludverc You do know this is based on a true story right? Elizabeth Bathory (Erzebet Bathory in Hungarian) was a countess of Hungarian nobility who would kill and bathe in virgins blood to retain her youth.. until she was finally captured that is, at least that's how the story goes.. For all we know, she was just some sadistic psycho.. I guess the movie wanted to tie her story in with the other troubles of the time period.. Regardless, she was a "real" person, horrible, but real..
just by watching the trailer one might easily assume she was a vampire because she is cleverly presented in all those blood scenes!but the film does her justice :)
This film looks like it could be good. I want to see it and I know it's not going to be completely historically accurate..but Bathory hooking up with Caravaggio?
@Franz40 Yes I bought it in October! Its Incredible how this film is well made, everything is just perfect, actors, costume, slovak accent, shooting places and everything.... I was blown away when I say this movie!!!
@brian3d14 All the people in the film were Hungarian Historic figures, and all the places were in Hungary at the time, Slovakia first appeared some 400 years later on the map of Europe. Why should the actors speak with a Slovac accent then?! They feel a need to create History for themselves and the rich Hungarian history comes handy to expropriate. Those who don't know a lot of the past of Middle Europe can easily be fooled by manipulation...
@Sheepersable Im not saying she was right but alot if not all nobel men raped and killed servants and got away with it back then bc that was the norm. And yes the Bathorys had a history of mental illness and lesbianism which made it easier to convict her, but they really just wanted her money.
@Sheepersable She was placed under house arrest and she served two years in her own bedroom before killing herself. She was not brought to court. There were alot of things wrong with her trial. She was accused and convicted without her knowledge and all the people that came forth as witnesses were commoners & it was illegal back then for commoner to testify against nobels. They spead up the whole process bc they didnt want her to get away. She was denied a fair trial.
@Sheepersable Everything about this woman was offensive to men around her so what did they do, they turned her into a legend to show women as vanity obsessed fools who shouldnt have power bc they'll misuse it. I mean common if she really did all they said she would have been executed or thrown in jail instead of just being dispossed of all her assets. She was a strong woman that made envious enemies. That is what she is guilty of. The history books can lie, u need to read between the lines.
@Sheepersable If u wanna look at the facts, she was the richest woman in Hungary owning 1/3 of the country, the King couldnt pay back the money she lent him, her husbands army was undefeated, she managed her wealth on her own, she was smart and owned a hospital, she was beautiful & popular, and she was a protestant in a time when the Catholic church ruled most of the world. Sure she probably killed servants but she was a noble in the 1500s & it was perfectly within her rights to do so.
This movie is so disgustingly inaccurate. It isn't even worth watching. Why they would try to make this woman into a misunderstood heroine is beyond me.
This is by far the best Ersebet Bathory movie I've ever seen! It stays true to historical facts and is definately the most believable. I dont think she was a crazed killer or vampire that was obsessed with beauty. She was just a wealthy beautiful woman that aged well and bc neither were common back then she aquired alot of enemies. Women empowerment all the way! lol
it looks like a nice movie, but it seems that they try to make her into a hero, but she wasnt, she was evil, I love history like this though but you cant make the evil people heros, I'm not ganna say hitler was hero so there. She resembled Vlad III the Impaler who also bathed in blood from his victoms, though he was truely evil, but a great leader, he is the original count dracula if you dont konw your history, his tail is far more interesting i think, but Elizabeth was truely unique.
PERSONALLY I HAVE KNOWN THE HISTORY OF COUNTESS AND I FOUND IT QUITE REMARKABLE AS A MOVIE THAT THEY DIDN'T TURN HER IN THE BAD DRACULA STORY IT COULD HAVE BEEN ALL A CONSPIRACY AGAINST HER LIKE THEY DESCRIBE IN THE 2008 MOVIE, WHAT SO EVER I LOVE THE MOVIE AND THE COUNTESS HISTORY :) .............
But seriously, How could we really know, Who she was ? and what she did? We weren't there in 1611... Are you believing all you read in the History books? Do you really believe that Oswald killed JFK loll??? So It's like that how can we really know ??? :P So think again before commenting please... ;) I don't say that i endorses everything in this film but bottom line I love this Movie, it's Great!!!
My two favortie types of movies are Historical Drama's and Slaher Killer types...Elizabeth, Countess of Bathory was the most sadistic, evil woman in history..I honestly HOPE they show the gruesome killings she did in this movie..
Bathory is not a true story about Erzsebet Nadasdy...makes her victim and saintess. But she was mad and she commited the murders, not Thurzo. Only true is that the number of dead people was overstated because of tantalization of the witnesses
Maybe I m not watched the movie well, but I did not understand. Is Bathory really to blame for everything for which she was accused? Is it possible that it was a setup Thurzó to come to her property and wealth? Or, if she is guilty, perhaps under the influence of black magic, which is a witch enchanted her, did all these horrors?
I don't know. I'm not diggin the soft tone look of the picture. Makes the darkness and macabre aspect of Elizabeth Bathory's story seem tamed. I would've given the picture more of a harder, sharper edge look to it, made it more darker, expose the madness, have it be a little gruesome than what i saw in the trailer. When i see the soft tone look of the film it makes me think of the film The Other Boleyn Girl. That kind of look doesn't seem to fit with the story of the Countess Dracula herself.

@amateurshooter moron...read the book first. While you're at it, read into the history of the times. Macabre and Dracula my ass...
