57's are ok for acoustic guitars, but it shouldn't be the first choice for anyone. throw up a condenser mic by the 12th fret and another one at the bridge would be ideal to get a full, clear, airy sound. 57's add a lot of color and they're better off in front of a cabinet or on drums.

Good 'ole SM57 on the acoustic. I love that sound. Forget all those expensive tube mics. A 57 for $99 will give you that warm acoustic sound like all those classic 70's records :)

@MrTheIves as much as I agree with you, I'm pretty sure that he meant it from a material standpoint as in most acoustics don't have pickups or electronic parts etc.. I don't think he was too worried about going into the craftsmanship or cultural importance of an acoustic guitar in a short video about recording.
