  • It blows my mind at how many people have their own grass strip, most not even on the chart.

  • The most fun you can have with your clothes on.

  • AND I LOVE AMERICA also for her big AIR- CULTURE. Nobody can understand how much I dream my country with nice little airports for making the people happy to fly instead of living in this messy-italian way where you can not even decide nothing because we are full of stupid laws and stuff like this... FOR EXAMPLE: owners of small aircraft (ike me) are not free to build a paved runway but we must taking off and landing from the grass... it makes no sense! I wonder why the policy had decided so!

  • I AM SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH, BUT:

I can only say that once a person is able to pilot, the concentration goes so such high that you and the machine become - automatically - one only thing! Panorama and colours all around are something like a frame. And this frame rapresents the reward for your natural big concentration (something that -unfortunely-the people whom are not be able to fly will never see). For that reason I thank my father for all the rest of my life, because he teached me to fly.

  • Lol never knew the cub was stick controlled XD

  • haha i fly the supercub next week, on my way gettin a tail wheel endorsement :) can't wait haha

  • awsome

  • If i sweat when i drive, id piss myself if i flew lol :D

  • Thanks for the info! That's very interesting! Flying IS way more fun than driving ESPECIALLY in a cub!!

  • If converted, what is the mileage of a cub in mpg?

  • @akloetzel They rate airplanes by gallons per hour or GPH because air speed and ground speed may not be the same. If you have a tail wind of 20 MPH and an air speed of 70 MPH ground speed would be 90 MPH. If you burn 4 GPH you would get about 23 MPG but if you had a head wind 20 MPG, now if are only getting about 13MPG. But it's still more fun than driving no matter what the mileage.

  • @m3fordcord Don't forget to consider the fact that flying in straight lines is almost always gonna be a shorter distance than driving on the surface.

  • what is the cruising alt and speed of a cub?

  • @Insanity714 Well they refer to flying the cub as "low and slow". We normally fly at 70MPH and about a 1000 ft agl or less.

  • @m3fordcord that's all you really need. about an hour north to the in-laws, which i had one of these babies to fly up there every time. i might need a super cub tho, my big butt is probly past the cubs eight limit lol.

  • yeah I like "low and slow" flying. Is in USA any low level limit? There, in Czech Republic, is minimum flight level 500ft agl, I can't fly lower except takeoff and landing.

  • @Jelen226 The minimum altitude over congested areas(city or town) is 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a 2,000-foot horizontal radius of the aircraft. Elsewhere, it’s 500 feet above the surface—except over open water or sparsely populated areas, where you must remain at least 500 feet from any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure.

  • @m3fordcord thanks for reply. It's better, than here :-) by the way, J3 Cub is one of most beautiful aircrafts for me. I wish I can take a ride in one of theese birds someday.

  • Very nice vid and awesome to see from the cockpit of an real Cub. I'm into model air craft (RC) and busy building a 1/4 scale of the J3 Cub. Very nice touch and go. Keep up the cool stick time:-)

  • nice job!!!! I'm just starting to get more serious about learning to fly, and I'm gonna learn in an old tail dragger too........ Great first touch and go!!!!!!!! I'm thrilled for you.

  • the piper looks like a fun plane to fly

  • @stuya9 Oh yes it is, low and slow.

  • What are you using to record your video and audio?

  • @stevethepilot I have a video about that, just look at my list and you'll find it. Very easy to do.

  • Great video, I think you may have fixed my landing(controled crash!) problem!

  • wat airport is this ?. saludos amigo

  • @locopoko001 DLZ or Delaware Ohio

  • I'm 13 and learning to fly in the Cub. I fly in the backseat.

  • I love the J-3! I have my PPL, but I'm dying to find someone who will teach me the way of the Cub!! Please tell me, what did you use to record your voice and video? I have a nice Canon camera, but there seems to be no way to get my voice to carry over the sound of the engine! :P

  • @DauntlessDriver I have a video that shows how I do it. Just look at all my stuff on youtube and you'll see it.

  • @m3fordcord Thanks m3! Also, I forgot to ask, why do you count down when you're on the takeoff roll?? I fly nose-wheel aircraft and we just hit Vr and rotate at that airspeed...

  • @DauntlessDriver You give it full throttle and count 5 by then you have enough speed to push the stick forward and pick the tail up. After that the speed will pickup faster and at 50-55 it will fly right off the runway.

  • great vid! id love to fly in or even fly a cub! to just get that felling again! its the correct way to get high! and not on gas feums! lol

  • Why doesn't that cub have the fuel bobber on the cowling?

  • @matttee13

well advacments and personal feelings during a resto can change that!

  • @matttee13 I think it is one of the "newer" piper cubs.

  • I just took my first taildragger lesson and I sat in front. Super Cruiser 100hp. Great Great flying plane

  • just beast! can't wait to start my training over the summer

  • I loved my experience with the J3, Great flight but you were suppose to be in the back seat.

  • You don't fly from the back till you have it somewant mastered or to solo.

  • Actually you fly in the back seat from the get go so that when you solo you have the same sight picture. I know the view stinks with your instructor in the way but that's just the way it is.

  • Very nice, just what flying's all about!

  • man i love this plane! wish mine was flying!!!!

  • How was your flight?

  • Always great in the J3.

  • amazing video. i wanna fly a cub someday but i guess i need to finish hs first and learn how to fly. but beautiful countryside.

  • Having the door down and the widow up makes for a great view.

  • hey remember to pedal them rudders like your riding a bike ok trust me but great flying otherwise

  • I call it the rudder dance.

  • does that plane respond quickly?

  • Yep, it flys nice.

  • What kind of camera were you using to film this?

  • I made a YouTube video on this. Look at all my videos and you will find it.

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Just to let u no i like ur vids alot and im really wnating to get my license but im 13 and have no idea how to progress with getting it..... keep up the vids like them alot

  • im just like you but 11 but i dont want to do this to show off it jsut looks so fun i love to fly!

  • nice, was the engine idling when you flared?

  • Yes, just cut the power, get it close and flare.

  • Thanks for the vid !

  • I'm 15 and learning to fly in a pa-18, so much fun

  • I'd love a Cub because it's nice and slow, and allows you to sight-see and still stick around the area.

  • That looks awesome, you got to love the cub

  • how did u get the com on the video?

  • If you look at all my videos, I have one that shows the setup I use.

  • I'm learning to fly a brazilian version of the J3 for my PPL, it feels great, nice vid!

  • Thanks It's a lot of fun isn't it?

  • Saaaaweeet landing. Ya gotta feel good about that one. As to cheap flying look at the Pietenpol for grass roots affordable low and slow.. Thanks for posting an enjoyable winter buster video.

  • i didn't hear any communications on the ctaf.

  • The Cub doesn't have a radio nor is one required. The Cub doesn't even have a electrical system or lights. All we have is a little self contained intercom. Common traffic advisory frequency would be alot safer. With the Cub, we just stay clear of airspace that require the use of a radio.

  • yeh cub i soloed on my 16th birth in one

  • man i wish i had one of this but to expensive for a kid like me i cant believe they are worth so much in 1940's it was 3,000 at the most...and yes i know the money value has changed, i am trying to find planes between 5-10 gran thats all i can afforrd for now

  • I bet you could get a Cessna 150 for 10 grand but that is just the begining. Hanger rent, fuel, insurance and everthing else makes the 10 grand the cheap part.

  • the planes not tha bad part the instruments are gasp

  • great video, i'm not sure if the cam was on your head or your instructor's, but a quick reminder, make sure you check for other planes all the time! I didn't see much scanning for other aircraft. very important when you're flying at those altitudes to check for other planes constantly, especially in that lighting. great fun video though, thanks!

  • The cam was on my head. I do keep a good lookout. If I scan with my head more and not my eyes, the video would make you seasick LOL. Yesterday we were flying the pattern in the cub and I noticed some guy coming streight in from about three miles out.(bigshots don't have to fly the pattern I guess) We had just turned base and I decided to cut it off, he came right on in and landed. I don't think he saw us at all.

  • I used to work at the farm with the grass strip. And live on the road below it!!!!

  • The guy invited me to stop in but I can't remember his name, do you?

  • Mr. Boyers His wife Pam runs the barn..

  • He also has a web site about his planes but can't find it or his email. Oh well, I guess we'll just land there one day and see if he's home.

  • Nice:D
